About this property

Makahuena-Beautiful Ground Floor, Ocean View & Private Garden

Makahuena is a small, quiet, privately owned, condominium resort located on Poipu Point with resident manager on site. It is near the Hyatt Regency and Poipu restaurants. Poipu & Shipwreck Beaches are within 10 minute walking distance. The site includes beautiful tropical gardens, ocean views, pool & hot tub, tennis courts, and individual parking for each tenant. It also has a unique sheltered barbecue pavilion equipped for multiple use and is a favorite spot for social gatherings while cooking dinner.

The condo is a spacious (1151 ft2) ground floor end unit with a large tiled lanai (180 ft2). The lanai has a view of the ocean and is surrounded by a partially enclosed garden. The garden provides direct access to the pool and beach amenities along the cliff edge of the property. These include a sidewalk and benches for viewing the beautiful sunsets and/or marine life (whales, dolphins, turtles etc.)

The unit has a fully furnished upgraded kitchen; new tile floors; new shower; and fully upgraded bathrooms with cabinets, granite tops, and fixtures. The unit is fully decorated and well furnished with furniture and acessaries. High speed broadband internet and Wi Fi is provided along with TV and Video players. It is kept in an immaculate condition as a matter of course.

The bedrooms and attached bathrooms are separate. The Master Bedroom has a queen size bed. The 2nd Bedroom has twin beds which can be converted to king. The furniture is not designed for sleeping or conversion to sleeping. The unit is ideally designed for 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

Great Condo, Great location!
This property was clean and cozy, with a nice, large kitchen. Utensils, pots and pans were acceptable. Only a few minute walk to Poipu Beach, where the sea turtles are every afternoon. I would stay here again.

Great Stay
Spent two weeks here and enjoyed every minute. All the comforts of home in paradise. Nice to be only a few steps from your car, grill and also the pool and cliffs for sunset. All main beaches are an easy 10 min walk away. Looking forward to another extended stay in the future.

Great value, good location
We were very comfortable in this spacious 2 bedroom condo. The kitchen was well equipped, having everything we needed to cook all our meals. It was a short walk to either Poipu or Shipwreck beach; it was also possible to watch the sunset from the grassy area just past the pool. We really appreciated the detailed instructions sent to us, which made our late night arrival easy.

First visit to Kauai
We had a great stay! The location is excellent. The property amenities were very nice. The condo was quiet, comfortable and well equipped. There are beach towels/chairs/cooler to use. The condo unit is a ground floor, so you don't get the trade wind breezes. The ceiling fans were running the entire time, but they are not high enough velocity. We ended up purchasing a Vornado fan at Walmart to help move the air better. Would love to have had blackout curtains on the primary bedroom as there are outdoor property lights on all night.

I am a retired Boeing Engineer; My wife is a retired College Professor. We have been coming to Poipu since 1982. Makahuena has been in our sight over most of this time as the most desirable place along Poipu shores. We were finally able to purchase this unit in 2006 and with a total upgrade has become our second home. We rent it selectively to ease the burden of ownership expenses, not as an investment property.
We hope all prospective renters will enjoy it as we do and take care of it as we do.

Why they chose this property

One of the reasons we chose to buy our unit in Makahuena is that this is a ownership facility (no RCI presence). Consequently we get to know our neighbors and we all have a very intense vested interest in the maintenance and use of our facilities. Further it is located strategically near excellent beaches and the center of activity in Poipu.

What makes this property unique

Some of the unique benefits of our unit being on the ground floor are direct access to the swimming pool and hot tub; a sheltered garden with a view of the ocean located 300 ft from our lanai; direct access to path that leads to benches on the edge of the ocean on the back of Makahuena; and finally within 15 minute walking distance from either Poipu Beach or Ship wreck beach (behind the Grand Hyatt Regency). Most of all many wonderful friends come here, as we do, to enjoy this wonderful paradise.
