Mataura Lodge | Your Private Rural Retreat
Mataura Lodge Athol is immaculately renovated and situated in an idyllic rural setting. Located in private large gardens, only 45. minutes from Queenstown along the Southern Scenic Route toward Te Anu, it is perfect for a couples retreat or take advantage of our additional spaces to make this an ideal home for a family or group getaways.
Mataura Lodge History
Mataura Lodge comes with unique Southland and Otago history. Starting life in the King Edward Army Barracks, built circa 1939, the building served to accommodate soldiers during wartimes. It then moved on to become a temporary home for New Zealand immigrants, seeking a new life in this beautiful country. Although the building has been completely renovated, original features remain. The floor boards in the main living area have been lovely restored and refitted, meaning you will be walking on a small part of history.
Moved to its new home in Athol in 1992, the building has been the passion project for some talented builders and decorators, resulting in a comfortable and stylish home away from home for guests, now open has Mataura Lodge.
Living Area
Sunshine and views combine with a spacious living area to create a great place to relax. Comfortably furnished with multiple seating options, the living area also includes a large screen LCD TV and Bluetooth stereo, with local Freeview channels as well as Netflix available on request.
A feature of the living area is the large wood burner surrounded by incredible stone work, it all combines to create a great place for guests to enjoy the views across the gardens to the hills opposite the lodge.
Kitchen and Dining
The Lodge comes with a fully equipped kitchen, with all the required amenities should you like to prepare your own meals during you stay. Adjacent to the kitchen is a beautiful dining area with table and seating for 6.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
**Master Bedroom - a large bedroom with picture window and comfortable Queen bed made with luxury linens. The Master comes with a private Ensuite Bathroom featuring a soaker spa tub. You will also have your own separate sitting room, creating a private oasis from the main living areas.
** Twin Bedroom - a large stylish bedroom furnished with two comfortable single beds, large wardrobe and picture window looking out over the forest behind the lodge. A contemporary Jack n Jill ensuite bathroom is share with the Queen bedroom.
** Queen Bedroom - a large bedroom furnished with a comfortable Queen bed, large wardrobe and picture window, combine to create a relaxing retreat. A contemporary Jack n Jill ensuite bathroom is share with the Twin bedroom.
Outdoor Living
Indoor-outdoor living is a key ingredient of a kiwi holiday home and Mataura Lodge is no exception. Adjacent to the living areas is a large, wrap around verandah complete with Four Burner Gas BBQ and outdoor dining that captures hours of sunshine.
Laundry Facilities
Facilities including washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board all included.
