We got married in Tappahannock the weekend of December 21. I rented this property for my bride and her bridesmaids to stay and get ready in the night/day of our wedding and then we stayed at the house an extra day after. The property has amazing views of the river and tons of space. The home is dated, however it is shown through the pictures in the listing. We would rent this property again. The owners were great to work with!
My family and I came to the area to spend Thanksgiving with my son. This property was the perfect place for our family. We loved being on the river and watching the sunrises in the morning. The house was clean and had everything that we needed. Scott was easy to get a hold of. We would definitely stay there again!
Was providing a place for son and friends to try to complete 2 legs of their paddle from Fredericksburg to the Chesapeake. Very nice house. 14 year old granddaughter enjoyed the basement pool table.
Such a beautiful view and plenty of space inside and outside of this lovely home. We have been renting for several years and always look forward to going back. Quickest two weeks of the year! Love it there.
This river home was truly a gift to my family. The location is beautiful, the house is cozy and has everything you need to settle in and feel at home. The house is so much bigger than it looks in pictures and there are so many rooms that you can spread out and relax easily. The dock was great and the beach you get at low tide was a favorite for me and my son. I hope to get to come back to this house one day for another stay! The host was also great with communication!
We enjoyed the house very much. Plenty of room so family could spend time together without being stuck up under each other. Very clean when we arrived. Comfortable beds.
My husband and I fell in love with this home we didn’t stay long enough so we will be staying again in the near future our host Scott was awesome
Everything we needed was there the home is very roomy for my family and friends 9 of us, the yard is beautiful, right on the water I just can’t wait to stay there again, the location is great near all restaurants and Walmart, my friends are still talking about this house as well… Scott thank you for your generosity you’re a great host
We enjoyed our time and especially liked the river view. Great sunrises which we enjoyed since we were up early with a baby anyways. Old house but has some updates and character. The mattresses gave some of my family back trouble and would highly recommend new ones. Also, curtains would be nice for the windows. I’m aware that pets are allowed at this place but better cleaning afterwards would be nice. The couch in the sitting area by the kitchen was covered in it! There was also still a lot on the floor.
We have stayed in this spacious home for many years and always look forward to returning. The view of the Rappahannock River is lovely and being right on the water is wonderful. The hosts are friendly and prompt if you need assistance. So happy we found this piece of paradise! The Tiller Family
Our extended family of 11 and 2 dogs had a great long weekend together! Plenty of spaces we could gather inside, and a wonderful patio with an amazing view of the river. We launched our kayaks right from the dock too! The kitchen and dining room were perfect for meals. Host was very responsive. We would like to visit again!
We had an enjoyable 5 day stay with our family over the labor day holiday. We found the house to be well kept with sufficient amenities to make your vacation enjoyable. We brought a boat and a couple of jet skis so we were able to take full advantage of the river. Also there were some water floats in the shed to use if you wanted to just hang out by the dock.
A few notes of caution:
The water at the dock is shallow and when tide is low, we found that our boat's lower drive, when all the way down, drug in the silt.
Finding gas on the river is a challenge. There is a marina close by but accessibility is hit or miss depending on tides. When we were there, the operating hours mostly aligned with lower tide levels so we just bought gas in town and brought it back in 5 gallon cans to keep the skis running. We were told the next closest marina with gas was 15 miles down river and there was nothing up river.
Lastly, while the house has a basement with pool table and other games, we found the air to be too musty to stay down there so we confined our stay to the upper floors which was not a problem for our group.
All in all, it was a great stay
This property was perfect for our small girls trip getaway! The house was maybe even too big for us but it was nice to be able to spread out. The kitchen seems to have been updated recently and was well equipped with everything we needed, but I would recommend bringing a good egg pan. The patio was perfect for evenings and grilling (definitely bring bugspray) and the view of the river was stunning. I also had my two-year-old in tow and was pleasantly surprised at the baby proofing already in place in the house. There are outlet covers and baby gates available. There was a nice beach area during low tide that we were able to go down and play. A good find for a group of all ages!
Our Family of 14 (kids and grandkids) had a great week staying at the Rivah House. The owners are very helpful and accommodating. The house and the property have plenty of room for a large family. Enjoyed the river swimming, boating, fishing and crabbing. The town and neighboring towns had everything we needed.
Our group of four adults were very comfortable in this lovely home with its wonderful river view and deeply rooted generational-family feel. There's ample space and a variety of ways to relax in the house, and easy distance to a variety of interesting excursions in the area from it.
We enjoyed the sunrise every morning and spent a good bit of our time on the sunporch. The bedrooms are all comfortable and it's always nice to have several bathrooms when you're a larger group. The kitchen has the very basics of what you need to "eat in," which is our preference, just be sure to buy or bring all your ingredients and paper products on the way there (having a Walmart and other shops just down the road makes that easy to come by!)
We really liked the patio, being able to walk to the end of the pier or along the small bit of riverbank, and found the dining table perfectly suited to our jigsaw puzzling -- stay on the lookout for the many busy osprey nesting and fishing along the river. The house is on is a main thoroughfare but set well away from it, and built solidly, so we didn't notice any noise. The stay requirements were reasonable and no problem to meet. Highly recommended if you want to stay in the area, a lot of space in a charming house, and a slower pace to your days!
