Mountain Joy Cottage #9 # BR log cabin

Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed, heated outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.

Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, Ashville and The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee and the Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories

It was probably the worst rental I’ve had. There was a large branch that had fallen on the back porch that I had to drag off, and there was a foot of leaves on the back porch. I had to clean off there were cobwebs and spiderwebs throughout the rental and there was a spider killed in two different beds. The trashcan out front was halfway full of trash and completely full of rainwater that I had to dump out, there was no toilet paper in the unit. If the property was properly maintained It would be a nice cabin to stay in.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cabin itself was nice. Only problem it was dirty! The floors weren't clean at all and the linens were dirty with hair even the matress covers on the twin beds were so dirty they were actually black looking instead of white (this was a pet friendly cabin- but that is why you pay extra so it should be cleaned better). The counters and refrigerator had animal hair in and on them. There was no trash can, no coffee maker and 1 roll of toilet paper for 2 bathrooms. The fireplace had at least 3-4 inches of ashes and half burnt wood. There was spiderwebs and dust. Moldy boots in the closet and bandaid stuck to the inside of the toilet bowl. I will say the office staff was nice and the gentleman I spoke to about the coffee maker and toilet paper and trash can at least brought those items by for us. I've stayed at his location several times over the years and it has always been clean and well maintained. Not sure what happened this time but it makes me question my return.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Upon entry the place smells bad. Their was dog hair on all the sheets. Cobwebs everywhere. I tried to use the stove and the eye was smoking. I then tried to turn the vent hood on and it didn’t even work so I couldn’t cook. The pillows and blankets on the couch smellled horrible! Don’t know if they’ve ever been washed. Definitely bring your own blankets and sheets. Our were disgusting. Also don’t plan to cook with the stove smoking. There were also ants all over the counter so any open food we left on the dining table.

Reviewer Comments: The location was spectacular however the cabin was not clean or up to par for the price charged. We saw several bugs and the floors were not cleaned upon arrival. The ceiling fans were covered in dust. The cabin could be a great property with some TLC. In comparison to the other cabins we were a little disappointed with the conditions of this one for the price, again comparing to what the other cabins looked like. Also the chimney had wasps/bees swarming inside the top...not sure if they will make their way down into the house. We would recommend staying here on the property but not this particular cabin.

We all enjoyed the cute cabin and the family time spent. We do believe some things could be better explained on the website. We thought the seasonal covered pool would be considered for winter weather. I about cried when we couldn't relax in the pool "some family members are cold natured" . 🤣 It was still a nice experience. Thanks for having us!

Loved it!

We were looking for a get-a-way for the both of us and our 2 Siberian Huskies. We weren't there 10 minutes and 3 elk walked right by us...about 50 feet away! The cabin was clean and the beds were really comfortable! The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed as well. We'd definitely come back!

The master bedroom bed was very soft, and the bed frame broke on the last night. The other queen bed was too soft. The twin beds were comfortable. The cottage property was lovely, well cared for and the other cottages very pretty. The WiFi was literally non existent, we could only watch cable tv, and had to use our data otherwise. I would suggest a washer/dryer in the building behind the pool, that would be very helpful. We stay in the beginning of July. The pool was almost too cold to use. The kitchen counter space was not really conducive to cooking, not enough space. Kitchen was well equipped, though. Overall we liked the place, and were very happy they accepted pets. Our dogs loved it as well. Especially the elk!

Reviewer Comments: The first night it was impossible to sleep, the smoke detector chirped all night. we put a call in to the management when we first moved in , but they did not correct it until the next day. we only had 2 half rolls of toilet paper and ran out and had to go buy at store.
