About this property

YELLOW Artists' Cottage TA-038-749-9520-01

Orchid Isle Manor is a 5 acre private estate tucked away in the Kona Coffee country on the slopes of Hualalai volcano, overlooking the small coastal town of Kailua-Kona. On this property there are 4 cottages available rent. Each cottage is a one bedroom studio with a loft and one bathroom.

Also on the property there is a dance/yoga studio you may rent between 9am-5pm by the hour or day or attend classes (private/group). Our family lives on the property above the studio. My husband is a fisherman/cement mason and I am a local artist and I also teach art & dance. If you enjoy dancing, I am happy to connect you with the fun places to go and the interesting people to meet in our local dance community (tango, zouk, salsa, bachata, bellydance, ballroom, etc.).

Needed some caring attention

Well built cottage in a lovely location. Garbage disposal not working. Lanai had no screen door . Glass slider had to be kept closed due to resident cats, humidity made it difficult to have dry linens, kitchen not well appointed for cooking, cats using window boxes for litter boxes, no aloha welcome over all. Host did not respond to last couple of communications, etc

Overall, okay experience but would be much improved with some minor details attended to.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. We loved the friendly cats and the sound of the coqui frogs at night. No A/C was expected and did not bother us…the ceiling fan helped a lot! However, the overall cleanliness was not great. There are black marks all over the walls that could easily be removed with a magic eraser; dead flies on the windowsills; cracked lightswitch plate cover; curtain hooks falling out of the wall; loft glass covered with fingerprints; outside table very dirty (which is understandable since its outside but still could be bleached or wiped down every now and then); and really old towels, which smelled pretty gross after a few uses…and there were no extra towels whatsoever. These are all super simple fixes which could very much improve the overall experience. Additionally, we tried to use the hottub several nights during the designated time, but the water was very cold. Lastly, there was ongoing construction on the main house during our stay, which was pretty noisy. This wasn’t too big of a deal because we were gone most of the day. However, the truck that parked overnight in front of the window blocking the view was bothersome. Overall, okay experience but would be much improved with some minor details attended to.

Comfortable, but business-like.

The cottage was everything we expected. No complaints there. It just felt very impersonal. The welcome note was a list of "thou shall nots." Each had an accompanying price for violation. It became the running joke of our vacation that if you left your chair pulled out from a table, you'd be charged $X for moving furniture. I get it that every one of those guidelines probably stemmed from a guest causing a problem, but to read all of that at once on arrival sets a poor first impression. The location of the cottage was a little more out of the way than I appreciated, and it's altitude guaranteed a lot more rain everyday than I was expecting. That's on me for not knowing the area well, but I thought others reading this might be interested in knowing that too.

Nature's concert

Loved the birds/ insects sounds and nature's fragrance since the moment we arrived. It's a cute house, keep in mind that elderly and disabled people have to sleep downstairs due to the ladder that connects to the upstairs beds. We enjoyed the peace and beauty of the place. Thanks! Lina

Artist yellow cabin

We loved our stay! However, the cottage has a few quirks. We didn’t mind but some folks might want to be aware that not everything is shiny and new. The frogs, flowers and hot tub easily outweighs any disappointments and we all agreed we would stay there again! It has a real and genuine charm.

Fantabulous!

Off the beaten path and worth it :) Gracious hosts, beautiful and well appointed accommodations, just perfect in every way. An awesome warm and inviting experience. Not only would I highly recommend this property and host, but I will definitely stay again when in Kona :)
