The house is situated on the edge of the Basque Country, in the foot hills of the Pyrenees. The country side is green and rolling with the mountains as a back drop. Gestas is a tiny hamlet very quiet and private near the wonderful Gave des saisons, a mountain river well known for salmon and trout fishing; you can swim in the river during the summer. Original features have been kept, they include a large stone fireplace, beautiful 17th century staircase and lovely original wooden floors. A wisteria covered pergola at the back of the house Leeds towards the swimming pool and the garden. It has garden and pool furniture, a dining table and chairs and a BBQ. The Medieval towns of Sauveterre and Salies de Bearn are on the door step. Enjoy lovely walks in the Basque country with its fantastic scenery, or try a section of the Camino de Santiago. a wonderful little house in a perfect quiet location
what can we say other than that we loved the house very much and had a woinderful time in Vincents house. Lots of lovely walking in the area and nice villages nearby.
Only downside was the mosquitoes which wasnt great for the kids so next time we will come better prepared.
Will definitely come again! thank you.
We have had a great time at the beautiful cottage of Vincent. He was really nice and helpful. The house, pool and garden are really nice. You have to see it for yourself!
From Gestas we organized several trips to medieval towns and nice and serious walks in the mountains.

This was a great house for us, we had a lovely time, really relaxing, Vincent was great, when we knew we were not going to arrive until late on Saturday evening he made sure there were essential provisions for us, milk, bread, eggs, butter, etc and beer, which was a big help,
Vincent if you are driving through and need some where to stop we would be more than happy to put you up, thanks for a great holiday

It was a pleasure to have you as guests.
I very much appreciated your cheerful spirit. You knew how to enjoy the house and looked after it perfectly.
All the best and thank you for being such good guests. Vincent
We (husband, friend, and I) had an amazing stay in Vincent’s beautifully furnished home. He couldn't ‘t have been more responsive to a few minor details. He gave us great advice on where to eat, shop and local sites to visit. He could not have been kinder or more accommodating.

Dear Harriet, thank you so much for such a lovely comment. It was very nice meeting you and the children. All the best. Vincent
What a wonderful week we had. The house is very quiet in a small village, first stores about 15 minutes away. The house is fully equipped and was very much to our liking in terms of style and appearance. Because of the beautiful weather we actually only sat outside in the lovely garden with ditto pool. Vincent had sent us all information in advance including great tips for restaurants. In addition, he shared nice suggestions during our visit. Vincent is a very nice host, many thanks for that! It is a wonderful place to rest and to make nice trips to both nature and cities. In short: we enjoyed it very much!

Stunning House Outside Quaint French Country Village in Southwest France
Sure there's Nice, Cannes, Provence and all the name brand places in the south of France. And then there's the Pays Basques in the southwest near Spain.
If you want to get away in beautiful country with rolling fields of sunflowers in the foothills of the Pyrenees, come here.
And stay at this house. The property is exactly as advertised. Our kids played for hours in the yard, jumping in and out of the pool while we lounged close by. When we wanted an outing, there was plenty to do, from evening dinners at fabulous restaurants in nearby Salies de Bearn and Sauveterre to day trips into Biarritz and San Sebastian. We could have done more (the Pyrenees are only about an hour away), but everyone was so happy we'd stayed close to home, exploring nearby villages and even the river behind the house with pools that even little swimmers can enjoy.
My husband and I traveled with our 8-year old son and rented the house together with friends who have a 5 and and 8-year old. There was really something for everyone, from the runners among us, to the loungers, readers, and swimmers.
Property owners can make all the difference with places like this. Vincent, the owner, is perfectly attentive without being intrusive. The place is beautifully maintained. And Vincent's a wonderful resource - willing to share restaurant ideas, to where to spa or find local markets to stock up on croissants.
This place is a real gem. Don't miss it.

We had a great holiday! Half an hour drive to the mountains, an hour to the atlantic coast. Beautiful cities like Pau or Bayonne are near. San Sebastián can be visited in a day.
The house is nicer than the pictures show. Large garden, Hill view, small river at the end of the garden. The sound of the water really makes you relaxed. Host Vincent is wonderful, chic and good sense of humour, fluent english. I absolutely recommand this house.
Note when you have small children: a part of the garden has no fence.

I am an interior designer and product design consultant. I have lived in London for a great many years. I purchase the house in 1990 and used it for a long while as my summer place.
Why they chose this property
I bought this property because I needed a place to go on holidays, away from the crowds and in the middle of the most gorgeous country side. The sea ant the mountains, beautiful scenery what else?
What makes this property unique
The property is very cosy and has a great soul. One feels rejuvenated after a few days there.
