About this property

GUS's PLACE...Unwind with a TRIP to the PAST in this CABIN built in 1865.

This is just the cutest little cabin that was the original homeplace for this property back in 1865. We both love LONESOME DOVE so we named this cabin for GUS. (We built a two bedroom "CLARA'S CABIN" at the other end of the property. Both are very private and have their own sense of a peaceful getaway.)

It has been updated in keeping with respect for both its age and our modern needs. The kitchen boasts a new stainless GE gas stove/oven and a stainless GE fridge. It has a porcelain farm sink and the floors....while not old....are stained to match the old plank flooring in the rest of the house. There is a comfy living room with a fireplace and DirecTV and fantastic stained glass pieces done by widely acclaimed stained glass artist, Pat Williams.

The bedroom has a queen size bed and off this bedroom in the front is a reading room/bunk room with a bunk for ONE extra person...although this little house is more comfortable for one or two people. We can also provide a cot or a Pack N Play if given advance notice that you are bringing a small child.

The bathroom has a slate tile floor and slate tile shower with stained glass in the window of the shower and above the sink. There is a washer and dryer in the event that you need those items. We supply a hair dryer and linens and towels for your needs. We also supply shampoo, soaps, Tide, charcoal for grilling, etc., just like your home. We stock the pantry with condiments and other foodstuffs for your use.

There is a lovely patio in the back with a couple of tables and chairs and patio furniture with an umbrella. We have a hot tub (PLEASE...NO LOTIONS AT ALL ON YOUR BODIES IN THE HOT TUB.) There is a fire pit for your enjoyment and we generally have wood out there for it. . There is also a propane fired grill for your outdoor cookouts!

Whatever you would like to use at the Little House, please feel free to do so.
AND....if you love fresh farm eggs feel free to go into the chicken coop and get some fresh eggs and in the garden behind the little chicken coop, you can pluck some fresh veggies whenever the garden yields its crops.

Our newest dog addition, Lilly the blue eyed husky, will usually camp out under the Little House just to keep cool.

It is just a lovely little cabin. Please enjoy yourself! You can text me at 936-645-6101

What a wonderful, tranquil stay. It was so comfortable, and restful, watching fireflies at sunset, and coffee at day break on the porch. We will be staying again.

Magical experience

I never leave reviews but i felt compelled to leave one for this stay. My Fiance and i had an absolutely amazing time. The house was very cute and welcoming, there are fireflies in the area and Nacogdoches in general was great, everyone was so friendly and kind. The property manager was extremely gracious and helpful as well. You won’t regret staying here!

Gus’s Cabin

Gus’s cabin was a step back into time with a touch of modern comforts. Very peaceful!! We enjoyed our visit to the cabin with a starry night in the hot tub and great eats at Cleat Springs restaurant. The bed was very comfortable and a glass of wine by the fireplace while watching our favorite movie “Lonesome Dove” made for a great quiet get away for my husbands birthday.

25th Anniversary

We stayed in Gus's cabin for our 25th anniversary. It was perfect. Marcia was a wonderful host. The cabin was clean, cozy and just what we were looking for. We loved getting fresh eggs from the coup for our breakfast. The hot tub in the evening was wonderful. The property was beautiful and quiet. Downtown Nacogdoches is quaint with lots of history. Dolli's Diner is a must for breakfast. We will be back

Lovely stay away from the city

What a peaceful getaway! Such a unique cabin surrounded by country living ... We also had Sadie (dog) and kitty as our tour guides! I LOVE animals, so that was a plus!! Ms. Marcia and her husband were so accommodating; they really made sure we were good the whole stay .. This stay was exactly what my boyfriend and I needed.. Some peace and quiet, away from the city..

Beautiful private cabin for a getaway

This cabin was the perfect place for a short getaway for my wife and me. We love the location near Nacogdoches, and we loved that it was just far enough from town to be private. We had a couple of suggestions to make it a little better for those who might be paranoid about privacy. Add curtains to the living room and kitchen windows. Also, you could add a screen around the hot tub area. Other than that, the place was perfect.

