This was a nice spot to stay while exploring the Columbia river. Centrally located near the bridge of the gods, this was an easy jet to Carson, Hood River and Eagle Creek. It is an affordable option for two bedrooms and a small kitchen. There were enough utensils etc for limited meal prep but we wouldn't have been able to cook an elaborate meal. Be aware that this spot is (as shown on the map) right off the highway and train tracks, so you will hear traffic noise.

Hi Julia, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. After reading your feedback, the homeowner wanted to share the following:
We're glad you enjoyed the location and price! The house is above the road but not right on the highway. Vehicles are rare, but loud traffic such as that from emergency responders can be heard occasionally. Otherwise, it is a quiet place in the mornings and evenings.
Thanks again for reviewing your stay!

Rustic
I am ok with rustic and simple accommodations, however, I do expect clean. It was not the deep clean that I have come to expect from a vacation rental. The sheets, towels, and hard surfaces were all nice and clean, but there was dust, dirt and grime in the corners and on some of the fixtures creating a feeling of neglect. Additionally the outside was not what was pictured in the images of the posting. Again, there was a feeling of neglect to the deck space provided as well as the grounds surrounding the apartment.

Hi Mary, the homeowners were disappointed to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 5-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following: We are unsure of the odor you are referring to as we take cleanliness seriously and use a cleaning service to have the home professionally cleaned before each guest's arrival. Pets have not recently been in the unit to cause any issues. We wish you had reached out to the Guest Contact during your stay if there were any issues you needed to be addressed. We would have done everything we could to resolve them immediately so that you could enjoy the home. We truly go above and beyond for our guests, and we are confident that future guests will have excellent stays.

Things to Know Before You Go
Our rustic hideaway in Stevenson was not quite what we expected. I booked this vacation rental in January of 2022 and the previous reviews up to that point were good. I had not checked back before our stay in September of 2022 and wish that I had. I would have to agree with some of the other reviews in both the positive and negatives of this trip.
The positives are that the location is very convenient to touring the Gorge and surrounding areas, the view is gorgeous and that the hosts were kind in accommodating our group with a last minute change.
The drawbacks are that this rental is right off a main road and the traffic is loud, at least in summer, throughout the day and even during the night. The trains which run throughout the day and night sound like they are going to come through the house, but by the third night we had adjusted to those sounds.
I would say one of the most disappointing aspects of the rental is the overall feeling of a place that has not been kept up in comparison to the other vacation homes I have visited over the years. There is an odor in the main room, probably dog, as there is dog hair on the rug and sofa. Also, we had an intimidating encounter with the two dogs on property one morning while accessing our car.
I truly hate to write a poor review, especially knowing that good-intentioned folks count on rental income. But I also want to spare other paying guests from feeling the disappointment we did. Perhaps with a little TLC, this rental could be an affordable and comfortable option for future travelers.

Peaceful and relaxing
I stayed with my kids over the weekend and the cabin had everything we needed to relax after a day of sight-seen in the beautiful Columbia river area. Chris is a great host and I would pick this location 10/10 times
Everything about this rental was fine. Not outstanding, but not terrible. Beds were comfortable and it was mostly clean. I’m not super picky, and I didn’t complain. There was some animal hair on the couches, slow drain in the tub, a few of the silverware weren’t cleaned properly (most likely from previous guests). Two big ole spiders I killed in the bathtub. And a train that runs very close to the property. I am sure if I had said something they would have taken care of the drain. I chose not, to do so. As I said. It was fine for a single person that used it as a landing pad for the beautiful area around it.

Charlie was a great contact and great beds and linens, but…
Charlie was great to have contact with and the linens and beds were excellent…BUT, the smell in the apartment was tough for us…thinking it was past animals. I feel bad that I am writing this, but it was tough for us.

Like staying at Aunties house.
It was everything the listing said it was. Great location. Train's busy but we knew that going in! Super comfy, very clean beds and bathroom. Full house living. Exterior was a bit rough, watch for doggie poo and roofing nails. We would stay again.
Owners were very hospitable and friendly.
Will be back soon
Thankyou Charlie

Fantastic View. Clean, quiet and welcoming
A great little place with a fantastic view of the Columbia River. The host, Charlie, was as helpful as one could be. Very friendly and kind. I stayed here over thanksgiving and cooked a whole thanksgiving dinner for my family. The kitchen is small, but definitely workable. The wood burning stove took me a few attempts to get going, but once it's lit, it warms the whole place (Firewood on site too... I'd recommend bringing dry tinder/kindling).
Everything was clean and comfortable and cozy. It's a little out of the way from the next "slightly bigger town" but it's totally worth it for the views, the quiet, and the owner.
We had a great time and I'd definitely stay again the next time I'm in that area.

