Our second time to stay at tne Rookery. Love it there. The cottage this stay had a nicely stocked kitchen with dishes, utensils, small appliances. Decor nicely done. Beds were on the soft side and wish we didn't have to drive to get to the pool. The small pool closeby was really small but enjoy the hot tub and larger pool area. Ocean and beach are always a favorite. Screened in porch was very appreciated. Nice property and the residents we have met there are friendly and give good southern hospitality.
The property was convenient to use. The pool really came in handy as the water on the beach was closed due to rip currents. Double red flags flew all week. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing wrong was the stove was an older model electric range with coil burners and I found it difficult to use. There was an alligator in the pond.
It was exactly what we though it would be! Loved being at the the front of the neighborhood but end of the road out of the way and the pool was close. The only issue we had were the burners on the stove were messed up and slanted which wasn’t the safest and the bugs outside would eat you alive in 5 seconds. But honestly, a 9/10 for us ♥️
We visited the area during a week of lots of storms and rain, which limited outdoor activities. We were able to catch some sunshine early mornings at the beautiful pool and nearby beaches of Fort Morgan.
Our cottage was very clean and cutely decorated. Check in was simple enough, but an hour window to pick up keys took some planning when driving 12 hours to get there. We received our keys, including a key fob to the pool, but no instructions for use. Luckily there were friendly people at the pool where. we got there.
We had a great vacation and a great stay on our cottage. This was our second rental at the Rookery. It is our favorite area.

Bugs
Bugs were terrible! Couldn't spend any time by the pool, hot tub, outside in general without getting bit by those tiny bugs...then we all itched for the rest of our week there....the property owners need to do better bug control....spray, use bug zappers or something!
Over all the place was in shape. The beds were comfortable, AC worked. Upon arrival we found that the kitchen sink faucet did not work and some times it did. We reported this the first day and never heard anything back, we had right about a half roll to a quarter of a toilet paper in each bathroom with no replacement. Each time we swept we found pet hair. The kitchen table had a residue left on it. We were able to move past these things and still able to have a good stay. The pool was well kept and the residents are friendly. The beach was easy to get to. If someone from management reads this just take it as a learning experience and move one. We enjoyed it down there. Things just need tightening up.

Stay
We enjoyed our stay at the property. The beds were so comfortable and clean. However the house was not clean. However is cleaning the house is doing a minimal job at it. There ade so many random rugs full of hair and sand. I actually had to vacuum when we first checked in. The fridge is so old and loud, my kids had trouble sleeping with the noise. The toilet in main bedroom runs and the shower was very difficult to get to the right temp. If you turned it all the way to hot it stayed cold. Only after having taken a cold shower and my husband turning it various ways did we figure out that it has to stay in the center to actually have a warm shower. This can be a lovely vacation rental if it is just tended to and looked after.
Here’s your four-star review, friendly and honest with just the right balance of praise and helpful feedback:⸻We stayed here for three weeks as a family of five, and it was a great fit! The unit had everything we needed — all the amenities were present and useful, and the space worked perfectly for our group. The location is hard to beat — public beach access is right across the street, and the parking there made beach trips super convenient and stress-free.Our kids especially loved the small pool just steps away from the unit. It’s about the size of a typical backyard pool, but rarely used, so they basically had it to themselves most evenings — a huge plus! That said, we did have to do a bit of our own cleaning upon arrival. There was some sand, a few bites from no-see-ums, and quite a bit of hair to remove from the drains. Thankfully, my husband got both tubs draining like new (lol). Not ideal, but small issues that didn’t affect our overall enjoyment. The communal areas aren’t anything to rave about. The big pool is okay, but could definitely use some upgrades — music, a snack bar, and a few family events would go a long way. A pickleball court would be more useful than the tennis court, and a playground would be an excellent addition since the complex seems to attract a lot of families.A quick note on Gulf Shores in general: jellyfish are a problem (this is known). We had two great beach weeks, but the third week the water was full of them.
The Rookery is a house complex with 2 swimming pools in the middle of nature (you can hear beautiful nature sounds all the time). The house is very nice, super clean, and bigger than it seems in the pictures. As it has been told, the kitchen has all the utensils but it not stocked (no spices, no detergent, etc). Just outside the house there is a small pond (don't feed the turtles and the alligators), and the small and quiet swimming pool is 2 minute walk. The house is a 10 minute walk from the beach or 2 minute drive but with few parking spaces. There are a few restaurants and a couple of grocery stores nearby but they are overpriced (e.g., 1 gallon of milk is almost $6), so it's a good idea to bring enough groceries unless you want to drive 15 miles to get it. This is the ideal place to relax, but if you want to work note that the internet is a bit slow. The company, White Shores Realty, made the check in super easy with all the keys and instructions ready. Overall, it was a very nice and relaxing experience.
This condo is adorable and way more spacious than you'd think. There was a musty smell when we got there and it was so HOT the first night because we couldn't turn their down any lower in fear of freezing up the air conditioner (per note on thermostat), but once the air had been on for the next day it was much better. The beach is a super fast drive (or a ten minute walk). Parking might be an issue but we managed each time. Recommend for an affordable near-the-beach but away from literally everything else place to stay. :)
The Rookery is one of my favorite places to vacation on the Gulf. It is a bit far from the main parkway but that's sort of the point. It's quiet, serene and there is always parking at the public beach by the bungalos. I can't say enough great things about White Shores, I've used them before and almost always end up adding another day to my stay while I'm down there. It's never a big fuss or complicated in any way. Everyone in the office is warm and remember me from year to year when I visit. I've tried other condos and property managers at the Gulf but they rarely measure up. I'll probably use White Shores exclusively from now on and I HIGHLY suggest any travelers to that area consider the same. There are some pretty sketch-tastic property manager and condos on the shore but White Shores takes pride in providing a really great service to their customers and it shows.
Everything went smoothly. We were going to be late checking in and they were very accommodating and nice to work with.

Beautiful beach cottage! We loved having our own house near the beach! The unit was just as shown in the pictures and was very clean. We booked through White Shores Realty and they were easy to work with and very helpful! We will be back soon.
