cozy sheep and wool weekend

We had a lovely stay in a beautiful old historic house, the fireplaces were well stocked with dry wood and it was every bit as cozy as we had hoped. Jane was very communicative and it had everything we needed.

This house is lovely - beautifully decorated and cozy. My complaint is that Jane entered the house when we weren’t there with no communication which felt an invasion of privacy. Additionally, there is a man who lives downstairs in the property who is the caretaker, but you can hear everything he does very clearly (and he talks on the phone loudly) from the second bedroom. My daughter could also see his lights through her door and finally she had to come into my room to sleep without interruption. Additionally, when we returned Saturday at around 8pm the door was locked and we hadn’t been given keys by the caretaker (Jane told me that the doors were never locked - which might have seemed unusual, but we live in a small town where people also do not lock doors) and since we kept our valuables with us we felt ok with the owner’s rules. Being locked out led to a confusion of phone calls and texts, but we were in the house in fairly short order. I didn’t entirely appreciate that Jane stated that I might have accidentally locked the door (I didn’t, how would I even do it without the key?) and omitted the important detail that she had been there that afternoon. It was a bit kooky, overall.

Lovely old house but needed better preparation

Lovely old house, interesting artwork, very nice useable fireplaces, great walks nearby along the creek, very nice owner. Disappointing preparation for our stay, though we did make our arrangements only a week ahead. Closets and dressers were full so we couldn't unpack our luggage, and bedroom lighting was dim so we couldn't see inside our suitcases. Refrigerator was packed so we could not easily fit our food in. Kitchen appliances and accessories were old. We had a very nice stay, and enjoyed playing games during the evening in front of the fireplace.

The property was not an entire home. Only one bedroom was cleared out for us (with a futon for a mattress) and many of the spaces were off limits because the owner lives there full time. The kitchen stove did not work and the bathtub required cleaning due to cobwebs, dust, and dead bugs. After the period where a refund was possible, I received check-in instructions from the host that a man who lives in the lower level of the house with full access to the rest of the house would be showing us around and required me to share my phone number with him. This should have been explicit in the listing. My partner and I were looking for something more private and an entire home to rent-- which was not the case.

Beautiful getaway

Jane's house is beautiful and full of character. With trees all around and a short walk from a waterfall, this is a perfect getaway from the city. Jane and Christopher were very available and happy to help above and beyond.

Nice location, old, interesting house, quiet (could be a bit cleaner)

We stayed 2 nights - a family of 5 - lots of space - quiet location in the woods a lot of stuff lying around in the kitchen though - a bit outdated and as I mentioned in the title it could be cleaner - lots of spiderwebs

From arrival to departure, we remained very content with Jane' place.

The space is perfect for cabin lovers. 3 fireplaces. WOW. Jane left ample wood supply, as well as linens, even food.

I am a Senior, semi-retired, Italian teacher and poet. This home has offered me a refuge to be able to think, imagine and compose. I also love being with family and friends and this home has been a perfect place to spend memorabler times together.

Why they chose this property

I bought this house and property a little over 20 years ago. I was looking for a place that resembled what gave me the greatest delight in my childhood - fields and woods, trees, clear- running brooks -all lost where I had spent my earliest years - lost in the name of 'progress.' Just delighted to find those elements of nature that I loved so much here on Mossy Hill Road in the Catskills.

What makes this property unique

Experience living in a quiet spot with fields and woods surrounding.
Enjoy picnicking or grilling outside. Or retire with a book - there are lots of books here for guests to enjoy!
