How can we serve you? Want to know where we are? We're on Ewa Beach Road. The beach house faces the Pacific Ocean with a view of Mamala Bay to Waikiki and Diamond Head.
Our rental fee of $8400 for 30 nights includes weekly bathroom cleaning, but does not include County and State taxes that amount to an additional 18-19%.
Photos of the property are dated, but we try to maintain the same Hawaiiana aesthetic. The bedspreads change and some appliances change, but the layout of the rooms and basic furniture remains the same.
Cancellation is liberal because we never know if there's going to be another travel problem, shipping strike, illness in the family, or other unplanned event.

Ewa Beach is a great place to launch your tour of the island. We suggest you take a quarter of the island every few days because you'll want to take more time to explore some places or make reservations to return. If you're planning a lot of ocean activity on the south side, please check the Waikiki Aquarium, Box Jellyfish Calendar. Island hopping to tour Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is also very popular.
In business since 1998, we are the most reviewed beach house in our town. Ewa Beach and vicinity doesn't get high ratings for night life, but we have a number of new restaurants from fine dining, ethnic, to slow casual with entertainment nearby.
If you're working remotely or just relaxing and love the ocean and a leisurely pace, Hale Kai Ewa welcomes you with an open floor plan that looks out to the Pacific Ocean. You can enjoy the view of Diamond Head, amazing sunsets, hobie cats bobbing on the ocean, surfers, and relax to the rhythm of the waves.
The trade winds help to keep the house cool, but for extra comfort, the bedrooms have split AC. The bonus room does not have AC.
The roof of the lanai shades the length of the house for enjoyable outdoor dining. If you must work, you can have your zoom meeting on Puuloa Beach with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The adjacent patio within a retaining wall is open to the full sun for your morning coffee and barbequing with sauces or grilling for crispy, charred, caramelized goodness and those picture-perfect grill marks.
The lawn is our green spot that leads to Puuloa Beach and the Pacific Ocean. It's a great spot to read, sunbathe, or have a cool thirst quencher while taking in the salt air. The naupaka hedge is a soothing green wall.
The kitchen is equipped with microwave, Breville toaster oven, Corelle dishware, glassware, cookware, coffee pot, blender, and other small appliances.
The bedrooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. Enough said!
Need help? I'm nearby--just down the driveway. Hope to see you soon.

Note: Smoking is not permitted on the property and the State does not allow smoking on the beach. More than 2 million cigarette buts can be found on our coastal shores on one day of cleanup. Food wrappers and containers are often ingested by aquatic animals and birds to die of starvation. We need to step up and help our environment to be able to continue to be the paradise everyone enjoys.
Thank you for your understanding and your effort to help Mother Nature.

We enjoyed our two week stay in Ewa Beach. Karen and Gary were great and met any needs we had on the property. They also let us enjoy the limes and dragon fruit growing on the property.
Wonderful host, so helpful, great property, perfect view!

Thank you for choosing Hale Kai Ewa. I wish all my guests are as flexible as you. Hope to see you soon. Aloha, Karen in Ewa Beach watching the waves and waiting for my ship to come in.
Karen and her husband were incredible hosts! The house is very quiet, clean and well equipped for everything you might need for a stay at the beach. I really enjoyed visiting with Karen, learning about plants, and learning about the neighborhood. Thank you Karen for a wonderful stay!
We had an amazing time at Karen and Gary’s place. We loved every second of our stay. From Karen’s friendliness and warmheartedness, to the most amazing views and sounds of the ocean, and the absolute cleanliness and perfectly equipped kitchen — we felt like we were on holiday in a place that felt like home. We cannot recommend staying in Ewa Beach enough! It truly stole our hearts. Thank you, Karen, for everything.P.S.: We loved watching all the birds in the garden.
We spent a month in this clean and updated gem right on the water in Ewa Beach and loved it. We will be back!

