About this property
A great family property! Not suitable for construction crews.
Take in views of towering mountains, have breakfast on the patio, hike to a geyser, or cozy up by the sandstone fireplace in this mid-century modern home. Family friendly. Convenient to gas, groceries & nature. 79 miles to Jackson.
The main floor has a master bedroom with a queen bed and en suite bath (shower), a second bedroom with a queen bed, a third bedroom with two twin beds, a main bath with tub/shower, a half bath, living room, fireplace, kitchen, and dining room, and laundry room. The living room has spectacular mountain views, while the kitchen has sweeping views of the valley. A patio off the dining room with a table, benches, and plenty of additional seating is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The basement has a family room with ping pong, sofas for lounging and reading, a play area for the kids, and a fourth bedroom with a queen bed.
This year we updated the house with all new mattresses and bedding for every bed, new linens, and new bedroom carpet. The main bath has new tile and the charming original tile in all bathrooms was restored.
The backyard has large portable outdoor grill and fire pit, perfect for roasting marshmallows. Croquet and bacci ball sets also.
The kitchen has a stove, double oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, blender, crockpot, electric frying pan, waffle iron, cutting boards, plates, dishes, flatware, glasses, pots, pans, basic cooking utensils.
Bathroom appliances two brush-type curling irons and one hair dryer.
Linens are provided.
Guests love the piano in the living room.
Ping pong table, various board games, toys in the basement.
Things to Do in Star Valley:
Hike to the world's largest cold water geyser. This beautiful waterfall turns on and off every few minutes. This is close, beautiful and easy hike.
Golf on the beautiful golf course designed by Johnny Miller on the highway south of Afton.
There is great fishing in Star Valley! There are sporting goods stores on Main Street that can sell you a license and tell you where the fish are biting and what kind of flies or bait to use.
Mountain biking, tubing on the Salt River, and kayaking are popular.
National Forest picnic sites are available up Swift Creek Canyon and at Allred Flat. Swift Creek Park in town also has picnic facilities.
The mountain pass at the south end of the valley has great hiking in the summer and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing trails in the winter. You can even get a permit to cut your own Christmas tree in the National Forest on top of the mountain pass.
Great skiing just 70 miles north in Jackson.
Between Afton and Jackson, the Snake River provides world-class rapids for rafting or canoeing.
Yellowstone National Park is 125 miles north. Star Valley makes a great base for exploring the park away from the crowds.
There are elk and bird refuges 30 miles north in Alpine.
Parks and playgrounds within walking distance from the house.
Be sure to check out the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce website before you come. Wonderful pictures and the latest information on activities.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Cheney

I grew up in this beautiful home, and we were thrilled to be able to purchase it from the family trust after our parents passed away. We love spending time here with our family whenever we can get away.
Why they chose this property
My parents, a pharmacist and a nurse, built this beautiful home in 1960. It has many original and charming features, including a cozy fireplace and built-in cabinetry in each room. Our family has made cherished memories here and we know your family will too!
What makes this property unique
This spacious home has plenty of room to spread out and relax. In the winter, you will enjoy watching your own private herd of deer! One renter wrote, 'We stayed at Star of the Valley for a week last summer. The home was so welcoming. It was beautifully furnished and comfortable. Our favorite thing was the portable fire pit. Each evening we talked and roasted marshmallows and had the camp fire feeling without the camping. There were games to play, movies to watch, and a big grassy backyard to play croquet in. Our little boys liked the play tent and the teenagers loved the ping pong table. We all enjoyed eating our meals outside on the patio. We loved singing around the piano in the living room. With an early start, the home was close enough to visit Jackson Hole and return in the evening. We also enjoyed the hike to the intermittent spring right in Afton. It was very lush and cool. Our family can't wait to stay there again. We had such a great time!' Elizabeth Guertler, Sandy, UT
