In 1597, by the order of King Sho Nei, a stone road was built connecting Urasoe Fortress with Shuri Castle. At that time, Ahacha Bridge, also called Rainbow Bridge, was built. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, this was a major road, thronged with people carrying goods and documents between the two places. It is said that the kings also used this road when they went to pray at the Futenmagu Shrine. Ahacha Bridge refers to the southern bridge spanning the Kowan River, which flows through the valleys of Kyozuka and Ahacha, and the north bridge that spans the Abuchi River. They are both beautiful stone arch bridges. The light filtering down between the Ryukyu pines draws beautiful patterns on the stone road, making you feel the romance of the area's history.
