About the host
Hosted by Richard Chandler

Rowditch was the family home where our daughters grew up in a rural setting which offers so many freedoms that children growing up in the city cannot enjoy. We all still love spending time here, walking the footpaths and bridleways and watching the wildlife and the seasons as they change. Here you can relax to the tune of the blackcap and the woodpecker's drumming and familiarise yourself with the flora and fauna of South West England. We work hard to maintain a balance, keeping the gardens tidy yet at the same time allowing the natural world around us to thrive
Why they chose this property
Rowditch is the quintessential English thatched cottage and is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The roomy, 4 bedroomed cottage provides comfort and cosiness whilst outside, Rowditch offers a private, secluded environment' It is the perfect place for family football games, barbecues and games of hide and seek in the wooded areas and long grass or just resting in the shelter of the ancient trees which surround the property. We strive to protect our environment and the birds, invertebrates, plants and mammals that share it with us .There are populations of slow worms, toads, a range of butterfly , moth and dragonfly species as well as bees, beetles, numerous rabbits and the occasional deer and pole cats who find their way into the gardens. But our favourites are the birds: from the owls and their night calls to the busy range of tits who feed at the bird table and the buzzards who wheel overhead, they are all wonderful to watch.
What makes this property unique
In this remote, peaceful setting you can escape from the rush of town life and spend the day in the open air just walking and unwinding . Rowditch is conveniently situated and guests are able to travel into town and have easy access to both modern amenities and tourist and cultural activities while at the same time preserving a sense of remote separation . For the little ones there are garden swings, a slide and a children's tree house as well as a travel cot and high chair. In hot weather, the garden sprinkler playing on the lawns is a delightful and welcome form of entertainment.
For older children and adults, there is a selection of board and word games stored in the Welsh dresser in the dining room as well as sets of boules and badminton for the more energetic. The house is surrounded by beautiful views of the hills (Quantocks and Exmoor) and from the garden the stunning colours of the sun setting over Wales and Bristol Channel are powerfully atmospheric.
