About this property
Original House, Private Dock On Lake, Near Public Boat Landing.
If you are looking for a classic mountain getaway, with a superb location in the Nantahala National Forest - on Lake Nantahala - this is your place! By 'classic' we mean it was built by our children's great-grandparents as a mountain vacation home and fishing base back in the '60s. It is NOT a million dollar McMansion thrown up a few years ago that will cost a fortune to rent. It's our family lakehouse. And, we're happy to rent it to you.
This vacation get-away is located on Lake Nantahala with direct access to a private dock and absolutely beautiful views of the lake and mountains. The lake can be enjoyed for swimming, fishing and boating. Many other outdoor activities are within arm's reach of the property.
The location of the house on the lake is something special, a place where you can retreat to get away from the grind of normal life. It is a true escape, nestled away in a stand of enormous poplar trees with a view of the large lake area in front of the distant dam. The hours melt away as you settle into a life of mountain informality, fantastic natural surroundings and wonderful fellowship with family and friends.
The house was one of the first properties built on the lake, and has been maintained and updated with modern amenities. The two-level house is ideal for families and groups of friends. The upper (driveway) level has two bedrooms and one large sleeping area with a screened-off double bed, two single beds and a couch bed. The lower level features a family room with a wood burning fireplace, a large, well-equipped kitchen, and an outside patio facing the lake with a gas grill. It has all the character of a family mountain cabin, with added features like remodeled kitchen, washer/dryer, and a flat screen TV for viewing DVD/VCRs (we do not currently have broadcast TV due to poor sattelite signal).
The public boat landing is nearby, within 5 minutes by car or a short 15 minute walk. A canoe is included along with paddles and personal floatation devices.

Why they chose this property
The house was built by our father and mother when there were only a few houses on the lake. The land it was built on was part of a large tract of land that our parents bought back when the Nantahala Lake was known to only a few local mountain folk. It has been in our family ever since.
To say that there are countless memories of visits and gatherings of family and friends is a huge understatement. We gather here during three seasons (it's a bit cold in the winter so it is generally closed then) and enjoy the wonderful scenery and all that mountain fresh air.
This house is a true treasure and was built by our father and other local mountain men. The stone steps to the lake were laid by a local mason. The trees, including two apple trees and a pear tree, were planted by our father. And to this day I tend to and add to our mother's wonderful selection of native plants that add different colors to the landscape throughout the year.
