About this property

Olivetree is set in our beautiful landscaped gardens close to the pool

Olive Tree is one of our three beautiful villas set in our spacious landscaped gardens which have been carefully chosen for their beautiful flowers and foliage, allowing for a private experience, with mature trees providing shade from the sun.

Our emerald green lawns give the opportunity to lay back and sunbath around the pool, or play a few lawn games.

The pool is a massive 20 meters by 10 meters, perfect for relaxing in or for the serious swimmer to get some lengths in. The pool is situated 30 meters from the villa and shared with the other 2 villas. Available 24hrs a day.

The villa has two bedrooms, one large double and a twin room with the option of adding an extra single bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Space to sit inside and eat or enjoy our outside patio area with gas BBQ for alfresco dinning.

We have a gated private parking spot for each villa. Guests are very welcome to enjoy our various gardens at any time to relax and enjoy the Cretan flowers and wildlife in perfect tranquility.

Our village is located at the foot of the mountain Malaxa, and has the feel of a traditional Greek village, yet only 4km from Chania. There are two local mini markets a chemist and a coffee shop. There is also a traditional taverna serving food and drink.

Meltemaki beach is 2km away it is a beautiful sandy beach popular with the locals. There is a fish taverna, perfect for experiencing authentic Mediterranean seafood.

There is a village bus stop 30 meters from the entrance to the car park, and a bus stop 1km away on the main road from Souda to Chania, buses run every 20 minutes from there and three times a day from the village bus stop.
Taxis from the center of Chania back to Crete retreat are around 8 euro.

Crete retreat is a family run business and we live on site so are available if needed. We are animal lovers with dogs, cats, chickens and parakeets kept within our own premises. Guests are welcome to arrange a visit.

In our opinion Crete Retreat is a perfect environment for people who wish to explore and enjoy Crete, from a beautiful and unique oasis.


Tourist Tax 2026

Winter in Crete

Our trip to Crete Retreat was fantastic! Beautiful grounds, quiet and very enjoyable sitting in the sun near the pool having a glass of incredible Greek wine. Rob and Rachel were outstanding hosts. We got to meet their whole family. Great family atmosphere and I would not hesitate recommending this property to others. Close enough to Chania city for easy access and far enough away for quiet tranquility. The Crete Retreat was perfectly located on the island for us to easily visit most of the island by car. Beautiful landscape and wonderful people. I would highly recommend staying with these wonderful hosts!

Rustic and quiet

The villa is squirrelled away in a nearly hard-to-find track in quiet Tsikalaria, near Chania. I used StreetView and Google Maps to find the location before I left the UK! The villa itself is pleasant, with two ample bedrooms with fantastic aircon. There's a functional kitchen, lounge area and a bathroom with a reasonable shower. Don't expect top of the range fittings or mod-cons...this is not that type of villa. For example, there's no TV. It is rustic, private and perfectly usable. There's a small outside dining area that is a big sun-trap and gets hot. There are two other villas on the complex, both set away from this one. You don't really hear the others, unless they have an Eastenders-style shouting match.... The grounds are fine and well maintained by Ian, who you do see often tending the grounds. The shared swimming pool is large, wide and deep. There is a small shallow area for smaller people, but this isn't that big. Two thirds of the pool are over 1.9m deep. It is a very nice pool with sunbeds around it on grass. You can have sun and shade as you want. The grounds are shared with Ian's three peaceful dogs and some cats. You also see lovely dragonflies and unfortunately some mozzies! Access to the national road is extremely easy - 1 min away. You are 10 mins drive from Chania and 30 mins from Kissamos. 20 mins away is the waterpark. There is a bus stop within a few mins walk. Ian, the owner, was very friendly and helped us when required. On-site wifi is intermittent, so I used 4G instead - it was very quick for me, just make sure you have sufficient data in your plan. There's a local supermarket called "AB" five minutes away which is really nice but a touch expensive. Lidl is another 5 mins away. In all, very nice quiet and rustic, so don't expect clean lines and mod-cons.

Ein großzügiges Haus in einem zauberhaften Garten mit sehr herzlichen Vermietern

Der paradiesische Garten und der große Pool sind ganz außergewöhnlich. Trotz der Nähe zur Hauptstraße ist es sehr ruhig und man hört nur Vögel sowie manchmal die Hühner. Rob und seine Familie sind absolut herzlich und leben Gastfreundschaft.Das großzügige Haus bietet alles, was man für einen Urlaub braucht. Für unseren ganz persönlichen Geschmack waren jedoch das Hausinnere sowie die Einrichtung schon recht verwohnt.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub mit tollen Gastgebern

Der Aufenthalt begann mit einer wunderbaren Begrüßung mit vielen Tipps und einem tollen Ferienhaus. Rob und Rachel waren immer für einen Tipp und Hilfe ansprechbar. Man hatte das Gefühl, dass man bei Freunden zu Besuch war! Die Lage ist zentral. Ich empfehle aber immer ein Auto, da kein schöner Strand fussläufig zu erreichen ist, mit dem Auto aber der gesamte Westen Kretas super zu erkunden ist und auch zeitlich im Urlaubsrahmen ist. Es gibt regelmäßig frische Eier und einen tollen Gartenshop mit schönem Kunsthandwerk. Wir kommen gerne wieder!!

