Relax in your own couples-only private island cottage retreat on Kawawaymog Lake at Algonquin Park Access Point # 1 on Algonquin's western boundary. The island is a short canoe paddle from Algonquin Access Point #1 and our Canoe Outpost. With 360-degree water views and two decks, the cabin is fantastic for artists or couples looking for a quiet getaway in nature.
The Island was once a "camp" of Tom Wattie, who was an Algonquin Park ranger from 1900 - 1931. Tom Thomson was also a park ranger at this time and became good friends with Wattie , visiting him often at his camp, now known as the Algonquin island retreat. "The tent" and "Round Lake, Mud Bay" were painted by Thomson while staying on the Island.
The Island Retreat is solar powered and completely off-grid. Put away the smartphones, laptops and other electrical devices as they don’t work and recharge! If you would like to recharge your devices we recommend bringing portable battery packs. We can also charge select devices at our Outfitter- 15 minute paddle from the Island Retreat.
As we are 100% off the grid, there is no wifi or cell service and power is provided by solar, we do not allow for electronics to be plugged in.
