Barbizon, the painters' village:
Home to the pioneers of the Impressionist movement, the Auberge Ganne brings you back in the atmosphere of reaction against romantic classical and academic painting. Corot, Millet, Rousseau were followed by the younger generation, Monet, Bazille, Renoir. Hundred artists were living in Barbizon in 1875.

Thomery is the village of painter Rosa Bonheur:
The animal painter chose to settle down in 1859 in Thomery. The house and museum remained intact and reflects the personality of this famous woman artist. Until the 60s, Thomery was also famous for its table grapes, Chasselas, and its mode of preservation. Grape crop walls were built in 1730 and their total length was estimated at 350 km. Today, many houses have kept the walls and vines and continue the local tradition.
The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte:
Constructed in the 17th century surrounded by a huge park, Vaux-le-Vicomte was the castle of Nicolas Fouquet, Treasurer of Louis XIV. Many artists have demonstrated their talent in Vaux-le-Vicomte : Molière, La Fontaine, Le Nôtre, Le Vau.
Samois-sur-Seine :
For more than twenty years, the island in the Seine hosts the annual 'Django Reinhardt' Jazz Festival. In the rue du Bas Samois is the house where Django Reinhardt lived and died. The Gypsy guitarist (1910-1953) is buried in the village cemetery.
