About this property
Alpenglow Ranch, Telluride: 3 br / 2 ba Panoramic Views/ 12 Acres/ Pond
ALPENGLOW RANCH offers some of the most spectacular, jaw-dropping views in the entire Telluride region. This unique 'top of the world' location features 360 degree views from atop 12 acres with a pond. The spectacular San Juan Mountains surrounding Telluride viewed from inside or from the wrap-around flagstone terrace are always inspiring. Rarely is this level of view property made available for vacation rentals, throughout the United States, and virtually never at such reasonable price.
Alpenglow Ranch takes pride in using sustainable practices whenever possible.
* The house is passive and active, in-floor solar heated.
* Appliances are all energy efficient.
* We use low flow shower heads, LED lights and smart thermostats.
* Water is from a well, that is then vortex conditioned, so every cold water tap has some of the best water you've tasted, that is routinely tested.
* Finishes are mostly BioShield products, low VOC, healthy living paints and stains.
* Cleaners use sustainable and safe products, available to guests also.
* The bathrooms have refillable soap and shampoo containers.
* Reusable cleaning cloths are supplied.
* Recycling and composting are encouraged and made easy for guests.
* Reusable shopping bags are supplied.
* Snow plow runs on propane.
Inside Alpenglow Ranch, the glassy Great Room was designed for comfort and views, and the kitchen is a joy for the chef to use. The single level design makes it easy to get around this spacious, comfortable 1200 sq ft country home.
Watching the seasons go by your window is a constant pleasure, as well as the wildlife that is always around, sometimes even looking in the windows! You can expect to see Deer, Elk, Fox, Ermine, Rabbit, Hawk and Eagle, with Duck, Goose and Great Blue Heron hanging out in the pond. Topped off by the morning and evening alpenglow, this house is a wonderful place to observe nature at its most beautiful, in a private setting, just a short, beautiful drive from everything Telluride has to offer.
Throughout the spring and summer, you can see horses grazing in pastures below.
With a large bookshelf, there is a great selection to choose from, if you're looking to curl up with a good book in front of a fire, and watch the weather and wildlife go by. The house is, on a sunny hilltop, and with in-floor heating throughout, it's always cozy at Alpenglow Ranch!
Alpenglow Ranch is a Shared Space, the owner stays in an apartment in the back, with a separate entrance. The main part of the home is where guests stay, with use of the Great Room. I will always walk you through upon your arrival and point out a few rules and other facts about the house. After that, you will barely know I'm there, unless you have a problem or questions, when I'm just a text away!
We look forward to being your hosts, and welcoming you personally to Telluride! You can count on a thoroughly unforgettable vacation experience. Since Alpenglow Ranch is 30 minutes away from the ski area, many folks like to mix their days here by enjoying the winter weather in front of the fire on some days and skiing on the ski area on others. Also there is good cross country skiing right out the door.
I keep the driveway open every day, (with very few exceptions), with my own propane powered plow, but in blizzard conditions it can be challenging. I do have several backup plow drivers with larger plows or blowers who can get the road open, though there can be a short delay.
If you're looking to get out and explore the surrounding mountains and valleys, I lead plant and mushroom hikes in the summers, and snowshoe tours in the winter, for an additional fee. On all my hikes, we will discuss local history, wildlife and lots of other places you can visit on your own, and have many guide books as well. On mushroom hikes we will return with several types of delicious mushrooms for you to sample. (I am a certified mushroom inspector for the state of Colorado).

About the host
Hosted by John SirJesse
I grew up in Los Angeles, but was ready to find a beautiful mountain home, after visiting a friend here in 1973, I was hooked. I started studying wild edible and medicinal plants in LA a year before I moved here, and continued learning them here, as well as getting into wild mushrooms too. In 1980 I was contacted to become one of the founders of the Telluride Mushroom Festival. I have a special use permit to lead my hikes on National Forest Service land, and became a Certified Mushroom Identifier for the state.
I designed and built this house myself, and have lived here ever since. I used to rent the whole house on VRBO for 11 years, but got tired of moving out when guests were here. That's why I made the apartment in back to stay in when guests are here.
I lead plant and mushroom hikes in the summers, and snowshoe tours in the winters. I also do hand carved signs and custom carvings and antique repairs.
