About this property

NEW! Cosy 1930's cottage with gorgeous gardens

Welcome to our gorgeous 1930's cottage in the pretty little town of Blackheath. The Artist's Cottage has two cosy bedrooms, a fireplace, balcony, a sprawling garden backing on to the national park and an artist studio (set up for you to use). We have a well-equipped kitchen with a huge country stove, a lovely sunroom (perfect for lazy afternoons reading in the warmth), a deep 1930's bath and we have over 200 books, games and magazines for you to read!

The space

Our cottage was built in the 1930s, with original fittings mixed with contemporary interiors. It's perfect for both summer and winter stays as the slow combustion fire and ducted heating keeps the whole house at a balmy temperature in winter, while in the summer the many outdoor and indoor areas offer shade and gorgeous views.

Both bedrooms have large walk-in wardrobes with hanging and shelf space, while the tiled bathroom has a deep 1930's bath, rainwater shower head and a view of the garden.

A three-seater emerald velvet couch takes centerstage in our lounge room, and a large refurbished country table seats six for dinner. Our flatscreen TV has full access to Netflix and Stan, and we offer unlimited WiFi.

The kitchen, though small, is well-designed. Preparing meals is easy thanks to large country-style gas oven, which can easily fit two roast chickens in it! The two-draw dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and fridge are all new, and tea, coffee and cooking staples are all provided (along with unlimited wood for our fireplace).

The artist studio is the perfect place to try your hand at a little painting, sketching or just relaxing in our cane lounge. Canvases, paper, paint and pencils are all provided.

The garden features wonderful examples of both native and exotic plants: the front garden enclosed by photinia hedges is a classic Blue Mountains planting with new and old rhododendrons (some reaching up to 15 metres high!), azaleas, daphnes, camellias, hydrangeas and almost 30 Japanese maples. Under the maples in spring is a jonquil lawn and in autumn the changing colours of the maples are stunning.

The back garden cascades gently down the hillside in a series of carefully planted terraces. Just below the back deck are some kitchen plantings of citrus and herbs (help yourself!). Further down, a paved terrace is ringed by lavender bushes, overlooking a terrace of six olive trees. Below that is a grassed area featuring banksias and waratahs and a barbecue . A tree-fern gully leads down into a further native garden that ends in tall stands of mountain blue gums.

Our garden offers a wide array of nooks and special hideaways for a cup of tea, or wine, and homemade lunch or for reading/ sketching. There are many places to sit and catch the sun or avoid it depending on the season.

A great getaway!
If you are looking for solitude and just relax by the fire, this is the place. Bonus if you are an artist to get creative in the artist’s studio! The owners have gone out of their way to make you feel welcome and your stay comfortable.

Comfortable and cosy cottage with wonderful views
“The Artist’s Cottage” is set up with everything you need and even an artist’s studio with materials to use. It’s terraced gardens abounds with birds and the views at sunset are very special. The sunroom is the perfect spot to read in the afternoon and there are plenty of quiet spots in the garden too. Even though the weather was wet and misty the cottage was warm and cosy.

About the host

We are a creative couple from Sydney who loves the beauty of the Blue Mountains. This is our much-loved mountain retreat and we love to share with like-minded travellers.

Why they chose this property

This is a cosy little cottage with lots of original touches. The gardens are beautifully planted, with over 40 maples, as well as tree ferns, tall gums and a forrest of native plantings.

What makes this property unique

We love the location of the cottage, the garden and the fireplace! But we also spent time in the art studio, painting and drawing, or in the sunroom reading one of the 500 books on offer.