Wonderful spot to rest our heads. Beds were comfortable and the space was great for 4 adults. Clean and taken care of. We would absolutely book this place again. Charlie was great about communicating the check in process and answering any questions.
(A few things that would go a long way to improve the stay, but aren’t a big deal: There was no bath fan for the 1 bathroom, but there was a window. Coffee pot looked a little old and unclean, but worked just fine.)
I still rate this an excellent stay!
We wanted something that had a view of the Columbia River, that was close to the waterfalls we wanted to see and accommodated our family. It met all our expectations. Our hosts were friendly and responsive and we highly recommend their place.

The property was clean and manager was very nice. There was no soap or toiletries, which are always helpful. The biggest problem was the downstairs neighbor complained we were being loud, when we were doing nothing but watching tv and cooking dinner at 530. There was no one speaking loudly, kids playing, or adults drinking, Simply using the property. I'm guessing due to the houses age, it makes it so walking around upstairs causes creaks and noise. That said, it made us feel very uncomfortable and like we were walking on eggshells to try not to upset the neighbor. We were told to try and be quiet during the hours she is there, when the rental says quiet hours were 10pm. We were in bed at 9 and having to be close to silent at 6 pm is a bit difficult. If the downstairs tenant is so sensitive, doesn't seem like the unit should be used as a rental. Another suggestion woudl be to have coffee. Almost all rentals do. Thanks
This property exceeded my expectations! The home was sparkling clean, the location was great right in between Carson and Stevenson with a breathtaking view of the mountains and gorge. Charlie and Cheryll were the most friendly folk, they gave us awesome tips on where to go and what to see. They made us feel right at home, I hope to stay here again next time I’m in the area!
Has everything I needed for a week of paddling on the gorge. Great view of the changing river conditions, clean environment, all the kitchen cooking utensils.
This place was quiet and comfortable and a great home base for exploring the Columbia River Gorge! The kitchen was well-stocked and the bedrooms were comfortable. The wood stove made it very cozy for watching TV at night. Charlie was a great host.
We stayed here just two nights. Very comfortable stay. The view of the river from the living room window is impressive.

Good for solo and short but noisy/quirky house design
As another reviewer stated there is train noise but anyone who has stayed along the gorge on either side of the river will expect that but there is little to shield that noise from the property so it is quite loud especially with the windows open at all. If you are a light sleeper you will want earplugs. I slept through the noise once asleep but I am a deep sleeper.
The part I was not expecting was the level of road noise. This place is not tucked back in the woods/away from the road. It’s probably about 50 yards from SR 14 so you get regular road noise in addition to the trains.
The kitchen is decently stocked for basic cooking but clearly intended for most meals to be outside the residence. There is no formal dining/eating area so if you are using this with 4 humans it can hold that may be a detraction. If you are ok eating on the couch/chairs then you’re good. Plenty of seating and chairs. Wood for the stove etc.
Also note this place has some interesting slopes to the walls/spaces. I’m 5’8 and anyone too much taller 6 ft plus probably would run the risk of hitting their head on the wall in the shower. The large beds leave little space to maneuver around them in the rooms. Be aware the beds are very firm.
As a crash space for hiking and being out in the area or in warmer months using the outdoor space it would be good.

Hi Margeret, we want all of our guests to rest easy when they stay with us, and we are sorry that you experienced an issue with outside noise on your trip. We do include a map on our listing so that guests can see the approximate location of the home before booking, but we apologize that this caught you off guard. We shared your feedback with the homeowners, who confirmed that the apartment is exactly as seen in listing photos, which includes the dining arrangements and bedroom furniture. They also assured us that the showers are seven-feet tall, and therefore can accommodate all of their guests. Most guests have found the beds very comfortable, though they are sorry that the mattress didn't match your preferences. They work very hard to make their guests feel at home here!

Vacation
House is spacious, and decorated cute. Apon arrival i noticed immediately that the bathroom and living room were not clean. The online listing stated no animals welcome... But the couch was covered in hair, and the floor also. Didn't appear to be vacuumed either. The driveway is not the most convenient either.
Manager responded quickly when reached out to.
Overall the stay wasn't bad. Only real complaint was the house not being cleaned.

Hi April, we want our guests to arrive at a vacation home that is 100% ready for their stay, so we take the cleanliness of our properties seriously! We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: We'll make sure to pass along your specific comments to our cleaning crew to make sure these issues don't recur for future travelers. Thanks for letting us know about your stay!
This unit was much better than expected! Very clean with an excellent location! Easy drive to local attractions and restaurants. If you are a light sleeper the train can be annoying (almost hourly throughout the night it seemed). Comfortable beds, excellent kitchen accessories, and special extra touches were a nice touch! The only thing was the oven didn’t work on bake, only broil.
Property is located in a junk yard with abandoned cars on jack stands and abandoned boats scattered throughout. This property was advertised with wi-fi and internet. There was no internet despite the check-in information provided an internet password. Upon immediate arrival, I called the Property Manager four (4) times the first evening, with no reply. I attempted to contact Property Manager the next day with no reply. It has been 7 days, and we have yet to hear from the Property Manager (owner). Location was on steep gravel driveway and was 50' from the highway with trucks; and 100 feet from the train tracks. I would give the overall rating a "0"., as in terrible; don't waste your money and time.
