About this property

Thimblewynd: "best in Scotland with Hot Tub" (The Scotsman Newspaper)

Thimblewynd holiday rental has been described as one of the "best in Scotland with hot tub" (The Scotsman Newspaper).

Born in 1860, Thimblewynd is a C-Listed period cottage found in the historic village of Dunning, Perthshire. Thimblewynd has grown into a luxury romantic hideaway with plenty of benefits.

Secluded Hot tub experience? Yes. Log Burner? Yes. Gastropub on the corner? Yes. Village shop at the bottom of the street? Yes that as well.

We are chuffed to have Thimblewynd in our lives and are delighted to share it with you.

It's a place that just feels right and a huge investment has been taken to ensure it has everything a couple may need to enjoy a special time together (hot tub, log fire, smart tv, wifi, record player, board games...)

Reviews show that while guests enjoy a real sense of seclusion and getting away from it all, they also enjoy all the amenities of our village location. The local shop is incredibly well stocked and perfectly situated should you have forgotten to bring an everyday (or romantic) essential.

What is particularly unique is our secluded walled garden. In the sunshine you can enjoy the hammock and bbq. In Scotland we all know you can't guarantee the weather, so we have installed covered areas to let you enjoy the space no matter what. The funky Dutch Tub remains uncovered to let you star gaze together. It's pretty special. Hot water straight from an outdoor tap for an easy fill, then light the fire to keep the water warm. Toast marshmallows, sausages from the luxury of the tub......

Inside, it continues to be about luxury and being together. The kitchen is fully equipped. The living space is cosy and full of stuff to do. Wifi (obviously), board games, books, a vinyl record player with LPs (or bring your own) and Smart TV (easily link to your netflix or amazon prime account). The log burner is always a hit. Upstairs you find the large bedroom, with king-size brass bed, shuttered windows and a beautiful view. The ensuite bathroom includes a drench shower, towels, robes and organic bath products.

Disapointed
I want to firstly say that this property was as advertised, in a nice village and really pleasant to stay in and did have a hot tub (although it was old and in need of updating, a part of the filter was broken and kept floating about the tub for the 2hrs we spent in it). What let it down for us was that the hot tub stopped working on the first night of our 2 day stay. We had specifically booked Thimblewynd because it advertised a "secluded hot tub" so to have it break on the first night and have no hot tub for the next couple of days was really disappointing. Whilst these things happen, it appeared that the tub was at risk of breaking down after speaking with a source close to the host who came to check it for us on the second day. The host did not contact us after this to acknowledge the tub being broken and almost a week later have still had no contact from her even after going through the site and then directly messaging her. We both came home feeling really deflated and upset after spending around £500 for a break that we ultimately ended up not receiving. I would not recommend Thimblewynd due to the lack of communication from the host after a massive issue which abruptly ended our "secluded hot tub" break. A partial refund would be the correct thing to do here but again, the host has decided to ignore this situation.

Fantastic Location, quaint cosy cottage
Everything you need on your doorstep (pub + shop). Hot tub is wonderful. Cottage although modernised still retained it's aged and quaint feel. Great relaxing stay

The Thimblewynd Story.

Thimblewynd was created by Maggie and Adam as a space to relax and get away from it all. A space for a couple to be together.

As busy parents they didn't always fancy the formality of a hotel and found the average 'minimum 3 night stay policy' with a holiday-let too constraining (who has a babysitter that generous?)

Why they chose this property

The real magic of the place hasn't just been what has been added to Thimblewynd to get it right on the inside. It is also about what is to be found in Dunning itself. Step outside and you are moments away from beautiful walks, wild swimming, fields and forests full of nature (Thimblewynd even has a returning housemartin family that lives in the adjoining vennel).

The local pub on the corner (The Kirkstyle) is warm, inviting, does amazing food and live music. Another pub close by has regular open night jamming sessions.

And when you return at the end of an evening, find yourself stargazing from the hot tub, with a log fire waiting in the living room you'll probably think it's been time well spent.

And that should be the end of the story...

But it's not, in the morning when you wake, after a luxurious drench shower and perhaps another dip in the hot tub what could be better than the best all day breakfast waiting for you at the local golf club.

This, however, is just one story. Each guest at Thimblewynd will create their own....
