Romantic Private Lake Como Cottage with breathtaking 180-degree lake view

This romantic stand-alone cottage offers stunning views and a private garden, ideal for rest and relaxation.

PROPERTY:
The first floor, with stone tile flooring and exposed wood beams, has a living area with a cushioned bench, a full kitchen, and a large terrace.
An outdoor table can be set up on the terrace for al-fresco dining.

The second floor has hardwood flooring, a slanted wood-beamed cathedral ceiling, and a large French window opening onto a cute little terrace.
There is one bedroom with an Italian "matrimoniale" bed (in between queen and king size, 163 cm/64"), and a bathroom with a bidet and shower.

PARKING:
There is no private parking at the property, but the little town has plenty of free public parking throughout. Depending on the time of day you may find one very close to the house, or a short walk away, at most a few hundred yards.
It has never been an issue for our guests.

FOOD/DINING:
This is a self-catering property - you will need to bring your own provisions or eat out.

Brienno is a very small town - it only has one great pizzeria and one upscale restaurant. However, in the town next door, Argegno, there is a lovely bakery, a small fruit/vegetable store, and a small grocery store.
For supermarkets, we recommend the Bennet supermarket in Como, or a good mid-sized supermarket in Lenno, both about 15 minutes away.
Mon-Thurs 7.30 am to 9 am there is a food truck with bread, cheeses, cold cuts, etc.

We have compiled a thorough list of many restaurant recommendations in the area, which you will receive upon booking.

GETTING HERE:
The Milan airports are both 40 min away.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND RENTING A CAR because public transportation options are few and far between. No Uber or taxis. There are limited dining and grocery options within walking distance.

WHAT TO DO:
- Ideal a starting point for visiting the entire Lake region, with dozens of pretty towns.
- It is very close to Laglio (George Clooney's Villa) and to Cernobbio, with their fine restaurants.
- Boat-tours stop at the world-famous villas and their botanical gardens.
- Day trips to Como and Milan with their art and culture, restaurants, and shopping (designer outlets, silk scarves, and ties) are a must.

Our stay was lovely! Hosts were great and extremely responsive and helpful. The views were awesome. If you're accustomed to driving on tiny roads, having a rental car would be perfect as groceries and food options are generally in other towns. There are a few hiking trails in Brienno that take you through the old part of the town with deteriorating buildings which was very cool to see. Great place to stay!

PERFECTION!!! The views of Lake Como do not get better than this! The stairs up are NO JOKE but so worth it! I can’t stop raving to all my friends about the “fairytale land” we stepped into when we arrived at the cottage; I could have stayed a month!

Beautiful spot

After bringing luggage up 88 steps, you will be greeted by an amazing view of the lake, the town across from the lake, and the church tower in Brienno. It is a very safe space. We rented a car and never had a problem finding a space to park. More than anything, the information from the host was PERFECT! She is very thorough with instructions and directions. As an FYI, there will likely be salt, pepper, oil, coffee, sugar and tea in the unit. We bought some bread and butter and eggs from Aldi in Como. We also ate at the pizza place in Brienno. Delicious!

A feel of authenticity

A fantastic place for a non-entitled traveler couple. A no-frills accommodation with a strong feeling of connectedness to the area and to history. The host made the logistics very easy. We really enjoyed our stay and will consider it in the future.

Oasis of peace and tranquility

Truely charming cottage with amazing views on Lake Como. The perfect place to relax and enjoy. Views from everywhere - best from the bed upstairs. Brienno is a little set back, very quiet historic village. Beware of a few steps to reach the Cottage. A small vending-truck sells all needed for a great breakfast in the morning. Owners just as charming as their place - we had a memorable stay and will be back.

Incredible stone cottage with the best view!

We had such an amazing stay, absolutely loved having a balcony AND a terrace with perfect views of Lake Como and the charming tiny town of Brienno. There truly is no comparison with Brienno, it’s much sleepier than the busier touristy towns on the fabulous lake, yet has a lot of conveniences, like the morning food truck selling insanely cheap and delicious homemade bread, local cheeses and charcuterie! The best pizza we had in Italy was nearly next door and the fancier restaurant had incredible pasta. We loved the beach bar where we could get a perfect Cappuccino, soda, drink or snack and swim in the lake! The cottage itself has everything we required and was a perfect home base. We had steeled ourselves for the many stairs but truly they were not that bad! We had a bit of struggle with the trash (5 bins but only 2 with bags and a bit confusing for us) but the host was super quick and responsive and helped us get it right. Highly recommend this place.

Gorgeous view, beautiful home, perfect location

The home was exactly as represented. The view from both inside and outside was simply stunning. We loved sitting on the balcony outside the bedroom sipping coffee or wine. It was so peaceful and pretty. The walk-up to the home is steep so we were glad we packed light. The walk is worth it though as the view is amazing. There is plenty of free parking nearby. The entire house was so well laid out and had everything we needed to include a kettle for making coffee, a nice sized fridge and freezer (with three ice trays! Yay!), a nice sized bathroom with hooks for our bathroom bag and plenty of countertop space. It was all very cozy, clean and relaxing. We ate at the local pizza place twice and it was so good! We had a rental car (a must have when staying here) so we explored all the nearby towns and took the ferry to other sites we were interested in. We bought some groceries in a nearby town (I forget the name of the town but it’s in the guest book) and we had breakfast at the house every day. We learned from locals the Como really doesn’t have an off season anymore so reservations for dinner are highly recommended. We loved how peaceful Brienno was and would definitely stay here again.

La dolce vita!

