About this property

Prairie Cabin Of The Lac Qui Parle "Lake Which Speaks"

•We are a safe place for BIPOC/LGBTQIA+ folks to enjoy the prairie•

A quintessential, little, rustic cabin on the prairie bluffs of the Minnesota river is what we have to offer. Located on the edge of the Lac Qui Parle hunting refuge, and minutes from the Lac Qui Parle Lake State Park, this small cabin has HUGE potential! It is set up similar to the rental/camper cabins that are available at many of Minnesota's state parks. So if you're more into camping and the outdoors, and less into hotel travel, this is right up your alley! This 600 sq. ft. cabin has electricity, heat, air conditioning, and an outdoor water spigot, outdoor shower, and a separate toilet room equipped with composting toilet (port-a-potty also available). The kitchenette includes a fridge, microwave, and electric stove top with 3 burners. One bedroom with additional sleeping space in loft area. Outdoor patio fire pit and benches face west overlooking the Minnesota river valley and some spectacular sun sets!
Located near the Lac Qui Parle Wildlife Managment Area, the Lac Qui Parle Lake and state park, there is plenty to do and see for the outdoors seeker. Or stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet of a rural Minnesota gem of a cabin.
The cabin built by hand by the owner. All wood was locally sourced or reclaimed. Taking the better part of four years to build and get ready.

One owner does reside on the property with a large dog, Shadow, and a couple cats; the cats roam the property freely, but Shadow does not roam freely during rentals. The cabin is separated from the house by a grove.

Cute comfortable small cabin in a remote feeling setting. Very clean and well provisioned. Was not clear from the description that there is no running water or drain inside.

Weekend getaway

We had a great time! The kids loved the various upstairs sleeping places, and walking down to the dam with the dog. Everyone enjoyed canoeing on the lake, and we were very impressed with the giant cottonwood (and with the mosquitoes around it, too). The ground squirrels were very cute too.

Time away

We enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin, relaxing, reading, watching the sunsets, and exploring towns/state parks/historical sights in the area.

Quiet place for relaxation and rejuvenation

Spent a week at the cabin, and it was a lovely place to relax and let the dog run free. Bring books and art supplies, and also highly recommend a hammock w/ mosquito netting or 10x10 pop up with mosquito netting.

Sweet Cabin

What a great place to stay. Amazing beauty since the cabin is surrounded by green farmland and minutes away from Laq Qui Parle lake and state park. Loved the dog-friendly vibes; the dog had fun too. Posting gives accurate review of the non-running H20 aspect and compensates well with large jugs of water and the outdoor shower. Favorite time was morning coffee just drinking in the quiet and beauty.

Birthday Trip

Finding this cabin way amazing. My and my friends had originally planned to go camping for the weekend but with the weather up north we needed to find and alternative. This cabin was the perfect solution. Its cute and homey and we had a great time siting around the fire pit at night. We tried to do some hiking the the nearby state park but the road over the river was flooded and we had a fun time walking around instead.

Two old ladies in a rustic cabin

If you are there for more than a night or two so you can really learn the ropes, and you have great weather, this is a beautiful out of the way place. It is very small but we were able to find 2 mattresses with only a few dead bugs the we could comfortably sleep on. Indoor seating consists of only one chair, a stool, and benches. It took a while to figure out how to get into the out-house and there was you need to understand a composting toilet. I am sure we were the first to stay here since last December. There were dead bugs in the pots and pans, windows, and a few in the bed quilts which also have holes. Our last night we did discover there were tiny lights in the outhouse where were beautiful and provided enough light. I wish we had known that earlier. If the weather had been nicer, the outside fireplace and seating looked like a lot of fun. It would be difficult to climb the ladders into bed at our age, but kids would find it fun. The wild life is abundant and we fid enjoy our stay. We were not there during much of the day and this was a great location for a homebase for our other activities.t benches.

There were def better options for the price.. But was too bad of stay

Lots and lots of mosquitoes def need a bug zapper bring it with if u have one or go buy one itll def help.. It was a bit too primitive for us going to the bathroom on a toilet that hundreds have also used in a bucket in a sense.Wasnt really much to do queen bed was horride that thing messed my back up so bad it def needs to be replaced like yesterday. We did do some fishing tho and went swimming so thats a plus brought the dog with she seemed to enjoy her self..Communication with the owners who i dont think live on site but they say they do was great. Sunsets were great got to see some chimunks where pretty eager to see us seen a few cats one of thich was pretty friendly didn t see him til the ned of the week trip. There were some piences of foam for beds which was what ever kids didnt really use em.. It was very quiet overall wasnt a bad place to be at..

This property was beautiful. Secluded and quiet despite being on the same property as the owner. The only downfall we had was the mosquitoes swarmed from dawn to dusk so didn’t get to spend much time outside. Would definitely stay again!

Cute place

Very nearby LacQuiParle state park and mission, and we used it as base camp to visit Big Stone State Park as well. The cabin was exactly what we needed, with a stove top for cooking dinner in bad weather, a fridge, several sleeping options, and a toilet house and private outdoor shower.
