Venus Bay is a quiet seaside village an easy 2 hour (150kms) drive from Melbourne through the beautiful Gippsland countryside. It is also half way between Philip Island (45 minutes away) and Wilson's Promontory (45 minutes away) two of Victoria's most popular tourist attractions.
The village is famous for its surf beach which stretches for about 30 kms from Cape Liptrap to Point Smythe. The area is popular for surfing, fishing, walking and cycling and is full of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas, microbats and a plethora of birdlife.
The Venus Bay shops are a 5 minute drive away and include a general store/mini supermarket, a pizza shop, fish n chips, ice cream shop, gift shop, cafes and restaurant/bar that has live music most Friday evenings. Tarwin Lower has a well equipped IGA Supermarket, hotel and licensed cafe and is a 5 minute drive. The closest main town is Inverloch a 20 minute drive away. This has larger supermarket and many shops, numerous markets and restaurants.
The house is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach and a 5-10 minutes walk to the inlet flats where the kangaroos graze every day and frequent in the evenings. We have a wombat that lives here and many beautiful birds: parrots, cockatoos, galahs, wrens and the butcher birds and magpies are happy to be hand fed (they love mince meat). On a clear night, once the sun sets, the star show comes out as you relax on the deck whilst listening to the gentle sounds of the surf in the background.
Venus Bay is the place to go for a beautiful natural environment and peace and quiet and to enjoy Australia's beautiful wildlife up close. Beautiful ocean beaches, numerous National Parks, Inlets, fishing, scenic drives, fabulous local restaurants, cook up a storm in the well equipped kitchen or just relax!
Come and see for yourself why Venus Bay is one of Victoria's best kept secrets!

The house was very spacious with so linens and towels provided. The atmosphere was welcoming. The owners (David) was easy to communicate with and very prompt in response to any queries that i had. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
Great beachouse with plenty of room for the kids and our dog. The host was really helpful and communicative. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We really enjoyed the Point Smythe walk and looking for pipi’s on the beach. Thanks for a great stay, we'll be back next summer!
Very comfortable lodgings and full equipped. Great location. Not ideal for busy infants but incredible for growing families or groups. Host was always available and very helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thankyou for your review, we enjoyed having you . Most appreciated and we hope to see you again.
Lovely spot and great weather. Plenty of accommodation for 4 children and 4 adults. The house could do with a bit of a spruce but on the plus side it also means less worry with children (and dogs). Well equipped re everything you might have forgotten . Overall a very easy relaxing holiday. We lost a favoured toy which the owners found and went out of their way to return. Such a kind and thoughtful gesture.
The Pickled Pipi was a perfect house for our summer getaway. Located in the quiet second Venus bay estate & walking distance to beaches 4 &5. The house had everything we needed during our stay. Plenty of room, comfortable rooms & facilities. Kitchen was fantastically set up & heaps of cooking books to browse. Upstairs, a wonderful library of books & games for the kids. The deck was a perfectly secure area for our fur baby. He loved his twice daily walks. Anderson Inlet was a great exploration location too, with the crabs and the mangroves. Plenty of wildlife, sighted daily on walks, and daily evidence of our local wombat passing through the property. Perfect relaxation holiday home!

Great house - but not clean
Beautiful, spacious, tranquil, with a great kitchen and comfy beds! Fast wifi (keep in mind there’s limited phone reception). The host was responsive and welcoming. Unfortunately though we couldn’t recommend staying at Pickled Pipi until it’s been thoroughly cleaned. The house was extremely dirty when we arrived. Some beds had been visibly slept in with hair and dirt; there was dust, cobwebs and mouse droppings on many surfaces; th fridge, compost and pantry were soiled. The host was extremely apologetic and provided a partial refund, but we’d recommend confirming the house has been deep cleaned before booking a stay.

Easy walk to beautiful beach
This place would be fantastic if it was maintained properly. No batteries in either smoke alarm. Very hot upstairs - portable air con not great. None of the blinds work. Door to balcony broken. No advertised coffee machine (very upset about that one!). Single sheet on our double bed. One bed not made up at all. Not enough towels. Sand everywhere (BEFORE we'd been to the beach)
Could be a lovely place, just needs work and a really good clean.

Hello Kim.
Thank you for your review. A response as you have given, whilst not what is usual, is helpful to ensure we keep our standards.
I am very sorry to read your holiday was not up to expectations. We employ a maintainance, cleaning and linen service. I will pass on your response and assure you this is not typical of our guests experiences.

