About this property
2 Bedroom 2.5 Bath (sleeps 4) Historic home by Riverwalk & Parks (min.30 nights)
Nestled in a lush green Oak Hammock, across the street from the Manatee River, waterfront park and public pier (and on the edge of the historic downtown district), this deceptively spacious historic home has charm in abundance as well as the necessary modern conveniences. Built in the 1880-1890s, extensively remodelled in the 1920's, and completely remodelled again throughout 2014-16, guests describe the house as a "Home away from home".
Sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms) and 2 1/2 baths. Master bedroom with California King bed, and 2nd bedroom with a Queen bed. Fully remodelled and equipped kitchen: granite countertops, modern appliances including dishwasher. Kitchen leads to separate sitting area, dining area, and a laundry room and half bath. Main living room retains 1920's charm: chandeliers, original fireplace, doors and wood floors. Television, telephone, DVD player and WiFi with high speed internet are included. Front sun room has rustic coastal charm: original dutch siding showcases historic architecture; vaulted ceiling; plantation fan; cosy couch to sit, relax and enjoy views of the waterfront Mineral Spring Park and Manatee River.
The rear deck has furniture and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking and dining. It overlooks the neighboring historic Mineral Spring Park. Many birds including owls, hawks, bald eagles, osprey, woodpeckers, egrets, herons and ibis have all been spotted in the yard and surrounding park.
The house is on a spacious double lot with a large driveway and ample space for several cars, an RV, or a boat trailer, if needed. Please note that a maximum of 3 vehicles are allowed on the property (please let us know when booking if you wish to bring a boat/trailer or RV).
There is lots to see and do in Bradenton, and we are well positioned between the gulf islands and Interstate 75 (for trips to the beach, island sunsets, and day trips to other nearby cities/destinations further afield).
The popular Bradenton Riverwalk starts at 14th St W in Downtown (Pier 22 restaurant & Twin Dolphin Marina) and is currently being extended east, all the way to 14th St E (the waterfront park opposite our house!). Once completed, you’ll be able to stroll/cycle along the Riverwalk and enjoy its amenities all the way to downtown.
There is a historic waterfront park next to and opposite the house, with access to a brand new public pier, boardwalk, and new section of the Riverwalk….right across the street from the house! There is an observation tower (ADA accessible) for great views over the Manatee River, and benches in the park and along the river where you can relax and take in the views. Walk, cycle, skate, sit, picnic, walk the dog, or borrow a book from the little free lending library….this is a much loved neighbourhood park. A children’s play park is also available a few minutes walk along the riverwalk.
The Manatee Historic Village and other historic houses are 2 blocks away. Local cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, Manatee Memorial hospital, theatre, museums, attractions including the planetarium, Riverwalk, Marina, and Historic Downtown with its Farmer’s Market, are all within 2 miles (a leisurely walk for the mobile or an easy cycle ride or short car ride away).
If you need ideas of places to visit, eat, and explore, check out the brochures and pamphlets available in the drawers of the TV cabinet! We also provide a selection of DVDs, games, jigsaw puzzles and books for rainy days, and some toddler & children’s books, puzzles and games too. Beach chairs are also available for your use when you want to head to the beach!
However you choose to spend your time here, we hope you have a wonderful stay.

About the host
Hosted by Tiffany Oatway

We fell in love with this area when we decided to get married on Anna Maria island some years ago. We used to rent on the island but decided to set up house in Bradenton, and save this old Florida gem from demolition. We completely remodelled it, over 3 years, whilst retaining as much of its early character and charm as possible. In the process we discovered Bradenton lives up to its name of the 'Friendly City'. We have a wonderful community of local businesses, eateries, and our lovely neighbourhood and neighbours.
Why they chose this property
We love being near the water, the great old oak trees in our yard and around our quiet neighbourhood, and our proximity to local historical sites, Downtown, the Riverwalk, the gulf island beaches and our great location between the cultural hubs of Tampa, St Petersburg and Sarasota.
Nearby....
There are several shops and restaurants/cafes/bars within 0.5 miles of the cottage and a much greater choice within 1.5 miles, which incorporates Downtown.
River/Boats: located just across the street from the Manatee River, close to Tarpon Pointe Marina and Caddy's at the Pointe. Braden River public boat ramp is located just a few minutes away at Manatee Avenue & 29th Street East. There is a multitude of Charter fishing guides in the area.
Beaches: There are several long stunning white sandy beaches are located in nearby Bradenton, Anna Maria Island & Longboat Key. The Sandbar, Beach House & Mar Vista restaurants are some of the best dining on the island beaches, especially if you love watching sunrise/sunsets. The Bradenton City Riverwalk can be accessed nearby (with it's skate park, volleyball, water park, playground, kids' splash zone, picnic area, outdoor stage, and more). Walk/cycle along the Riverwalk to Old Main Street, Pier 22 or Mattisons Restaurants.
Local and Historical: The house is located adjacent to the historic Mineral Springs Park. The Manatee Village Historical Park and Reflections of Manatee museum houses are within walking distance (1 or 2 blocks). It is a short drive to the South Florida Museum and Planetarium, DeSoto Memorial Park, Mote Aquarium, Mixon's Fruit Farm, Sarasota Jungle Gardens, and Robinson Preserve.