Beautifully Quiet!

Let me start by saying, the pictures of this property don’t do it justice. As beautiful as I thought it was online, it’s so much better in person. It’s also so wonderfully quiet. Even the chickens are quiet, and they are absolutely the cleanest, most non-smelly chickens I have ever seen! The property was just lovely, and Marcia very responsive for the couple of small issues we had during our stay. She also made a spot-on recommendation about The Cottage Wine Bar. We LOVED it and can’t wait to get back to Nac to go again. Another place we really enjoyed was Maklemore’s for dinner. The service and food were wonderful. This was a fantastic place with a very nice and helpful owner, and we’d love to visit again, if she’ll have us.

Coffee with the cows

I am a country gal and I could not have stayed at a more relaxing, peaceful place out in the country. Awesome communication with Marcia, quick and helpful. Perfect directions and details. Check-in was seamless with all details provided to accomplish. A gated property so I felt very safe. Sadie is HUGE and put up with all my attention just fine. Home is equipped with every basic need except your food of course. I loved every little detail about this place....especially the bed! It rained and hailed while I was there and on a tin roof, it completed the whole TX experience. If you have a need to stay in the area, THIS is the place to stay!! I will book it agian if I am!

We have lived on and loved this wonderful property since 2000. It is just the perfect spot being 2.5 miles from town and yet on 25+ acres of beautiful hardwoods. We both love the outdoors and this place allows us to enjoy the close proximity of town and the peace that is found in the country. My husband grew up in Levelland, Texas on a farm and loves the pastures as well as the woods surrounding us out here. We always have a few cows in one of the adjoining pastures and we enjoy them as well as the gardens and the chicks. Of course we have a wonderful dog or two always and our little farm cat wandering about. (We LOVE our animals but we DO NOT welcome them into the house.)
I grew up in West Texas also... Amarillo to be exact, and really enjoy our little Casita (and the main house which is a bit like a large treehouse)! We have a barn with a kitchen and music studio and of course work space for the farm stuff! Out in the back of the big house is a "Brew Kitchen" where my husband makes incredible craft beers from time to time..

Why they chose this property

Hi! I'm Marcia. I have been a VRBO host for seven years and our portfolio of vacation rentals includes three properties now and another soon to be open. We manage every detail of our homes and are 100% involved in all aspects of the entire process. We maintain 'Premier' status throughout our hosting, and we score within the top 1% of all vacation rental hosts. We do this by valuing our guests and understanding what's important to them. (Like supplying almost EVERYTHING BUT your groceries in all of our homes! We have been to too many rental homes that did not even have toilet paper, paper towels, or coffee, soaps, shampoo, condiments, etc. We want you to enjoy your vacation and feel that you are home and NOT in a rental.) Our guests appreciate a professionally cleaned home on each visit. Our guests also appreciate our quick, communication response times throughout the rental process - from the booking to the stay. We are passionate about hosting and take great pride in ensuring our guests have a great experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! If you are a returning guest, please inquire about special pricing for returning guests.
We live 1/4 mile up a winding driveway high on a hill. We are gone a good bit and may or may not be at home when you arrive. BUT you will be WELL CARED FOR! You can reach me at (a telephone number that this site will not give out until booking) if you need me. Be advised....I am NOT a mechanic, electrician, or carpenter (but I can usually locate them!). I am grandmother named KUKU who loves to have folks over to enjoy a leap back in time.....I will do whatever I can to make your stay memorable.

What makes this property unique

Since we bought this property we have added the barn with an apartment in it, and Clara's Cabin, as well as updating Gus's Place. We "vacation" there when we can't find the time to get away. Sitting on the front porch, looking out at the cows in the pasture to the left or gathering eggs for breakfast or just relaxing make this a very, very special get away. Come see your college kid or just enjoy fishing at one of the area lakes or take in the many historical landmarks in "The Oldest Town in Texas". Relax at a wonderful, personal little cabin that is a quaint bit of history and leave totally refreshed and relaxed.
I think you will love it as we do.....
