The Inn at Croftville Road Cottages #6. On the Shore of Lake Superior.

Located only 40 feet from Lake Superior's beach is the Inn at Croftville Road Cottages. This unique and newly crafted building with tall multiple gabled peaks houses 5 vacation suites all with private exterior entrances. The Inn at Croftville Road Cottages #6 provides the gentle sound of breaking waves hitting the shore and spectacular views of Superior. It is designed with romance in mind. This is a smaller one room walk-out ground level vacation suite right next to Lake Superior. One enters this suite from a lakeside patio with comfortable outdoor furniture and then steps up onto a covered entry porch. The room features a king bed centered on the romantic wood fireplace. The king bed can be separated into 2 twin beds upon request. There is a wing back chair and ottoman you can sink into to enjoy the fire. There is also a dinette in the bay window facing the lake. The suite is equipped with firewood, a smart TV and DVD player mounted above the mantle, and a radio/CD player. The spa tub is near the rear of the suite just outside the bathroom but still with a view of the lake as you soak and relax in the tub. Although this is a smaller suite, it nevertheless has a full size and well equipped kitchen in the rear. This four season inn suite is open all year and has wireless internet access. An artesian well provides excellent water for drinking. The Inn at Croftville Road Cottages #6 sleeps up to 2 people with all linens provided.

Rates and Policies:
• Longer stays are better for us as hosts. Many hosts simply require 3 night minimum stays. However, we choose to accept 1 or 2 night short stays but charge more for short stays.
• There is a 20% discount for 7 or more night stays. This discounted rate is included in your original quote when you request a 7 or more night stay.
• We have a 2 night minimum stay on weekends and a 3 night minimum stay on holidays and special events.
• We have no cleaning fee. Our cleaning costs are figured into our nightly rates. We do charge for extra guests.
• We are required to collect 12.375% in state and local sales taxes. All of these show up as sales taxes on your quote/bill.
• As hosts, we pay a 5% commission to Vrbo. This has been included in our pricing and will not show up on your quote/bill.

Croftville Road Cottages is owned and operated by Teresa and Mike Chmelik who live on-site. The inviting and romantic suites and cottages are impeccably clean and meticulously maintained. Croftville Road Cottages offers an experience reminiscent of days past when small mom and pop resorts were found all along the North Shore. However, the luxurious inn suites and cozy cottages are among the finest vacation rentals along Lake Superior. Croftville Road Cottages is conveniently located just 3 miles from downtown Grand Marais on the lakeside of scenic Croftville Road known by locals as the "walking road".

Good Vibes on the North Shore

The multi-level home was beautiful. Clearly much care was taken in all the choices for guests. The kitchen was fairly well stocked, only lacking a variety of spices. We had a fire in the fire place daily and listened to the waves of the lake from our room. We thoroughly enjoyed the get-away and will come back in the future.

Magical weekend!

Our stay in Suite #6 of was magical! It was adorable in pictures so our expectations were high, but the property easily met and exceeded expectations! King bed was comfortable, in-floor radiant heat worked remarkably well, the patio overlooking the lake was perfection, and you cannot beat being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves of Lake Superior. The whole place was extremely clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. It was the perfect homebase for exploring the north end of the North Shore and we will absolutely be back!

Suite #6 was a really cute and cozy room! Had everything we needed. We brought our dog, & there was even a little basket with bowls, treats, toys, & a blanket! The only downside for me was the access to the lake. It’s a beautiful view, but there’s not a beach that you can easily go and sit to watch & listen to the waves. You walk down the steps to the lake, but then have to maneuver around all the rocks. Which I did, cuz that lake is mesmerizing, lol! Luckily I had family staying in another location who had a nice beach! Other than that, it was a great place to stay!

Winter wonderland

The unit is exceptionally clean! It’s like being at your own home. There is easy access down to the lake. The kitchen is nicely equipped. Jacuzzi is a plus. It is a quick two miles into Hrand Marais. No cable TV. No phone service for AT$T users, but WiFi was exceptionally fast. I have already referred this unit to three other couples. We will stay here again.

Teresa and Mike Chmelik are the owners and operators of Croftville Road Cottages. They live in the owners quarters of their inn. In an era when most mom and pop resorts along Lake Superior are being closed, Teresa and Mike have built Croftville Road Cottages from a former resort property that had been unoccupied for 10 years. At the same time they have raised their children along Lake Superior in a small town setting and kept outside employment to support themselves while building their business. 2018 marks the first year that Croftville Road Cottages has finally fully supported them. They have done as much of the renovations, repairs, and construction as they can themselves. When that has not sufficed, Teresa and Mike have relied on the help of family, friends, and skilled local craftsmen.

Why they chose this property

Teresa and Mike long dreamed of having a resort on Lake Superior. Grand Marais had always been a special place for them. For Teresa, her parents had met as students at the Grand Marais Art Colony in the early 1950's. For Mike, Grand Marais had always been the gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The Chmeliks with the help of their good friends purchased their dream property in July 2003. It was a former resort property unoccupied for 10 years. That summer and fall was spent making the house habitable while living in a borrowed camper trailer until Halloween. The next 3 years were used to clean up the property and extensively renovate the cottages. Croftville Road Cottages opened for business in 2007. In 2011 the Chmeliks decided to reconstruct the house into the main inn for the resort providing living quarters, an office, and 5 vacation suites. In June they bought a travel trailer to live in and serve as an office during the expansion. With a variance granted, the Chmeliks secured financing in June 2013 after the deconstruction and demolition of the old house had already begun. Construction for the inn began in August. The Chmeliks moved into the partially completed inn in October 2016. The first 2 vacation suites in the inn opened in June 2017 and remaining 3 in July 2018.