Pickled Pipi
This was the perfect house for our weekend getaway. Comfortable beds, great amenities, well equipped, plenty of room to spread out. Walking distance to lovely beaches.
Not a bad little get away,
Pros,
Good location, plenty of beds, tv reception is good, plenty of books, games & dvds. Nice deck area to lock up dogs. 10-15 min walk to beach. A nice beach & dog friendly on lead. Local restaurants were great & a good variety. Fridge with ice maker was well recieved. Shower & bath were nice, Didn't hear from neighbours & rarely saw them. A very private property. Nice to find a property to take pets & have 12 people sleep. 2 toilets which was great. Price of prpoerty was great.
Cons
Found the main bed hard so brought a topper, Also had issues with mosquitoes getting in, (not sure where from) noticed some mossie nets as we packed up. Please make future guests aware of these being available.
Openings from upstaira to downstairs from bedrooms which can't be closed apart from a blind. Also a back fence would be nice.
Overall it was mostly what we expected.
Thanks for letting us stayz at your place.

Rest & Relaxation
Only a 10min walk from No.5 or No.4 beach, the Pickled Pipi is a great house to catch up with friends and chill during the weekend. Definitely make it a digital detox holiday as well, as the Telstra reception is very poor in and around the house. Only certain spots upstairs will get max 2 bars. Communication with property manager was quite patchy, especially with the check in/check out details being slightly different on the Stayz website, online welcome pack and instructions at the house. Overall, we still had a great time, with the house supplying lots of boardgames/books and cooking appliances/ingredients. Definitely recommend the Riverview Hotel at Tarwin Lower for a great steak feed! Only 10 mins drive from the house.
We had an amazing week at The Pickled Pipi. The house was huge and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor space expansive and private. The stunning beach is just a short walk away. Hosts were friendly and communicative. Thank you for a great stay!
Nice place, close to many attractions in Venus Bay. In need of a little maintenance but as far as holiday houses go down there it was quite comfortable and convenient. Great place for a couple of families to holiday together!
fantastic location in a quiet cul de sac, the house was spacious and low maintenance with a great wrap around balcony. An easy 10 minute walk to the beautiful beach #4. Would definitely stay again.
The Pickled Pipi was the perfect place to break the Melbourne Lockdown. Storms tried their best to get in the way but the power came back on as I was unloading the car. I found a wonderful gift and note on the kitchen bench to welcome us and our dog. The log fire was very cosy and location for evening beach walks was perfect. Thanks for keeping in touch to make sure our stay went off without a hitch.
Hope to stay at the Pickled Pipi again very soon.
Really enjoyed our time at the house. Close to all the beaches and local shops, heaps of games for the kids and quite happy there was no wifi as the kids played without screens and were happy to explorer. Kitchen was very well equipped as was the rest of the house. Could not find the wombat though so we guessed it was hibernating. Thanks for having us.
We had a wonderful stay the property was everything we hoped for and more
Fabulous
Great location
Perfect house with loads of character and room
Everything worked
Wi-fi was the only drawback very weak connection but that was not a bad thing as everyone put their tech away and relaxed
comfortable well designed house with room for a large family
Kitchen was great , bedrooms to accomodate large family group , loads of games
Video player does not work- we tried but played cards til late which was much more fun.
A long way to shops and patrolled beach but quiet and comfortable .
This beautiful property was not done justice by the photos. Our hopes were exceeded by the fabulous layout, facilities and privacy. Beach access very easy 5 min drive & what a beach!! Loved our stay despite the weather.

Thank You Sara
I would not hesitate for any owner to have Sara stay at their place and welcome her back at the Pickled Pipi
We had a fabulous couple of weeks at the Pickled Pippi. The kitchen and dining set-up is fantastic - it's like a kitchen at home with all the gear rather than your standard holiday accommodation with never enough of anything - we cooked up a storm! Really spacious house nestled in the trees, short walk to beach no 5 and you can fall asleep listening to the waves. David and Susan were very accommodating, thanks for sharing your wonderful home!
Our family has stayed at many properties in Venus Bay over the years but none have offered as many beds as the Pickled Pipi. Instructions for the property were clear, communications speedy and the place well appointed for our 2 week stay, including accommodating our dog. Recommended!
Stayed at the Pipi for the week of Christmas. Lovely house with plenty of space and everything that you could ever need including an extensive and fun book collection. Kids loved surfing at the local beaches and digging in the sand. Parents loved sitting by the fire and enjoying a local Pinot! Lovely quiet area with very few people around for the week we were in town. Would definitely stay again!

Why they chose this property
We love to come to Venus Bay whenever we can to enjoy the peace, serenity and the natural wonders of the area. We love summers on the beach but probably prefer the cooler months relaxing by the wood heater and cool morning walks on the Point Smythe Nature Trail.
What makes this property unique
The Pickled Pipi is a spacious house with a central open plan living area that has a warm inviting feel with it's wood paneling throughout the house and wood heater for the cooler months. There is a large dining table that seats 10. Surrounding the house are native tea trees shielding the property from the neighbours and proving a natural environment for our feathered friends. The outdoor decking area is expansive and wonderful for Summer entertaining and star gazing at night!
