AvoStay Cottage - peaceful orchard setting at Maungatapere
This sunny, warm cottage is situated in an avocado orchard a short drive from Whangarei city. It is surrounded by lush green fruit trees and native plantings, providing a quiet, relaxing environment away from the urban hustle. The self-contained cottage is modern and offers all the conveniences of a motel but with the added extras of peace and privacy. A large wooden deck runs the length of the cottage and overlooks a lawn and the orchard beyond. Kereru (wood pigeons) and tui regularly fly overhead from treetop to treetop and many other bird varieties can be seen among the trees. Guests can enjoy day trips to the Kauri forests near Dargaville or to the picturesque Bay of Islands and the region's many spectacular beaches and fishing spots.

Annika's family were great guests during their short stay. They provided arrival details and were respectful of our property. Very happy to recommend to future hosts.
A well-presented property in a semi-rural location
A great property, in lovely semi-rural location. It was well-worth booking a vacation there. Good value for money. Less than 15km to central Whangarei.
Beautiful quiet setting surrounded by greenery. Modern spacious cottage equipped with everything you might need. A short drive to the many attractions of Whangarei. Friendly hosts. One of the nicest places we’ve stayed in.
We only stayed one night but it was perfect for us. Wonderful quiet location with beautiful sunset peaking through the orchard. Everything one would need for a stay…open plan, all modern amenities and topped off with a great deck outside. A perfect place to relax. Easy drive to town. I would highly recommend this cosy cottage.

Thank you Margaret. Our aim is to provide guests with a peaceful and unique setting where they can rest for a night or two. So we're glad the cottage provided just that for your stay.
Lovely clean, fully equipped, new cottage. Warm home and comfortable beds, great water pressure in the shower. A destination in its self for anyone wanting a restful place to stay or only a short drive to Whangarei township. Great covered deck overlooking a charming developing garden space.

So pleased you enjoyed the garden and orchard outlook from the deck. It was our pleasure to host you both.
Beautiful place to visit, you'll leave your problems behind in this avocado oasis. Was perfect for our 7 monther aswel, great big flat lawn. Comfy firm bird, kitchen had all the bits. We'll be back!
This property was one of the best we have stayed in for our month driving trip to NZ. The host is definitely a Premier Host as we were provided with various extras throughout our stay, including fresh milk in the fridge, an ample supply of towels to choose from, a very comfortable bed, good furniture, a kitchen with extras which helped with our food prep, and a beautiful garden vista. This location was an easy drive to our next day’s visit to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and a scenic trip from Auckland. Highly recommend this lovely out of the way property if you have a car.
This lovely quiet cottage is very clean and well -appointed. It's off the beaten track, so you must take care and follow the hosts directions and signs, but that's also the wonderful charm of the place. I only gave it 4 stars for location just in case you wanted to be closer to the action, but then you wouldn't be looking at a farm property, right? Very friendly and communicative hosts rounded out a great stay.
The most beautiful little cottage in picturesque surroundings. The cottage was clean, very well equipped and cosy. Great amenities. An exceptional peaceful and charming property set amongst an avocado orchard. The hosts, Karen and Grant are amazing people who make their guest feel at home. Our stay unfortunately clashed with cyclone Gabrielle and Karen and Grant could not have been more accommodating by letting us stay extra days and ensuring that we were safe and well. They supplied everything in a time of meed and we will be forever grateful for their kindness and friendship. A wonderful place to stay in the country but without being too far to Whangārei. A great find and we will return. Karen & Family
Very quiet and relaxing holiday stay being only 15 mins or so to the CBD. Property was very well equipped, modern fittings yet homely and clean with plenty of room too.
Owners were very friendly and with good communication and flexible allowing us to change our dates without hassle due to the Auckland travel restrictions.
Would highly recommend.
The location is totally rural, so no traffic noise. "great" !
The route to the property on highway '14' from Whangarei
Was much better than the alternative on '15'.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Clearwater
Having lived in Northland most of our lives, we appreciate everything that it has to offer, particularly enjoying the many bush walks and coastal activities. We have lived at Maungatapere for 17 years.
Why they chose this property
AvoStay was purpose built early in 2018, so it is modern and fresh inside and out. Situated away from the main house, the cottage has a separate driveway making it very private. Wifi is free and all linen is provided. Totally self-contained.
What makes this property unique
The view from the front of the cottage is vey tranquil and calming. During the day you look across the lawn to the avocado orchard and trees beyond. On a clear evening, the night sky is spectacular, with no streetlights to interfere with star gazing. The dawn chorus is a delight to wake up to and during the day, you'll be entranced by the number of native tui, fantails and kereru that enjoy the mostly native plantings.
