About the host
Hosted by Virginia

Hi, I'm your host - Virginia! An expat of Canadian origins, I am blessed to live atop one of the highest hills in the city of Montego Bay and enjoy amazing views of mountains, the city, sea, and especially sunsets! I identify as a hippie, a peacenik, and I'm also an experienced "herbalist"! I grew up in rural NB, Canada and originally moved to the island in 2002 after stereo-typically falling in love with a Rasta while on vacation. The romantic relationship did not endure but my love affair with Jamaica continues to grow! I am still enamored with the Rastafari culture as well, and have many Rasta friends and "links".
I am a work-from-home freelance communication specialist and dabble in everything from creating business documents to editing theatrical scripts. Mine is a humble life and for the most part I live among the locals like one of them. I moved into my current home late 2015 and am eager to share it - and the island - with culturally curious travelers from around the world!
As a host, my goal is to cater to my guests' individual needs, whether that means total privacy; becoming your new BFF; cooking for you; being your guide; helping you understand the local dialect (Patois/"Patwa") or sharing my knowledge of things to do, how to get there, where to find the best deals; etc! Just let me know what you want to learn/experience and I will due my best to help you succeed! I offer set tours, including "Intro to RouteTaxis/Downtown" (a must for budget conscious); & EcoTours: "Rural Hills Life!" and "MarketDay & More!" or can tailor one just for you.
I love people, food, music, art, entertainment, nature and especially all things multicultural. My life motto is to share every positive thought or action that comes to me - there is enough negativity in the world and I am determined to combat it by spreading the positive whenever I can!
And BTW, Bob Marley got it right when he sang about the "Natural Mystic" of Jamaica. Come, "feel it in the air"!
ONE LOVE!!!

Why they chose this property
Located in an older luxury hotel which has been converted to condos, the rental studio is adjacent to my own apartment, so I am on-hand to help you with anything you need; but I'm also very mindful of your space and privacy! The studio includes a private entrance; small hallway; full bathroom with shower, hot water; private space on the extended, shared verandah; and a large main room with ample closet space, built-in shelves, and a safe. Features are a queen size bed with quality, double pillow-top mattress; kitchenette with fridge (separate freezer), small appliances (microwave/toaster/tea kettle), a Melitta coffee brew cone and essentials to prepare simple meals.
A table, chairs, a lounger and ashtray equip the breezy balcony for eating, view-gazing, sun-worshiping and smoking, respectively. Grounds are very well lit and the entire unit is screened and grilled for your comfort and security. There are common seating areas outside including a bench under a mango tree, and a free parking lot. The grounds have fabulous mature fruit trees, plams and a variety of flowers. Watch the birds and listen to their songs throughout the day, and in the evening enjoy the harmony of crickets and frogs. Just a 5 minute drive from the city center, this location is still a treat for nature lovers!
Host interaction with guests is totally up to you. Unless you have an issue, you need never see me if that is your preference. Alternatively you want to hang out and get to know me; hear what I've learned about the country, culture and people in my many years here; have me cook (or learn to cook) an authentic Jamaican meal - or even have me act as your paid tour guide, all is possible based on my availability.
