About this property

Fully renovated gite in Gascon Farmhouse in stunning private rural location.

A Bertin is a traditional 200 year old Gascon Stone Farmhouse. Within the house is a two bedroom ground floor gite with its own entrances on the south and north sides of the house and private terraces overlooking the garden and pool. Set in gardens and 20 acres of meadows and fields, guests are welcome to make themselves comfortable anywhere in the garden and by the pool and walk through the fields. The owners, Richard and Fran Nustedt, live in the main house and are available for as much or as little contact as you want.
The property is on a no-through lane with superb views over the surrounding fields and hills, undisturbed by the sound of traffic but only a ten minute drive to the nearby medieval towns of Marciac and Plaisance. Our gite is the only holiday accommodation on or near the property. Feel completely at home here in your own little corner of Gascony, with the well-known Bastides and Castlenau Route only one mile away which will lead you through the beautiful medieval towns and villages of this area of South West France.
The Gers is generally considered to be the very centre of Gascony; almost like a national park, there are no airports, heavy industry or large cities here - and virtually no public transport either, so come with a car! The night skies are exceptionally clear and the air incredibly clean - expect to sleep well!
The gite comprises three main rooms; the main living/eating/kitchen area which leads into two spacious bedrooms each with their shower, basin and toilet en suite. There is fourth room also leading from the kitchen area which houses the washing machine, freezer, dishwasher and items you may want for the garden etc.
The front terrace is south facing leading into the garden and pool,and there is a small private terrace on the north side directly from the twin room.
The pool is used by yourselves and occasionally those staying in the main house. However pool use can be private at no extra cost - please mention this when booking.

Another wonderful stay with Frances and Richard at A Bertin. This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. Such a beautiful and relaxing spot and despite a couple of spectacular thunder storms the weather was perfect. This time we were joined by our daughter with her husband and their 2 year old. Little Isla loved the garden, pool and especially the kittens in the barn. Thanks again to Frances and Richard for being perfect hosts.

Endroit paradisiaque

Nous choisissons le Gers pour sa tranquillité et ses beaux paysages. Cette année, nous avons dû adapter nos vacances à la dernière minute car nous avons adopté un jeune cocker. C’est pourquoi nous avons opté pour un gîte. Frances et Richard nous ont accueillis avec des tas de petites attentions. Ils ont été très discrets et très chaleureux à la fois. Nous avons été gâtés.. piscine à disposition et hot tub préparé par la maîtresse de maison. Poulet et souper froid à notre arrivée.. avec une bouteille de vin au frais. Un énorme jardin pour faire gambader le chien. Le gîte est frais et confortable. Très bien agencé et pensé pour profiter de petits repas « maison ». C’était vraiment un endroit inoubliable ! Merci à nos hôtes d’avoir contribué à la réussite de nos vacances.

très belle prestation. Maison au calme absolu, au bout d'une route, avec vue sur la campagne. Piscine agréable, adaptée aux enfants (point le plus profond : environ 1,60m). Frances vous accueille avec des petits présents pour votre premier petit déjeuner. Discrétion absolue. Pour la cuisine : il faut parfois utiliser plusieurs casseroles (petits formats). Comme de nombreux autres visiteurs : on peut souligner que la TV est intégralement branchée sur Londres, mais comme vous avez le wifi, vous pouvez utiliser une tablette!

Très bon accueil, de plus avec nos deux chiens. La situation est idéale pour trouver le calme dans une région vallonnée et chaleureuse. L'habitation est spacieuse et les espaces autour agréables. Total relaxation

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at A Bertin. Enjoying the sun, the pool, the abundant amount of grapes above our heads on the terrace, the daily routine of bringing the horse back and from the meadow and the chat with Frances accompanying this routine, the villages nearby. Frances and Richard are wonderful hosts, available if needed and giving you all the peace and quiet you need. A trip to the mountains made our stay complete. We came back totally relaxed!

Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable trop court. Si le bâtiment est une ancienne ferme gersoise il est très confortable il ne manquait rien et nos hôtes nous ont préparé pour notre arrivée plein de victuailles délicieuses ils sont particulièrement conviviaux toujours prêts à rendre service et prodiguer de bons conseils. Lovely 2 weeks

Me and my family was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks in this lovely gite, the swimming pool was brilliant and often used on the hot sunny days. It is so peaceful there and we all found it very relaxing. The gite is literally surrounded by stunning country side. Fran & Richard were great host always there to answer questions and kept the pool in tip top condition.

Wir haben als Familie drei wundervolle Wochen in Beaumarches verbracht. Die Vermieter waren sehr herzlich und jederzeit für uns da. Der Pool ist traumhaft, die Lage einsam aber einzigartig. Für die Mädels wurde der Urlaub durch das Pferd und die Reitmöglichkeit erstrecht perfekt. Danke für alles! :)

We are Richard and Fran and have lived here in the Gers for over twenty years. We raised our family in North Devon and then, when they flew the nest, came to make our home here in the beautiful - and warm - countryside of South West France.

With help, we transformed our Gascon Farmhouse to incorporate a ground floor apartment where we welcome visitors from May to the end of September. We kept ourselves relatively busy by looking after second homes for a number of English owners and teaching English to young French students, but are now retired and so find plenty of time to relax and enjoy our own home and garden which is quietly situated in a beautiful part of the Gers.

Why they chose this property

Having lived for a long time in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, it wasn't surprising that we chose to move to this area of France. It is a thriving farming area, sitting on rich clay soil with soft rolling hills, cattle, sunflowers, and small patches of woodland. A mecca for wildlife.
This is the heart of the ancient province of Gascony - still totally unspoilt and with new building only allowed if it is within a village and fits in with the existing vernacular - terracotta roofs over ochre-coloured walls. Quiet and well away from tourist honeypots, yet accessible to the mountains of the Pyrenees and the beaches on the Atlantic ocean. The mountains can be reached in about an hour and a half on quiet roads and Biarritz in two hours.

What makes this property unique

We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our property but still welcome family pets if you wish to bring your dog with you. We have over 20 acres of meadows and fields and a young fruit orchard plus grassy tracks and plenty of walks directly from the house which you will be able to enjoy. The swimming pool and terrace are for your private use only and the gardens are spacious.
