About this property
Casa Azul/Charming Downtown Casita
This charming and private casita is perfect for one - three guests. It's a short walk (three blocks to the downtown Plaza) with on site parking. It has been totally remodeled and renovated by me with new windows, bath and kitchen complete re do. Casa Azul is furnished in my always popular "Melissiana Style" which is antiques, Consignment Store and Estate Sale treasure, all original Taos art and of course my sense of whimsy throughout! You enter down a flagstone pathway to your cozy little house. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need. I always say that if I don't have it, you won't need it! Refrigerator and gas stove with oven. Great random tile counters and I do have so much fun re purposing kitchen cabinets... The living room has a loveseat sofa sleeper with a gel foam mattress for one with all bedding, coffee table and entertainment cabinet. I put in a corner gas log stove for heat and wonderful ambiance. Just like a wood burning stove, but no logs or ashes to deal with. There is an equipale (Mexican style) table and two chairs. Bright, fun and festive dishes with nice big coffee mugs. The bathroom is totally re done with random tiles and all amenities. The bedroom has a tongue and groove wood floor that I "played" with after a staining mishap. (Don't believe you can stain and seal with one product and don't stain boards outside on a hot/sunny day!) Queen bed, good reading lights of course. There is a closet complete with cozy robes and a dresser. There is a totally private rear landscaped walled back courtyard garden with table/chairs and a BBQ. The patio is flagstone with a large shade structure. As with all my properties Casa Azul is dog friendly I provide dog sheets for furniture and bed as well as mutt mitts for clean up. Dog fee is $10 per dog per night which may be left upon departure. This casita is part of a compound with a main house (Casa Grande VRBO 860840) with three bedrooms/two baths and another Casita (Casa Verde Vrbo 920144) one bedroom available. All can be rented separately or can sleep a group of 2. Each space has a private entry and private wall garden courtyard. The only space that is shared is the full laundry room which is available for all guests. All have off street parking. This entire downtown compound was featured on the 2017 Taos Home & Garden Tour. On a Saturday in August I got to show off my style to 500 tour goers! If Casa Azul is booked for your dates please look at Casa Verde Vrbo 920144 which is very similar and in the same compound.

Loved our stay! Very cute accommodations and close to everything. Melissa has a knack for decorating and made the space so cozy and welcoming! Will definitely return to Taos!
This is an adorable cozy property just a 10 minute walk to downtown Taos. It is quirky, beautiful, comfortable with a lovely outside space for enjoying the season. Don’t be a fool , rent this place!!!
Its location was perfect, a couple of minutes walk from the plaza and the shops and the Main Street through Taos. The property was a lovely older casita. It was nicely decorated with really nice back yard. The appliances were old but worked fine. Melissa was incredibly responsive and helpful with the few questions we had. My only reservation was that the bed seemed small, even for a queen, and the mattress was OK, at best. Overall, it was an excellent place to stay and visit Taos.
This place is definitely as advertised. Quiet, nice area. We were able to walk to dinner. Owner was responsive and accomodating. It'll be our first choice again next winter.
Melissa has created/curated a lovely casita in the heart of Taos. Easy walking distance to the plaza with all the shops and restaurants.
Casita was very clean and cozy.
Casa Azul was the perfect spot for us in Taos. A quiet place to relax close and convenient to the plaza and everything else. We loved the outdoor space and Melissa's creative and funky designs inside and out. We'd definately stay there again.
Really enjoyed Casa Azul. I brought my small
dog. The fenced private yard was perfect for us both. Dog sheets for the bed and couch were provided. The Plaza was within easy walking distance.
We had a wonderful stay. The casita was all we needed for a few days. Everything in town was walkable from the location. Quiet spot. Easy communication with host. Lovely place!
We have never been to Taos, so it was nice to stay close to the "city" center. Easy walk from house to local art and restaurants. This would be a great location for 2 to 3 families to stay, offering everyone privacy, but a common place to meet all together.

A charming, spacious apartment! The kitchen was well equipped and the bed was a comfortable height. Nice, private patio.walking distance to the plaza.
Perfect for our trip. Could use one more comfy chair in living room -little couch not quite big enough for two to relax comfortably.

This was such a perfect place for my stay! It was walking distance to the Hanuman Temple. An added bonus was the courtyard! So peaceful.

Great little place
Stayed here over New Years and loved it. A great little place with wood burning stove, eclectic decoration and a short stroll to the Plaza. Had everything I could have needed.

About the host

Some women collect shoes, some collect husbands, but I seem to collect houses! Each of my properties has a personality and great potential for vacation rentals. I love the planning, the remodeling, the collaborations with my crew and the results are just so much fun! They are all "seat of the pants"! I never have blueprints or a clue as to what I am doing. I always have a vision and see the potential of what I have bought and what I can do although the process is always a challenge...
Why they chose this property
I saw this property this last summer when my real estate agent/friend Cynthia told me about a fourplex right downtown that needed work, but would be a great project for me. I saw it and knew she was right. There are four units on this downtown property. The main house is three bedrooms/teo baths. Then there are three little separate little casita/houses. Each has a private entry, walled rear courtyards and just great spaces. I had a presale inspection and the 49 page report should have been a clue. Past work was done badly, but I knew it had so much potential and I was right.
What makes this property unique
I saw this property and knew what a great find it was. Individual guests can stay here and enjoy what I do, have privacy, rear courtyard gardens or a large group could rent the entire compound, socialize and gather in the main house yet everyone have their own space, bedroom and bath. Add to this, it's a dead end one block street so very quiet and walk to everything.
