About this property

An Artistic Experience in Reykjavík

In the historic center where Reykjavík City‘s old heart beats there is a unique old house that used to be called Aberdeen.

The house is owned by a family of artists who have left their mark on every detail of the house. The style of the house is an interesting fusion of soft wooden old style from before the year 1900 and a modern raw artistic touch.

The location is fantastic, with a view over the streets of the old town, surrounded by museums, galleries, cafés, restaurants and the old harbour.

If you are into the unusual and want to experience an artistic side of Reykjavík, then this is your place.

Practicalities:
- This is a whole apartment which is ideal for a couple.
- Shampoo is provided and loads of toiletries.
- Water is in abundance, hot and cold. And don't be fooled to believe you have to buy water in Iceland - it's all fresh and natural spring water on the tap.
- Air conditioning is not needed at all in Iceland, hence not implemented.
- The house is as warm as you need it to be as there is plenty of radiators around.
- There should be sugar, coffee and tea in the kitchen, and some basics like cornflakes and spaghetti which may come in handy for tired travelers.
- We may add a little flavour to your stay with little details here and there for you to enjoy, but we'll not disclose too much at this time. Surprises in a life flooded with information are underrated.
- Parking is included during your stay, which is quite a catch nowadays in the center of Reykjavík. By staying with us, however, you are in walking distance of countless attractions.
- When you arrive at the airport you can take the FlyBus and ask to be dropped off at the Hotel Center Plaza which is a 2 mins walk away.
- This is one of Reykjavík's oldest wooden houses and is located so centrally that there may naturally be some noises from the city's street life.
- The proprietor is quite a seasoned traveler herself, speaks several languages and is well in tune with her beautiful country. She will be happy to be of assistance.

Well then, see you in 101 Reykjavík, at the very place this young city began!

Beautiful place, delightful host!
Old Town is a must see in Reykjavik, and this property is in the heart of old town. A beautifully restored cottage with every modern amenity. Our host Elsa provided all basic kitchen necessities, and snugly bathrobes and flip flops. Walk-able to all of the interesting sights in town as well as the waterfront. She left us some excellent recommendations - including the darling Tapas place next door -winner! I recommend this cottage to any first timer or returning visitor and will hopefully get the opportunity to return! But be prepared, dining out in Iceland is a very expensive proposition...a must is to find the famous downtown hot dog stand (started with a B) - seriously. Great value and amazing dogs! Bring layers, rain gear, and don't forget, hot water from the geothermal sources smells like sulfur! There is nothing wrong with it and promise, you don't smell after your shower!

Beautiful apartment located near the old harbor and a good starting point for exploring the island.
Elsa is very attentive and has a neat and clean property. Only warning—-ask for the upper level apartment. We had the first floor apartment—-you could clearly hear footsteps from those above. On our second night a very loud and drunk group came in around 1am and kept us awake for an hour. Would have been okay but had to get up at 4am to go to the airport. Overall, can’t say enough nice things about this property and the price was much better than comparable apartments.

Cozy but loud
The location and amenities are great. It is on a bustling corner and within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and sights. The space was perfect for my grandma and me while we were in town for two days. She slept in the bedroom while I used the sofa bed. The free parking was especially nice to have but we arrived after dark and the exact location was confusing. You have to jump a small curb to get into the spots in the back. We had a supermini rental car and it was intimidating. There are also spots in the front of the house but there is a large red warning sign which looks like the area is a tow-away zone (although it is not). I was able to get in touch with the manager quickly and she was very helpful but it was stressful after first arriving. The other thing to be aware of is the high level of noise audible from outside and upstairs. I live in a large US city so I'm used to noise but you could hear every footstep and whisper. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing ear plugs.

Quaint apartment right in old harbor!
The House of the Snowbird was in a great location near the old harbor neighborhood, with easy access to many restaurants and pubs, and within walking distance of many Reykjavik sites. The apartment was clean and had many amenities in the kitchen for making you own meals. We enjoyed our trip to Iceland and are looking to come back again soon!

Peaceful setting on Burfell Mountain with lovely views over the countryside
This is a lovely hytte in a peaceful setting with awesome views over the countryside that fall away toward the ocean, and a mountain behind the hytte called Burfell. The hytte is within 15 minutes driving distance to Selfoss, yet neighbors are far and few, and the setting is still and quiet. The hot tub/jacuzzi on the outdoor patio is incredibly relaxing! Water out of the tap is ice cold and delicious! The interior is spacious, well-furnished and stocked with all the essentials. We enjoyed the peacefulness in, and around, the hytte all day long, occasionally venturing out for a mountain hike, or an excursion to nearby sights! For anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, look no further: this secluded hytte tucked in front of the Burfell mountain is your place!

I have a masters degree in philosophy and teaching. I am quite a seasoned traveler, speak several languages and have lived in a few other countries than Iceland.
Currently I work closely with my mother in her art studio and freelance as a photographer. These particular days, though, I spend with my newborn son and enjoy life as a mother of two living in a beautiful architectural house in Reykjavík city.

One of the main themes in my life is to explore and discover, to broaden my mind and experience as much as I can. It is my belief that nothing deepens us more as human beings than various experiences to reflect upon.