We enjoyed your visit too. It's nice to see people returning to their roots and discovering a whole new adventure.
Aloha,
Karen in Ewa Beach
Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Property was just feet from the ocean. Comfy beds with three bedrooms. Internet TV with a dvd and loads of disc’s available. Well stocked kitchen.
This place ticked all of our boxes for a return trip to Oahu. The quiet location, amenities, and stunning views were everything we wanted. The property was equipped with everything we needed, including a very thorough instruction binder. Karen is a truly gracious host and made us feel welcome the entire time. We felt comfortable and safe in the neighborhood. We would definitely come back here. Don't forget to give her fur babies a few scritches, they'll love you forever. Mahalo!
Karen and Gary were super friendly and hospitable. The home was clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay but the most amazing feature was the views, smells, and sounds of the ocean right in the back of the house. It was beautiful and more
We came as a family to see our son who is stationed in Hawaii. The house worked out perfectly. Plenty of room for all, beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Neighbors were great and owner was Very accommodating and understanding. Would differently recommend to others.
The holiday home is, as described, right by the sea. The facilities also matched the description. We felt at home from the start. The owners, Karen and Gary, welcomed us very warmly. You could turn to them with any questions. We left with a lot of sadness.
The house is right on the ocean, just a few minutes walk from a very nice pond that we can swim. We can feel the ocean wind by just opening the windows. Ewa Beach is quite rocky, so we couldn’t swim much on the very windy days when the waves are very strong, but during the nice days it is nice to swim at the nearby pond. Karen and Gary were very nice to my family. They gave us a tour of the surrounding area and leis when we left. They took care of the problems we had with the house right away, and are genuine caring hosts. I would love to stay with them again.
I can’t even express how wonderful this experience has been. The property is perfect and the hosts have been so kind and welcoming. Karen and Gary have gone above and beyond when it comes to making us feel at home here and I don’t have sufficient words to thank them for everything. The tiny details and thoughtfulness that they have put into the property have added another layer of enjoyment for our family. The kids have had an absolute blast playing on the beach and using the guides to look for local fauna. We definitely plan to come back and spend more time here. This location helped to make some of the most important memories of our lives and we will be forever grateful for that opportunity.

An AMAZING week!
Our family had a wonderful week in Karen's beautiful home! It was even more relaxing than staying at the resorts that we usually frequent. We loved being "at home" in a real Hawaiian neighborhood, yet close to many tourist attractions. Karen supplied everything one could need; from shampoo and beach towels to spices and snorkel equipment. We loved being directly on the water with gorgeous views of Honolulu and Diamond Head. We highly recommend this home to anyone who would like a "true Hawaiian" experience! We hope to return in the future! Mahalo, Karen, for everything!!

Had a great stay!
We had a wonderful time staying at this property. It was right on the ocean & had a great view. The property was clean, well kept & had everything you need. We enjoyed having a cooler & beach chairs to use. There was tons of useful information about the island if you needed any help deciding what you wanted to see. There were ceiling fans in every room which kept the house comfortable. The house is in a neighborhood so you get the feel of real island life but also the noise from having properties close together. We did see a few cockroaches but that was to be expected when in the tropics. Karen does a great job of maintaining the property & was available if we needed anything. A truly great place to stay!!

We enjoyed your adventurous group and hope the rail is finished to help with traffic on your next visit to Hawaii. Yes, birds, bugs, sandcrabs, and the occasional wave breaking on the lawn is all part of living on the sea shore. Mahalo for the great review.
As a first trip to Hawaii with my sister and cousin, we were looking for a cozy place next to the ocean, in a quiet area away from all the tourists. Karen and Gary were very accommodating on our arrival time- we had a 2 hour frustrating experience at the car rental- but the moment we saw our home for the next week, we knew we had chosen the perfect place to stay, all of our previous frustration was forgotten. Seeing the ocean within steps of the home, the large lanai, and the living area with plenty of windows bringing in the breeze and the sound of the waves was breathtaking. We spent mornings and evenings sitting by the ocean watching the sunrise and sunset, the surfers, the view of Honolulu, and the ships coming and going. We especially enjoyed watching the hen and her little chicks nestling in the backyard. We all slept wonderfully, the beds were comfortable, the showers had great water pressure, plenty of bath linens and beach towels, a nicely laid out and equipped kitchen and plenty of space for 3 people. Karen had kindly supplied us with a bag of Kona coffee and came to check on us after a couple of days to see if we needed anything. We absolutely loved our stay and wished we could have extended for a much longer time. Karen and Gary are lovely hosts.

A great vacation home
We rented this home trusting the photos were what was there. It was! The house was fully stocked with everything you would need. There was even a bag of ice in the freezer. Karen & Gary are very nice. Opening and closing the gate and backing out the driveway each day can be challenging if you are not comfortable backing a long driveway. My wife tore her shirt during the first opening and I was worried it was a bad omen, but she did good the other times. The short walk to the beach and open is so nice! We spent a lot of time sitting by the ocean enjoying the relaxing sound. Stairs or a sloped path like the neighbor has really needs to be added for the elderly or overweight folks to get over or up over the 2' rock wall. The beds are firm, but we did ok. The bathrooms both worked great. The master bed is high making it a lift into bed. Each morning in the master bedroom the bird show started each morning at first light. The rooster crowing every 10 seconds and birds cooing. Then at exactly 7 AM the machine gun fire begins at Puuloa Rifle Range followed at 8 AM by Reveille to raise the flag. So we did not get to much sleep. The other bedrooms did not hear these noises. There was supposed to be a computer so we did not bring ours. Then we could not find one and my wife had to punt in doing necessary unemployment work and applying for jobs. I am just pointing out things to consider. We loved the house and being on the ocean. While here we went to Schofield, Dole, North Shore, Iolani Palace, State Capital, wakiki Beach, Diamond Head and Germaine's Luau. Be careful coming back from Honolulu. GPS puts you on H201 which gets you into terrible construction for the tramway. USE H1 WEST! TV's in both rooms work great. We hope to come back someday. Thank you Karen & Gary