Excellent séjour dans un très beau cadre

Le logement lui même est très basique et un peu vieillissant mais propre. La très grande piscine au milieu du jardin est un vrai luxe La présence des nombreux chiens est très sympathique (pour ceux qui les aiment) Quant à Ian il est très serviable, très gentil. Il est à la fois présent et très discret. Je recommande tout à fait cette location

Bonne location un peu chère

Appartement spacieux et confortable. Cependant l'équipement de la cuisine est très sommaire pour cuisiner pour 4 (pas assez de couverts et ustensiles de cuisine). Il manquent des moustiquaires aux fenêtres qui permettraient de bénéficier de l'air frais la nuit sans avoir à utiliser la climatisation très bruyante. La piscine est très grande mais pas très propre. L'hôte est très discret mais disponible.

great place to discover Chania & surrounding

Very satisfied of our stay at Ian's house. The house was well furnished and clean. You have all you need to spend a cosy and confortable stay. Swiming pool is very large and you can relax in several seats around. The BBQ set is fantastic for a happy meal and easy to use. Ian is often available for any question & tip. The location is easily accessible.

La casa esta integrada en una finca muy tranquila con mucha vegetacion. La piscina esta muy bien y se comparte con poco vecinos. Ian el propietario es muy atento y agradable. La ubicacion es muy buena para conocer el oeste de la Isla. A solo 12 m del centro de Chania y con las principales visitas a 60 o 90 minutos. (Balos, Elafonisi, Retinmo, Falasarna. Sfakia....) Un sitio para desconectar. A mejorar un poco el equipamiento. Una nevera mas grande, un microondas, persianas, mosquiteras en ventanas. Un sitio para volver.

Mrs IAN est trés attachant Un endroit trés bien situé au milieu d'oliviers,à 10 minutes (en voiture) de Chania ; arrêt de bus pas loin de la location. Moins de 50km de Rethimon. Endroit très paisible pas de bruit ,confort, terrasse au soleil avec un abri;barbecue. Piscine entretenue et propre. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour et IAN est de bon conseil pour les visites. Sejour de deux semaines en famille

La maison très fonctionnelle contient les équipements essentiels. La propriété est vraiment agréable : beaucoup de verdure, les chiens, chats et poule que nos enfants citadins ont vraiment appréciés (et nous aussi d'ailleurs) et bien entendu la piscine !!. Le BBQ à gaz partagé est également très convivial. Ian et son épouse sont à la fois attentifs et discrets. Il y a beaucoup de choses à voir dans l ouest de la Crête : les gorges de Samaria pour les marcheurs, la plage paradisiaque de Balos, celle d'Elafonisi, et quelques monastères. Les villes de Chania et Réthymnon valent aussi le détour.

Eighteen years ago we finally realized our long held dream and set off from England to our new life on the warm and sunny island of Crete. We had already purchased a plot of land with a house and one acre of orange trees and olive trees.

In the time honoured fashion of the island it took over a year to overcome the paperwork and legalities connected with our purchase but then we were able to start our huge project.

The gardens and villas slowly took shape, each year bringing exciting changes as the trees and plants matured. The result is now three villas set in beautiful gardens. Having been to Greece on previous occasions we wanted to make the accommodation spacious. A large bathroom was a must and raised sun terraces were top priority. We wanted to create individual privacy without being isolated and a pool that you could really swim in.

Our place is a unique, huge landscaped garden with mature shady trees, green lawns, exotic plants and a large swimming pool.
A perfect environment for people who wish to enjoy Crete, the fresh air, the sun, the shade, the food, the wine and the swimming pool.
Our pet cats and dogs live together in sweet harmony, a memorable experience especially for children.
Families have a great opportunity to relax together or find space, peace and quiet knowing that their loved ones are in a safe enclosed environment.
Friendships do often develop between families, children playing in the pool or on the lawns while Mum and Dad chat.
Our location makes it easy to explore the important historical sites dotted around close by and the countless beaches, busy or secluded. The two amazing gorge walks are within easy reach and if you decide to go inland into the mountains and villages with their tavernas, you will experience the timeless life of this beautiful island.
A walk to the local village taverna in the evening is a great way to end the day.

What makes this property unique

The extra large swimming pool and lawn sunbathing areas are ideal for a workout and relaxing. The abundance of greenery is very easy on the eye especially the beautiful flowers.
Right next door to us is the important site of the battle of Crete on 42nd street which is marked by a memorial.
