Wonderful farm retreat
We has a wonderful weekend stay. Our kids (and the parents) really enjoyed meeting all the farm animals (bull, cows, goats, chickens, dogs, and lots of pigs) as well as picking blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. We spent a lot of time just enjoying relaxing on the porch swing and exploring the farm but also enjoyed local sights such as Bacon's castle, Chippokes state park and biking around Jamestown . Amy and Michael were gracious hosts and encouraged us to freely explore the farm. The house was clean and comfortable with a great blend of historic integrity and modern conveniences. We highly recommend a visit for families.

Nostalgic return to country
I grew up on a farm nearby and greatly enjoyed this weekend with my husband, my daughter & her husband and 2 children (4 & 6). The kids liked discovering the house and made a game of “who will sleep in this room”. The house was just the right size for us, had all the amenities we needed and was very comfortable on a very cold weekend! Had the weather been warmer, we would have explored the farm and met more farm animals. We enjoyed visiting the goats at the Hampton winery (unfortunately the goats were not climbing their tower!), drove past my childhood farm, visited the “spring” at Spring Hill Church and reveled in the ever beautiful Spring Hill millpond! Thank you for a wonderful and unique experience!

Cute historic house
This is a very cute historic house on a large farm. We had fun in Smithfield and enjoyed the quiet nature of this location. We really, really enjoyed our eggs and sausage that came from the farm. In fact, we bought more sausage to take home!

Who needs tv?
What a beautiful step back in time. Between my 14 year old, my 41 year old self, and 69 year old mom...no need for TV here! (Although they did have one if you want). Charming farmhouse brimming with the feel of past generations, clean, stocked with pots and pans and lots of cozy blankets. We enjoyed waking up to the sound of hungry cows. Visiting the animals down the road...is that a sheep or a pig?! They were all so cute. The farm fresh eggs in the fridge were so good. And looking at the beautiful stars every night...amazing. My favorite time was sitting on the porch swing while Mom sat in the rocking chair and we watched my daughter talking to the cows. The calves were so cute and spunky...like puppies. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to unplug, play cards, and get away from city life.

We love growing our own food, and most of our food come from the farm. Small and diversified, we are too curious to stick with one crop!

Why they chose this property

Everyone should experience grounding that happens when you walk barefoot across a grassy knoll and feel alive, especially children. We are part of nature but unfortunately most people are at least 3 generations away from rural life, and it is agriculture that sustains us. Staying on a farm, helping on a farm, is a grounding that comes from dirt, the humus and humanity of which the word humble is derived.

What makes this property unique

Its a working farm, we do work around the farm every day. We don't have time to teach you how to farm, but you are able to get a glimpse into producing your own food, and all that this entails.