My wife and I spent 2 weeks at "Chalet Lilia" and found it to be the perfect jumping off point to neighboring towns, cities, and beautiful vistas! We flew into Milan and the Chalet was a perfect distance (45 minutes). We were given all the information accurately before the visit which was perfect for checking in without any problems. The Chalet was just as described and has an incredible 180+ degree view of Lake Como. It was perfect for us as a couple. Being here for 2 weeks, we utilized the kitchen completely, making breakfasts and lunch there often. There are nearby markets for groceries which was convenient and after 1 week used a local laundromat which worked out great too. Renting a car is a must and using it, we travelled to many of the major towns along the west side of Lake Como (Como, Argegno, Tremezza, Menaggio). We took several ferry trips across to Bellagio and Varenna which was also convenient from neighboring Tremezza. Lilia and Carmen were spot on with recommendations for dinners nearby and have a list of many go-to places that they send you. We thought the pizza place locally in Brienna was great and was nice due to the close proximity (walking distance) to the Chalet. Some of our favorite activities included a Greenway hike (10 km) and trips to Lugano, and the many villas (D' Este, Balbienello, Melzi, Monastero). The Chalet was very quiet throughout, internet worked great (had some business to do while there) and the utilities were all in working condition without problems. The grounds around the Chalet allowed for routine aperitivos with the lounge chairs and patio furniture adding to the ambiance. Lilia and Carmen answered some questions during our visit promptly and were generally interested in having us enjoy our stay. We highly recommend Chalet Lilia without reservations and would love to return to continue to explore the surrounding areas! Viva Chalet Lilia! Grazie mille, Lilia and Carmen

What a beautiful property for out romantic getaway. Absolutely loved sitting in the yard reading my book while listening to the church bells. Our host was wonderful in communicating restaurant ideas and other needs. Be mindful of the 88 stairs to the property however we loved getting the exercise after a big Italian meal!

Absolutely blown away by the view- such an incredible villa. The hosts are wonderful- excellent communication, perfect instructions and an easy process from start to finish. Would go back in a heartbeat- highly recommend!As mentioned in the listing, there are significant stairs up to the villa- worth it, but be mindful if that will be an issue for you.

Tranquil cottage with amazing views.

What a little gem my husband and I stumbled across. A delightful cottage, elevated with the most amazing views of the lake from kitchen, seating area, bedroom and even bathroom.Numerous seating areas outside, bedroom balcony, patio outside front of cottage, and a decent sized garden on lower level.A quiet location, which was great for us to get away from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing at the end of the day. A couple of good places to eat. Amble parking places for the car in the town. Hosts amazing, giving so much information, and setting up a WhatsApp once we arrived, in case we needed anything.Would recommend 100% to anyone wanting a quiet area with the most amazing views.

Chalet Lilia was far greater than advertised! The perfect ending to our trip to ITALY. BREATHTAKING views! Very quiet and relaxing. The property is more beautiful and picturesque than the very detailed pictures provided on the website. Clean, and every detail was taken care of, or provided by Lilia and Carmen. Incredible in every way!

Host provides perfectly detailed instructions to get to the house. Without them it would be pretty tricky to find but well worth the steps! The house is supplied with everything travelers need in Como. The house is perfect for able bodied and couples visiting Como.

What a View!!!

In a vacation destination like Lake Como where it’s one amazing view after another, there is no more amazing view than the one directly from this beautiful chalet. Lilia was super responsive and very thorough, making it easy to find. I fully recommend this amazing property for your Lake Como visit.

Amazing Holiday

Magical views

Although the steps up to the house are no joke, once you get up and see the views(day, night, it doesn’t matter, they’re all fantastic) you’d climb it all over again. We were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and a pristine and lovely house that had everything we could need. Don’t miss the pizza down the street as it was also delicious. Our host, Lilia, was extremely responsive and friendly. She really wanted to make sure we had a lovely time. Brienno is very tiny, but close to many other places to visit in your time there. Or, just stay in and spend your entire time in the garden or on the balcony!

Incredible view in a historic, peaceful location.

The host was incredibly friendly and communicative. Directions to the rental were very detailed. Restaurant recommendations and information about the area were handy. If you want an authentic Lake Como experience in a quiet area, this is the place for you. Our favorite place was the balcony, sipping on local Prosecco. Yes, there are steep steps to the villa and you need to be fit to navigate them. We appreciated the exercise to work off the extra calories! We are in our 70’s and managed them well. Would stay there again in a heartbeat because the villa made our stay memorable.

Dreamy Chalet

We could not have been happier with the stay. It is true there are 88 stairs to get to the chalet but a small price to pay for the unbelievable view from the porch and balcony. You see the lake and church in one view. The village is dreamy and the chalet even dreamier. You will not be disappointed booking

Hi, welcome to our beloved Chalet Lilia!
I am Lilia, the owner. I now live in Manhattan, but I was born and raised in beautiful , romantic Como.
I want you to know that cottage was a labor of love.
My Mom found the property while hiking on the Lake, and it was just a ruin, with the single most magnificent view she had ever seen.
My Dad and I, an couple of years later, designed every inch of a dream cottage we had in mind. Within a year, it was built. We followed the process day and night throughout. For several years we spent week-ends and holidays there. I actually lived there full time for one full year in 2003. Then I married a handsome Canadian man, and I moved to America; my beloved Dad passed away, and my Mom continues to keep the cottage alive by sharing it with visitors from all over the world.

You will love every minute of your vacation here. Very few other places offer you a stand-alone mini-villa, perfect for a couple, not within a larger complex or apartment building. It was conceived to be used as our own holiday home, not a rental property - we put love and care into every little detail.
The spectacular views speak for themselves - you will never want to leave.
It is a perfect starting point or base for hikes, shopping trips, and many many unforgettable adventures on the lake
