About this property
Big Beautiful House in Brownstone Brooklyn with outdoor space and lots of charm
Welcome to our spacious and sunny Brooklyn house! Our 3 bedroom house has so much to offer, including a few surprises -- monkey bars, a workout room, a driveway, and a tucked away bedroom! Located in vibrant Clinton Hill, it's a convenient base for exploring and a great place to unwind with your family.
Built at the turn of the century, our house has old charm and new comforts. Built over three floors, it's colorful and comfortable. There is a lot of art throughout the house -- from a Coney Island sideshow banner, a lithograph by Thomas Hart Benton, and lots of works made by our friends and students. Original architectural details such as grand carved mahagony entrance doors, original ceiling plasterwork, huge pocket doors and marble mantlepieces are found throughout the house. There are also modern comforts and efficiencies. There is high speed wi-fi throughout the house, a desktop computer for your use, and a large flat screen with cable. Solar panels on the roof generate the electricity to keep you cool on hot days with newly installed ductless air conditioners adjustable in each room. A Capital range with 6 burners and a double oven make cooking for large groups easy. A Miehle diswasher and Electrolux washer and dryer make every day tasks a little simpler.
The house has a unique layout -- with many places for relaxing or playing, both inside and out. You can settle in on our front porch while you sit in our glider and watch the neighborhood go by. Or you can relax in our beautiful backyard. The backyard is tricked out for kids -- a turf play area, monkey bars, and a separate swing keep the kids busy. But the backyard works for grownups too. The landscaping is pretty and calming. You can eat at our big and bold wood table under a pergola strung with lights and wine bottle candles. Or you can sit in comfy Adirondack chairs and relax with a book and a glass of wine. There's more than enough seating on a stack stone wall around the perimeter.
There are three big bedrooms in the house. The master bedroom on the main floor has a queen bed, ample storage in dressers, a walk-in cedar closet, desk, and gorgeous views to the backyard. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom has a queen bed, and a bunk bed with a trundle. The other bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. Linens and bedding are new and comfortable. The bathroom on this floor is super fun and notable for it's pink clawfoot tub!
The main floor of the house has a double parlor off from the front entrance. There is a sitting area with a comfortable couch and stylish chairs. Or you can lounge on another couch and watch tv. The master bath on this floor is between parlor and master bedroom. It has a walk in shower, separate tub, and a lot of space.
Downstairs is the hub of the house -- the kitchen, playroom, and access to the backyard. There's seating for 8-10 around a big table and a loveseat for hanging out before or after eating. The kitchen has lots of light and fun views of the backyard. Also in the basement is a study with desktop and printer, a laundry room, a half bath, and a playroom (which has another bed and monkey bars built into the ceiling). Access to the backyard and a Precor elipitcal machine in the garage is through a side porch in the kitchen.
Layout: (we are the owners and have two rental units above our unit. All occupants of the house share the front porch and the foyer. There is a grand staircase up to the tenants' apartments and a separate entrance from the foyer into our unit. Separate, and a bit creaky, staircases in the back of the house bring you up and down to our parts of the house from the parlor floor. Locked doors separate our apartment from the others.)
Ground floor: entrance foyer with storage; side door leads to double parlor, master bathroom, master bedroom with queen bed; separate staircase leads downstairs to kitchen and upstairs to bedrooms
Downstairs: Kitchen, study, laundry room, half bathroom, playroom with queen bed; access to backyard and garage workout space
Top floor: one bedroom (queen bed, bunk beds and trundle with twin mattresses), second bedroom (queen bed and twin bed), bathroom with clawfoot tub and hand-held shower fixture
Getting around from our house is easy. Park in our driveway and never have to worry about finding a parking spot or following complicated street rules! We are super close to all kinds of transportation. The C and G subway lines are a 5 minute walk away, which gives easy and quick access to Manhattan (20 minutes to lower Manhattan) or other Brooklyn neighborhoods. There's a Citibike dock on our corner, which makes renting a bike and touring the city really convenient. Our house straddles the hip and historic neighborhoods of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy, which are full of great restaurants and bars, fun stores, great architecture, and many characters! Fort Greene is an easy walk, as are many of the cultural attractions of Brooklyn -- the Brooklyn Museum, Olmsted's Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Botanic Gardens.
Our house is a really fun and homey space. We love it here -- as do our five children. We think it's the ideal place for an adventure, and we can't wait to share it with you.

We are both educators in NYC public schools. We love living in Brooklyn and raising our 5 children here. In the summers, we travel or spend time visiting family, which is why our house is free.
