Taos with lots of room and amenities for a big family

Recommended w/o reservation. Everyone in my family said that this was the best place that we had ever gone for a reunion. Lots of space to sit around and talk: large living room; 2 outside, covered, picnic tables with grill; metal fire-pit with Adirondack chairs to sit in after dinner and watch the fire to relax. No noise at all, except for a raccoon calling one evening. Within 10 min of downtown Taos (historic area and plaza) in the middle of the day when traffic was heavy. Close to rafting on the Rio Grande and hikes to hot springs, also along the Rio Grande. In short, this property, with room to relax and enjoy, is in an ideal location. Also, ideal property for getting together. Lots of room for sleeping, eating, preparing food and playing games around the table. There were 13 adults who had plenty of room and plenty of linens (bathing and kitchen linens.) We had use of the washer and dryer if we wanted to do laundry on vacation (Surprise! Surprise! My sister actually did do a load of laundry! The laundry soap was there to use.) The kitchen was well equipped with anything you might need for cooking, roasting, baking or clean-up. And plenty of counter space as well as a big island that could seat 6. There were often 4 of us helping to cook or clean up and we never got in each other's way. No problem finding silverware, steak knives, spatulas, serving spoons or serving platters/bowls, cooking utensils & knives and plenty of mugs, bowls, dinner and luncheon plates as well as glasses and stemware. And I almost forgot the long-handled grilling utensils for the outdoor grill. The plastic bags, dishwasher soap and dish soap were all there, so no need to buy stuff that you would just leave behind when you left to fly home. The only thing we had to buy was food to prep and cook--there were even spices and condiments there for our use. This was the best equipped kitchen for feeding a big group that any of us had ever used. Rooms were substantial and quiet: if I went to bed early, I could not hear the others talking elsewhere in the house. I forgot to mention: close to hiking in Carson National Forest, fresh eggs from the chickens, Hector's helpfulness (the caretaker on the property,) tasteful art work decorating the house, & privacy gate. GREAT property in a great place to see the iconic Southwest. The owner was helpful, pleasant and easy to get in touch with, by phone. The damage deposit was refunded promptly.

Authentic, graceful

Our family of 12 treasures our Christmas stay in this beautiful adobe house. And the caretaker managed the impossible: when the dishwasher broke down Christmas night, he had a new one installed the next morning while we were off skiing. Every detail in the house is thoughtfully executed and the llamas and dog are a plus!

Thanksgiving in Taos

Beautiful home that was clean, comfortable, and a great family holiday retreat. Hector was lovely as a caretaker and available. Paloma the compound pup was delightful, as were the llamas. Kitchen was well stocked with all we needed for a Thanksgiving feast. Thank you to Agnes for her beautiful art, radiant heat floors for snowy mornings, and overall lovely home.

Great eclectic NM house

The house is very unique and has lots of New Mexico style. The house looks hand made like a work of art. We enjoyed our stay but a few of our taller guests found the shorter doorways a bit awkward. I am 5'-8" and had to duck through a few, but every door seems handmade for it's opening. The property is very nice and the setting is relaxing. We really liked the separation of the bedrooms as it gave a lot of privacy.

taos hacienda

we stayed here 4 years ago, and enjoyed it so much that we returned. It is a real 6 bedroom house, not a "bedroom" that is a living room with a sleeper sofa. It has a great deal of charm inside and the outdoor areas are delightful . We plan to come here again next year. jim farmer

Phenomenal Property!

Great property for a large family and especially kids! The kids especially enjoyed the playground, animals and large yard for them to run and play in. Felt extra safe with the fence, it was like our own compound. Having Hector, the caretaker, on the property definitely was a bonus. The large kitchen and dinning room table was exceptional. The living room was much smaller than it looked in the pictures but it worked for the kids. Definitely low doorways but after the first initial bumps, we learned our lessons! LOL Internet was spotty but we all loved it as it gave us a break from technology and just enjoy our vacation. Rooms were very nice and so were the bathrooms. Decor was spot on. Close to main highway and anywhere you needed to go in town. Neighbor not so friendly, but didn't deter from our fabulous vacation. We will definitely be back. Agnes was amazing in communicating as was Hector and would recommend property to anyone! Thank you Agnes for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home and make so many wonderful memories!

Family reunion in August

Our all-ages (from senior to 6-week-old) family group of 12 agrees that this was the best reunion site ever! The property caretaker, Mr. Aguilara, was gracious and helpful (and we all fell in love with his lovely gentle dog, Paloma). The experience of living in an historic, well-maintained and beautifully updated adobe home was amazing. It was cool in the daytime and warm in the night, and incredibly quiet in each room (even with a crying baby and a couple of rambunctious boys). There were bedrooms for everyone, and plenty of bathroom access - all beautifully appointed spaces. The common areas are perfect for a large family group like ours - a large kitchen with a big table, and wonderful outdoor gathering spots. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals together, and we used the outdoor grill most nights. The boys had so much fun playing on the swings and checking out the chickens. The location is excellent - outside of Taos, but very close, and with beautiful hiking options in all directions. We also visited the excellent art museum and the Taos Pueblo. Everyone said that we need to come back soon and do it all over again, in this wonderful home-away-from-home.

