IMPORTANT NOTICE: Contact owner for accurate pricing during Peak holiday periods when there is NO additional charge for extra guests due to a higher minimum nightly rate.
Peak holiday times:
Christmas/New Year, February Half term and Easter holidays.
The Old Sugar House is welcoming and bright with a vibrant, open-hearted, homey ambiance. The large common area of living room, bar and dining areas become a sociable central zone, spilling out onto the patio and pool. It is available to rent from 3 bedrooms up to 6 bedrooms and is fully staffed with private Chef, Butler and Housekeeper 6 days weekly at no extra charge. Pricing depends on amount of bedrooms required/number of guests in party. In off peak periods the minimum rate is £1000 per night (throughout 2025) for the use of 3 x bedrooms/up to 6 guests. There is then an additional £110 per person per night for additional guests requiring more bedrooms. The villa can accommodate 12 guests as the Media room converts into a sixth bedroom (with Twin beds only) and has AC, ceiling fan, wardrobes and an en suite shower/wc. Good wifi throughout the property.
There has been substantial upgrading and modernising of the en suite bathrooms and to the furnishings throughout.
There are two very large Master bedroom suites which have Super King size beds, double sinks in the en suite bathrooms, separate wc, dressing rooms, AC, ceiling fans, and private patio/deck leading from french windows with fantastic views of the west coast which can be admired whilst relaxing in comfortable lounge beds. Flat screen TVs in each master suite are concealed in armoires.
The remaining bedrooms can be made up as King size or Twin rooms (Media room or sixth bedroom can only be a Twin). All have En suite shower rooms, ample wardrobe storage for clothing, AC and ceiling fans.
It is important to note that there are 4 bedrooms in the main house to the East of the property, 2 on the ground floor right next to each other and 2 on the upper floor right next to each other. The fifth bedroom is located to the West of the property (other end of the living deck) and is not suitable for children/teenagers under 14 yrs when travelling in a family group unless sharing with another older teenager or adult. Likewise, the Media room or sixth bedroom although nearer to the other bedrooms, is a little distance away and is suitable for adults or older teenagers. It is only recommended for younger children if sharing with an adult or teenager but not for young children by themselves.
Built on the site of an old sugar storage barn this villa is the perfect choice for relaxed, outdoor Caribbean living at its best. Elegant yet informal, it is deceptively spacious with sweeping views towards the ocean on west coast . The decor throughout is very tasteful with a soothing, neutral palette, creating a totally laid-back environment in the most idyllic, tropical setting. A gentle breeze materialises most days, sending its cooling touch throughout the interior and exterior space
Three large, comfortable sofas and four great swivel chairs are arranged on the covered living deck for relaxing anytime of day. There is a strategically placed bar with fridge, sink and bar stools which is a fun, social area if a short break from the hot sun is needed during the day. This is also a great meeting place for drinks and nibbles in the evening before dining around a beautiful, locally crafted Coral stone table which seats 14 people and up to 16 people if needed.
The open plan living deck and dining areas lead onto the swimming pool deck which has ample sun loungers, tables and umbrellas. The incredible panoramic views of the west coast are clearly visible from just about everywhere inside and outside the property.
The library is well stocked with easy holiday reading, board games, playing cards and a basket of wooden cars and various toys for young children. This is a very useful area for students who may need some quiet time to complete assignments or if one needs to make a private business call. Both AC & ceiling fan in the library.
A short 3 minute drive takes you to the famous Mullins Beach and the gorgeous beaches in Speightstown are just another 3 minute drive north, with Thunder Bay and Alleyne’s Bay approx 5 minutes and 8 minutes drive respectively to the South, although it may be difficult to pull yourself away from the breeze-swept pool and outdoor Jacuzzi where many an ice cold local Deputy lager and delicious sun-downer cocktail have been enjoyed. Holetown is about a 15 minute drive away where endless great restaurants and bars are located, also the supermarket for restocking food and beverages. Tranquility and convenience are on your doorstep.
The three exceptional staff of private chef, butler and housekeeper make sure everyone has a truly relaxing holiday. They will greet you on arrival, offer helpful tips on where to go, book restaurants for you, organize transport if required and generally ensure you have everything you need. Chef will help plan menus and can cater for special dietary requirements. Our butler will keep everyone hydrated with delicious cocktails and the housekeeper sees to items of guests personal laundry as well as ensuring all rooms and en suite facilities are thoroughly cleaned and fresh linens provided regularly.
It is impossible not to fall in love with The Old Sugar House where guests experience the beauty of Barbados and make amazing holiday memories to last a lifetime.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Moss
Born and raised in Barbados at Bakers Plantation, as a child, Sue used to play in the storage barn that is now her island retreat. Situated on a ridge looking West onto the crystal waters of the Caribbean sea the house is nestled between two trees she and her siblings climbed during their school holidays. The design of the house focused on taking advantage of the amazing panoramic view and how best to utilise the natural breezes so welcomed from the East. The open plan design affords alfresco living the likes of which is difficult to replicate in the UK or many places the world over. All bedrooms having an ensuite affords all important privacy. Although she now resides in the UK, Sue and her family and friends spend as much time as possible in Barbados at their home from home.
Why they chose this property
Without doubt the incredible view was a massive Wow factor in the decision to build The Old Sugar House. The house almost ended up being called 'Wow' due to everyone's reaction when visiting the site. The house sits on arguably one of the best locations on the West Coast, just above Mullins. The cooling trade winds make this a preferred venue to the humidity, sand and lack of privacy on the beach. It is off the beaten track yet close to all the desirable hot spots on the West Coast. All our guests, whatever age, regard this as a massive plus.
What makes this property unique
The Old Sugar House overlooks rolling sugar plantation fields onto the blue Caribbean sea and it is this incredible vista that sets it apart from many other properties offering similiar accommodation. The unique open plan design immediately connects guests with the tranquility of its location. Although off the beaten track, the close proximity to Mullins Beach and the convenient facilities in nearby Speightstown and Holetown mean one does not have to spend too long travelling to a bank, supermarket, drugstore, bar/restaurant. Many Celebrities frequently stay and the house has been the venue for their special occasions. The house is often used for weddings and has been featured in Hello Magazine.
