About this property
Art studio loft apartment in Woodstock
This centrally located apartment and functional art studio in vibrant artistic Woodstock is fully equipped to have your holiday in or to do a creative project. It has recently been extensively renovated and is quite comfortable with new fittings, much art and some antiques, and a part view of table mountain. Even if you are not in the arts it is a unique and creative option because this is trendy Woodstock and it is only 20 min walk from the centre, 10 min drive to the beach or the many hikes in woods of the Table mountain range!
The space;
The studio is a 110 meter square (1200 square foot) first floor open space with a high ceiling of 3.4 m (11 feet), very large french windows and 4 huge walls to work on if you are a painter. The indirect southern light is perfect and the floor has a beautiful but practical finish. I installed blank-out blinds for photographic shoots.
It features a large new ensuite bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with good appliances and crockery. Next to the kitchen is a large 6 seater solid wood dining table. A bedroom with a good queen sized bed and good linen is in the main space, and a washing machine in the washroom. The apartment has everything that is necessary for a comfortable stay. There is also a wooden deck outside to relax in, with sun around midday. It is situated on the main street but the large front windows are soundproof glass so the noise level is not high.
The neighbourhood;
The studio is convenient to all the activities on offer in Cape Town; just 20 minutes walk to the city centre and a 10 minute drive to the beach. Woodstock is home to the famous Biscuit Mill Neighbour goods market which buzzes on a Saturday morning, and is a 10 minute walk from the apartment. It is also home to a wide range of restaurants, including the award winning Test Kitchen and Pot Luck Club for fine dining, Star Dust for fantastic live entertainment with your meal, and lots of choice for "cheap eats". You can check out the book shops, vintage stores, coffee shops and other unusual places of interest, and if craft distilleries and breweries are your thing, you should stop by the Devil’s Peak Brewery or The Taproom.
Staying in Woodstock gives the visitor a real sense of inner-city living, whilst positioning one close to the city centre, with its bustling Long Street, the museums, galleries, trendy Kloof Street and the V&A Waterfront. Table Mountain looms in the background and one has a sense of the city as it really is.
Woodstock is known as the most culturally active and vibrant suburb of Cape Town, with many diverse creative industries such as art studios, film, photography, furniture and fashion studios, music, design and digital create companies. Most of the highly regarded galleries in Cape Town are 5 minutes walk from the studio and there are many openings that you can attend, and with Cape Town's best known artists as your direct neighbours on each side you are bound to meet them and get some great info. The street culture is world renowned since Woodstock is partly gentrified and partly living suburb for locals, as well as small creative industries, so there is much interesting graffiti and an exotic mix of people, food, colour.
Accessibility
The studio is possibly in the most accessible location in the whole of Cape town. Woodstock is at the "neck" between the Atlantic and the Indian ocean and exactly at the junction between all directions and suburbs, the city centre, the Atlantic, the wine route. From this convenient location you may go in either direction by whatever means of transport you choose. By car the main highway is 250 m away. Both the very efficient municipal Citibuses and also the private mini buses run in front of the building in any direction and the train station is 1 block away. Ordering private taxis or Uber is easy and affordable. There are biking lanes in front of the building and you can walk anywhere from there as well. Parking is free around the building and monitored by cameras, and there is paid parking across the road.
Guest access;
You can access the whole studio space and outside stairs and deck via the main communal entrance that leads up stairs, via an entrance hall to 3 art studios on the same floor. There is also a private entrance in the main road, with an entrance upstairs via double wooden french doors. The security is very high since there is 24/7 visual monitoring and response on both entrances and around the building, as well as inside in the hall.

I am in Amsterdam whilst letting my studio but have people there who will assist you with all your needs. I have a trusted assistant Zanathi who will open for you during regular weekday hours and welcome you. We have a really active community of artists in Woodstock and my neighbours on both sides are accomplished professional artists who show in Cape Town and abroad. You are bound to meet them and it is welcomed that you do. I would be happy to assist you, introduce you and help you network.
Other things to note
I let my studio whilst i am in Amsterdam for half the year, for 2 x 3 month periods. I am interested in having other artists work there and meet the local artists and network. There is a huge community and much going on and it is well worth the consideration to rent for an extended period and do a project there. Whether you need to do a shoot, paint or draw or need to do a project or internship in Cape town you could consider staying for longer periods.
