About this property

AvoStay Cottage - peaceful orchard setting at Maungatapere

This sunny, warm cottage is situated in an avocado orchard a short drive from Whangarei city. It is surrounded by lush green fruit trees and native plantings, providing a quiet, relaxing environment away from the urban hustle. The self-contained cottage is modern and offers all the conveniences of a motel but with the added extras of peace and privacy. A large wooden deck runs the length of the cottage and overlooks a lawn and the orchard beyond. Kereru (wood pigeons) and tui regularly fly overhead from treetop to treetop and many other bird varieties can be seen among the trees. It's not uncommon to hear the call of the pukeko and to spot rabbits bouncing around the cottage.
AvoStay Cottage is situated about 2km from Maungatapere township which has a service station, convenience store, cafe, art gallery, hairdressers, massage salon, general hardware and post office. Guests can enjoy day trips to the Kauri forests near Dargaville or to the picturesque Bay of Islands and the region's many spectacular beaches and fishing spots.

Having lived in Northland most of our lives, we appreciate everything that it has to offer, particularly enjoying the many bush walks and coastal activities. We have lived at Maungatapere for 17 years.

Why they chose this property

AvoStay was purpose built early in 2018, so it is modern and fresh inside and out. Situated away from the main house, the cottage has a separate driveway making it very private. Wifi is free and all linen is provided. Totally self-contained.

What makes this property unique

The view from the front of the cottage is vey tranquil and calming. During the day you look across the lawn to the avocado orchard and trees beyond. On a clear evening, the night sky is spectacular, with no streetlights to interfere with star gazing. The dawn chorus is a delight to wake up to and during the day, you'll be entranced by the number of native tui, fantails and kereru that enjoy the mostly native plantings.
