About this property
Magnificent views, spacious and breezy, affordable 3-bedroom home in Paradise
Enjoy magnificent unobstructed views of the ocean, Diamondhead and Waikiki from this historic vacation home while living in a spacious, updated house with loads of amenities. Plan your day, drinking a mellow cup of Kona coffee on the lanai, deciding whether to go to Hanauma Bay, the North Shore, Pearl Harbor or a beach on the Windward Side of the island. Drive 5 minutes to the expressway and be anywhere on the island in short order. The trip from the airport is 20 minutes. Come back home and relax while discussing the day’s adventures before heading for dinner in one of the restaurants in Kaimuki - 5 minutes away - or Waikiki – 2.5 miles away. Or prepare dinner in the large, well-appointed kitchen and dine on the expansive lanai while appreciating a gorgeous sunset. Before retiring, spread out in the roomy living room, watch the wide screen TV in the den, or play board games around the dining room table. There are two bedrooms – one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. The couch in the den also converts to a queen bed. There’s an easy parking spot plus plenty of off-street parking and free WiFi. A washer and dryer with detergent are available on the first floor, as well as an outside shower to wash off the beach sand. The house has lovely large side and back yards with mango, lychee and citrus trees and numerous flowering tropical plants. It’s situated on a steep street (hence the great views) and in a neighborhood where local residents go to work in the morning and come home in the evening – so there is street noise at those times. The rental unit is the entire second floor (22 steps up from the parking area) of a 2-story vintage Hawaiian home. There is a long term tenant on the ground floor who has a completely separate entrance. The manager lives right across the street and has received rave reviews for her advice and attention to tenants needs.

About the host
Hosted by Cristin

Many years ago my husband and I vacationed in Hawaii and had the crazy idea that we'd love to live here. Kids, jobs and family commitments made that crazy idea impossible at the time. However, quite a number of years later our grown daughter came up with the same idea and acted on it. She moved to Oahu and after a few years bought a home. Initially we were satisfied being occasional visitors until the first grandchild arrived. Serendipitously, within a few months her neighbor across the street informed her he was retiring and putting his place up for sale. We were able to acquire that home and enjoy it 4- 5 months a year. We hope that during the other months our guests will enjoy it as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
The first time we drove the uphill switchback street to our daughter's prospective home, we were intrigued. When we saw the incredible view from the lanai it was love at first site. Now, being able to live in a well maintained vintage home with that same amazing view is a joy. My husband and I always loved to travel and were able to do it with the kids economically (even before VRBO) by staying in B&B's. We also stayed in enough cramped hotel rooms to know which we enjoyed more. Using those travel experiences I've tried to make a pleasant home for our guests as well as for ourselves. I hope the folks that pick our home will know that they are coming to a real Honolulu neighborhood. And just like home, folks get up and go to work early in the morning so there is some street noise during "rush" hour. I hope they understand that the view entails 25 steps up from the parking area. For me, having room for my family to spread out and a yard where (in season) I can pick limes, mangos, tangerines or lychees from the trees is a good trade off. I love sitting with the family on the lanai and watching the incredible sunsets. And on Fridays evenings it's always a treat to feel that we have the best seats on the island for the Waikiki fireworks. I like being close to Kaimuki where there are a dozen reasonably priced restaurants to choose from as well as a large grocery store. We appreciate that good beaches are just 15 minutes by away by car and that some good exercise entails either an uphill or downhill walk from our front door-beautiful vistas included. Every time we come to Oahu we find a new place we haven't yet explored.
We are extremely fortunate that our daughter Cristin who lives just across the street with her husband and two sons manages the property. They're the ohana (family) that has made one crazy idea possible.