Lovely, large, comfortable house

This house has a lovely, well-equipped kitchen with a dining table in front of picture windows that was big enough for our group of 13. There were plenty of beds and bedrooms for all. The kids enjoyed the playhouse and llamas. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful adobe oasis minutes from Taos

10 of us descended on Taos for a family trip and had a wonderful stay at this home. It’s spacious layout makes for a social kitchen and living room. The backyard is perfect for grilling, yoga and watching the llamas. Access to the national forest is a 2 minutes drive. We will definitely be back.

We loved this house! Except for a few bumped heads, it was perfect!

Our family reunion was wonderful! Ages 2 to 72! We didn’t all sleep here but 24 gathered for dinner, music and games all 3 nights. The outdoor space is perfect! And the kitchen is spacious and easy to cook and serve. Would have loved screens on the bedroom windows so we could have opened the windows at night. Close proximity to Taos and New Mexico River Adventures. Quiet and private and great parking areas for guests. Thank you!

Would love to return!

This is a BEAUTIFUL historical house and property with a helpful caretaker on the grounds. My granddaughter loved being able to play with his dogs and help feed the chickens. The area is within easy driving to many activities, shops, restaurants and groceries. I found the climate perfect, but one son-in-law experienced severe altitude sickness. Staying overnight at a lower altitude the night before arrival might help alleviate this issue. We prefer to do our own cooking and found the baking situation to be a bit of a challenge. Instructions for the oven would be helpful. The refrigerator and pantry were plenty large and having two sinks made it easy for several to cook at once...which we enjoy. Because it is cool at night, the abundance of windows and two standing air conditioners kept the house quite temperate. Doorways are low and steps abundant which is part of the charm of the building but took my taller sons-in-law a while to get used to. The lack of comfortable seating was something of a problem. The only place to play games is at the grand kitchen table, sitting on benches much like a picnic, which can be wearing on the back. Since there is no awning or pergola outside the wonderfully capacious window, it also got rather warm in that space playing games in the afternoon. There was a bucket of brochures on activities available in the area. However, our hiking experience and bird watching on the patio would have been enhanced by the presence of reference material on birds and wildflowers of New Mexico. The variety of bedroom sizes allowed a perfect fit for the eleven of us and the beds, linens and pillows are quite comfortable contrary to how they look in the photos. We found the three bathrooms, two with tubs as well as showers, delightful to be in and quite adequate for our needs. There are plenty of shelves, closets and hangers. The laundry facilities were a great bonus. I particularly enjoyed the flowers: roses, moonflowers, sage, sweet peas, wild raspberries (we ate some), hollyhocks, phlox and a grape vine. There had been iris and peonies earlier. The two llamas in the pasture added a picturesque charm to the whole place and the neighbors rooster was a treat to hear for this former farmer's daughter. It was a wonderful place to celebrate my birthday with family and I hope to return soon.

Beautiful Retreat Getaway

First steps into the front door had us speechless. Both the history of the home and exceptional decor took us mentally into another time and place. It is beautifully appointed with ample space for all. Our family of 11 had plenty of room to sleep and relax. Hector took great care of us, too. The children loved walking the grounds to check out the llamas and chickens. Flora and fauna were vividly colorful and enjoyable. The cooks in our family appreciated the well stocked kitchen and commercial grade gas range. The grounds included picnic tables, grills and a firepit which allowed us to take in the fresh mountain air. We can't wait for our next stay at this uniquely incredible home!

I would call it a hacienda rather than a house.

Very clean and well kept. Everything we needed, except for food, was there on the premises. The caretaker was friendly and helpful. The fire pit was extremely popular and the firewood supply was endless. Two comments: (1)The living area appears much larger than it actually is in the online photo. It is not very comfortable or conducive to large group gatherings; (2) There was no TV, which our group would have appreciated for weekend football games. And, oh yes, most of the doorways are built for people under 5'3" -- duck!!

My family and I had a wonderful family reunion at your property. The area was wonderful and gave us loads of things to do during the day. We would collect together at the end of the day and even with 6 cooks in the kitchen at once making dinner we never felt crowded or in each others way. The rooms were perfect with loads of space for all of us. The large kitchen table allowed us to gather and talk in either large groups or small. The only complaint would have been the number of heads that were bumped on the door frames until everyone got into the habit of ducking at the right moment. Thank you for sharing this great home.

14 maestas road

My friends and I absolutely loved this place. Loads of room with lots of real bedrooms with king sized beds and good mattresses. There is so much charm here. The original part of the house is very old, but all the updating has been done with attention to detail and comfort. Nothing in the house has been done on the cheap---from the wolf range in the kitchen to the heated floors, to the expensive european style windows. The nice property caretaker brought us fresh laid eggs from the on-site chickens (too far away to hear). There is quite a bit of acreage here, and children would have a great time playing in the playhouse and the adjoining field. Two sweet dogs and two llamas also on the property.