Aloha,
Thank you for the great review. It’s nice to get away to the ocean. I’ll insert a note in our guest information page that a laptop is available upon request. Hope to see you again before too long. The next time, a part of the rail system may be up and running!
Aloha,
Karen in Ewa Beach
Everyone enjoyed the stay. It was great to be on the water, see sunrises AND sunsets, not have to eat every meal out, get inside advice about thinks to do and local places to try, etc. I thought I would work more, but I didn’t do any work while my guests were there. Only downside was the driving, but it was a fair trade off with the water, sunrises and sunsets.
Hosts Karen and Gary went above and beyond to sure we had everything we needed to make our month-long stay first rate. The house was spotless and fully stocked with any cleaning products we might have needed. Both sunrise and sunset views were spectacular from our beachfront. We fell asleep each night with the ocean waves. We will dearly miss that! As others have said, the kitchen has been remodeled in sparkling white and so have the bathrooms. We very much enjoyed Karen and Gary's hospitality and their wonderful beach house.
This is the cutest beach house! As a family of 5 adults we had all the space we needed and loved everything about this property. Karen is a gracious host. The location of this house is perfect. Pictures on this listing don’t show the upgrades we enjoyed - all new flooring, kitchen & bathrooms. AC in the bedrooms, large covered patio & fully stocked with everything you could need. The beach is soft sand & the views of Waikiki & Diamond Head are lovely, especially at night. Awesome sunsets too! We will not hesitate to stay here again!
We just got home and miss this place already! It was a perfect little beach bungalow for our family's long vacation. We traveled with our 11 month old triplets and the space was great for us! Beautifully renovated white kitchen with everything you need to cook a few basic meals. Gorgeous, clean, newly renovated bathrooms with shower/tub combos perfect for bathing sandy babies. The bedrooms are smaller but we had plenty of space for our bed and three pack n plays and our friends had no issues with the guest bedroom. We used the bonus room to store luggage, diapers, etc and never felt cramped! The home is beautifully decorated with Hawaiian style furniture and gorgeous textiles/linens. Tons of towels for bathing and the beach. There is AC in the bedrooms which is nice when it gets hot in the middle of the day. We also had fans for the living areas but it definitely gets hot in July/august. The location can't be beat! right on the water! Gorgeous views and the water is super clear. It can get pretty rough but there is a little swimming hole a few houses down. The house is in a mature neighborhood away from downtown Honolulu/Waikiki. But we have been to hawaii many times and wanted something quieter. It was easy to drive anywhere we wanted to go! Karen was a fantastic host! We truly felt at home the entire time we were there. Great communication. Responded quickly to questions or concerns and even remembered our girls' birthday and brought us a delicious haupia and chocolate pie to celebrate!!! Would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back!
We were so happy with everything! It was nice to be away from the hussle and bussle of the city to the nice and quiet of the house. The house was comfy and had everything needed. And that view! Wow! So much more beautiful in person or from the kitchen table eating breakfast! Karen was an amazing host in communicating and showing us the house. It was so nice to have the convenience of the house right on the beach and water. We highly recommend this house and will stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Karen or Gary
Gosh, this is an old picture of me. I used to enjoy pole fishing, and in 2004, my friend talked me into accompanying him on a fishing trip in his 16-foot boat. Dinner was great. Today, at 78, my interests are a lot less physical. I'm learning to age gracefully on Ewa Beach Road.
Why they chose this property
You are on the beach at Ewa Beach with the best view on the island. You can walk miles of natural shoreline, but you may have to cut through some neighborhoods as the island is slowing being built over. Read about Hawaii before you come to get a better understanding of our culture and the places you visit. Be open to new experiences with food and people in our multicultural and unique community.
The weather in Ewa Beach is wonderful. The surf is gentle and the water is safe. Songs have been sung for decades about the Ewa Moon and our pearly shells. This is nature at its best.
What makes this property unique
The sunsets on Ewa Beach are so picturesque and relaxing. The sunrise is awesome. There's a freshness in the air and excitement as the day unfolds with discoveries of shells washed ashore during the night. It's fun to make the first footsteps in the sand.
