About this property

Cozy house in Rio Dulce!

Welcome to the wonderful Rio Dulce area! A river running from Lake Izabal to the Caribbean, in eastern Guatemala. The river itself is marvelous, with amazing flora, fauna and tall cliffs. In the area, there are many interesting sites, among them: Livingston - an interesting town populated by the Garifuna people-, El Estor, Castillo de San Felipe and much more.

Our house is located in this paradise. It is inside a condo with security, near San Felipe Castle. It has a swiming pool, it is fully equipped. It has capacity to accommodate up to 12 people.

The location of our house is unique. It is close to many tourist sites and attractions. There is a housekeeper who is going to welcome you. He is to be on-call if you need further assistance o have questions.

During the rainy season, there are strong rainstorms that can affect the electricity service provided by a public company. Four bedrooms are inside the house with a capacity of 12 guests. There are two bungalows outside the house with toilettes with a capacity of four additional guests (A total of 16 guests can sleep at our property).

Pros: The neighborhood is beautiful. You're in a gated community, you need to give the owner your drivers license number and license plate to give the gate attendant to let you in. Next, it's a less than a five minute walk to the water where you can ask private boats to come pick you up at, so no need to go the public dock. There is a hotel at the end of the neighborhood called, Hotel Mansion del Rio, would recommend for any meal. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. For the cons: First off the photos were deceiving, the house is falling apart. The house wasn't cleaned before we got there. There was trash in the trash cans, the floors were dirty, rat droppings on floors, and there were ants everywhere. There was mold in most bedrooms, which they've tried to paint over. There's plaster falling from the ceilings inside and out. Most windows had holes in their wire mesh panels which let in SO MANY MOSQUITOES. I informed the owner of this but she did not reply. The doors also had gaps in between the floor so mosquitoes were getting in that way as well as rats. We saw rats in the kitchen which ate some bread and food we left out. They didn't leave supplies to clean up after ourselves, no rags, paper towels, or sponges for dishes. We asked for them but they didn't bring them. The house is close to the main road; cars were loud most nights making it hard to sleep. The pool is dated and falling apart. The refrigerator leaked water on the floor. Overall I wouldn't come back.
