About this property

Charming four double-bedroom stone-built cottage in beautiful Vale of Glamorgan

A traditional oak-beamed cottage, in parts dating back over 300 years, in a rural village setting, sleeping up to eight people in four bedrooms. The accommodation also comprises two bathrooms, two reception rooms (including one with an open fire), a kitchen with large dining area, a downstairs cloakroom/utility room and two charming courtyard gardens, including one with BBQ.

Set in the unspoiled and historic Vale of Glamorgan, Ty Gwyn is in the heart of the village of Wick, with its medieval church, village shop, post office, village green and its two traditional country public houses.

The cottage is close to the Glamorgan Heritage Coastline (a stunning section of the Welsh Coast Path), beaches and other activities. Cowbridge, an attractive market town, is a 15-minute drive away, with the historic town of Llantwit Major being only a 10-minute drive. The house is within walking distance of the coastal path and is in a great location to participate in a range of activities, including horse riding, mountain biking, walking, cycling and surfing, with the sandy beaches at Southerndown, Llantwit Major and Ogmore only a short drive away; there are four golf courses within a 15-minute drive. Further afield, there are easy routes to Swansea and the Gower Peninsular, Cardiff and the south Wales valleys. The house is fully equipped to modern standards and is ideal for families wanting either a quite break or an activity-based holiday.

Only 20 minutes from the M4 and easy access via the main rail line into south Wales; Wick is also served by regular buses which run via the coastal villages to Bridgend, Barry and Cardiff.

Please be aware that the ground and first floor are not all on one level, and escape from the first floor in the case of kitchen fire is via the bedroom windows; please enquire from the owner for further details.

Reluctantly, we have had to increase our prices for 2024 and beyond owing to the new Fire-Safety Regulations, effective 1 October 2023. Various amendments to the property are scheduled for Autumn 2023 to ensure that we comply.

About the host

Hosted by Mr Huw Daniel

Host profile image
Huw grew up in a coal-mining valley north of Port Talbot but knew the Vale area well. So when the opportunity came to purchase a second home in the area, we jumped at the chance to spend more time in such a beautiful and unspoilt area of South Wales. We have three children and live and work in Greater London but going to Ty Gwyn as often as we can.

Why they chose this property

"Modern but with character, spacious, comfortable, lots of 'extras', prompt and helpful communication with caring owner" are some of the comments made recently by guests who have stayed at Ty Gwyn.

What makes this property unique

We are now able to welcome guests to the Vale again. Please rest assured that we will take every effort to make your stay safe, comfortable and relaxed. For your peace of mind, we are following the latest advice from HomeAway:
1. Bed linen and towels will be washed at 60 C instead of the usual 40 C.
2. Kitchen and bathrooms and all frequent-contact surfaces will be thoroughly cleaned with the recommended disinfectant.
3. We will ensure non-contact checking in and out of the cottage.
4. Guests will be permitted to use the washing machine and dryer to wash items mid stay, if desired, and washing detergent will be provided.
5. We will supply generous amounts of hand wash, kitchen and bathroom cleaning materials, anti-bacterial wipes and hand-sanitising gel.
6. Guests will be requested to remove and store foot ware in the entrance lobby.
7. Unfortunately, we will have to cease our practice of leaving tea, coffee and kitchen basics such as condiments for our guests.

As you will appreciate, we have had to add a modest surcharge, temporarily, to cover the cost of the additional procedures listed above.
