Stunning South Devon has plenty to offer whatever your interests. Take a stroll through the striking countryside, head for one of our award winning beaches, soak up the history of Agatha Christie’s home at Greenway or simply find a good old country pub and settle down by the fire - the list is endless. Mannings Barn is perfectly located to allow you to explore our beautiful county.
Our nearest beach is the beautiful golden, White Flag rated, Blackpool Sands. A short 10 minute drive through quaint country lanes will lead you to the Sands where the award winning Venus Cafe offers tasty beachside snacks so you can while away an entire day in the sunshine before heading back to the comfort of the Barn.
Just two miles from the front door is Dartmouth Golf and Country Club: a luxury spa and country club boasting an 18 hole championship golf course as well as a 9 hole course to challenge any golfer.
Slapton Ley Nature Reserve is South West England’s largest fresh water lake. Separated from the sea by the narrow shingle bar, Slapton Ley is every nature lover’s dream. The Ley is teeming with a huge variety of fauna and flora; it’s easy to spend a day uncovering all it offers.
South Devon is also home to several stunning National Trust Properties including the historic Greenway House; home of the much loved author Agatha Christie. Within a short drive you’ll also find the beautiful, atmospheric Compton Castle and the D'Oyly Carte family’s Coleton Fishacre with its 30 acre gardens and breathtaking sea views.
If you need a touch of civilisation, the Flavel Centre in Dartmouth is just the ticket. With an exciting year round programme of live performance, film and art, the Flavel is the perfect place to soak up a little culture before heading back to your country retreat.
Also nearby are the Devon cities of Plymouth and Exeter both of which invite you to make the most of your Westcountry break taking in our local hospitality. There's something for the whole family in Plymouth with its National Marine Aquarium and enormous Pavillions Leisure Centre with its year round ice rink and swimming pool. Why not round off your day visiting Plymouth Hoe where Francis Drake was rumoured to have played a final game of bowls before heading out to fight the Spanish Armada.
Exeter has a stunning cathedral and beautiful open spaces to enjoy year round. Get lost in its winding city centre streets or visit the new Princesshay shopping centre to make the most of its large chain stores and stylish boutiques.
Your whole family is sure to love relaxing indoors or exploring the gardens and orchards at Manning’s Cottage but when you’re ready to venture further afield there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.
Step back in time with a trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Combine your journey with a boat trip along the beautiful River Dart – a great way to explore the lovely South Hams.
Paignton Zoo is just a short journey away and boasts over 3000 breathtaking species of animals in five realistic habitats.
Outdoor adventure, falconry, wildlife sanctuary and indoor play areas are all available at Woodlands Adventure Park. A fun day out for the whole family.
Of course the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers plenty of free things to do whether hunting for fresh crabs down by the River Dart, exploring the superb woodland or romping across wild and wonderful Dartmoor.
South Devon is a food lovers’ heaven; bursting with fresh fish and delicious home grown produce at every turn. As well as award winning restaurants and seaside classics there are many fresh farmers' markets offering all kinds of gastronomic delights to tickle your tastebuds. Dartmouth Farmers' Market runs on the second Saturday of every month and the annual food festival is not to be missed. Visit the Sharpham vineyard to sample their great local wine and cheese, and walk amongst the vines nestling on the slopes of the River Dart.
