Big Island Vacation Rental (on The Island of Hawaii) at Punaluu Beach

This is a true one-bedroom unit, not a small studio unit that is (often) described as a one-bedroom unit.
This unit at Colony One, Sea Mountain, is a full one bedroom unit with a king-size bed in the bedroom on the lower level, and the living room, dining and kitchen on the upper level. There are great views of the sunrise from the lanai, from where you can also hear and watch the ocean. Punalu'u black sand beach is a 15-minute walk from the front door.

The living room contains a queen-size sleeper sofa that comfortably sleeps an additional two people. The room has a vaulted ceiling with a ceiling fan. It has a 37' flat-screen TV.

The fully-equipped and recently remodeled kitchen also contains a washer for your convenience. There is a drying rack which can be used within the condo, (NOT out on the lanai). The dryer is only for a very few small items. Coin operated facilities on site are for almost all loads.
Rentals are professionally handled through a local agent. Registration ID 206-919-2704-01. STVR number 19-369112. Check in is 3PM and Check out is 10AM

The location is rural and there is no significant public transportation or car service. We recommend obtaining a car to use for transportation.

Lovely EXCEPT the garbage pick-up at 3 AM 3 times was very very loud. The unit was charming and had lovely touches.. I live on Island was was here to be close to a spiritual retreat. Have stayed in many time shares and you could tell the carer that was taken in this one! Mahalo!

Easy home-base!

Was good location for our plans! Volcano park, South point and of course the black sand beach. Condo was well appointed, nice bed, very small ocean view but could hear the ocean on the balcony. Pool area was good too. No A/C was an adjustment, the unit did get stuffy on warm days, available fans were used for most of the stay. I think the owners recognized this and did make extra efforts to aid in this common situation. It is listed without A/C so there wasn’t any miscommunication, it was just a bigger adjustment than I expected. Thought that might be noteworthy for the next travelers. All in all our trip was great and the big island great fun! Thanks for sharing your unit!

You will not be disappointed!

Second time we have stayed in this condo complex. Although the golf course (between complex and ocean) is closed this time, you can still hear and see the Pacific. In addition this unit is at the back of the complex and there are units that the lanai looks over, the view is still relaxing and wonderful. Very clean, comfortable king bed, and stocked kitchen made for an enjoyable 8 night stay. Hosts are responsive and agreeable, and cannot say enough good things about Tiana on site - she is charming, conversant, and helpful. Loved it from retired couple traveling the world!

Great Condo

We are a hiking crew so being near the Volcano National Park allowed to get a couple of days of hiking there. Also Black Beach was 2 minutes away and it wasn't too far from Green Beach, also nice. We did have to drive a bit to get to Captain Cook to hike down to the memorial to snorkel but it was worth it. Tons of fish, lots of variety. The only negative is a lack of good grocery stores so load-up when you're in Kona or Hilo. Finally I thought to condo was a lot nicer in person than the pictures showed.

Spacious, clean condo near the black sand beach

The condo was spacious and clean with all the basic necessities and a nice view of the ocean. It is very close to the black sand beach and about 10 minutes away from the local town for coffee and amazing malasadas. Getting to Kona and Hilo was a longer trek (1 hour plus), but there is plenty of great scenery and stops along the way. The owner was very responsive to our questions and provided clear and helpful information.

It’s All About Relaxing

Very quiet and relaxing except that our unit was near the dumpsters and they were emptied every other night (which is a good thing)@1:30-2:00am.!! This was left out of the description. Nice view of the Pacific Ocean sunrise.

Amazing getaway

If you want a relaxing vacation, this is the place to be! Beautiful location next to the black sand beach. It feels like you are out in the middle of nowhere. We stopped at Walmart on our way in. Had picnics several times on the beach. It was so nice that the condo had beach chairs, umbrella and anything else you could think of. The pool was beautiful although we preferred to walk to the beach. Thank you so much!

Our Big Island Adventure

We absolutely loved our visit to the big island. Our accommodations were great. The owners have amenities such as beach gear and kitchen staples that are available. The only disadvantage to this property is its location being an hour away from any major town in either direction. Bring food! There are limited places to eat as well within a close driving distance. HOWEVER, the volcano park is fairly close, 30 minute ride and we visited several times including a night visit to see the active volcano. In order to circumnavigate the island, we made reservations for another hotel for one night in order to see the other sights in the northwest corner of the island. However, this place is a bargain compared to other places, well kept, and large enough for a couple to enjoy.

Nice unit but needs some attention.

This unit is definitely in a remote spot. Shower never got hot, emailed owner to be given a reason then see a review from last month of same problem which to me means, owner ignored it! Please don't see washer/dryer as a bonus, dryer doesn't dry so you are left with hanging clothes to dry all around (dryer vent is clogged). Unit needs some TLC.

Spacious, but not comfortable

The location seemed pretty good, but weather on this side is quite windy and rains a lot more. The place itself was nice and roomy, but the furniture in living room is more like outdoor patio furniture. Not comfortable at all. The shower gets just slightly warm, so you could not take a bath for sure. Lastly, the snorkel equipment provided are like toy quality (super hard plastic and not very practical for an adult for sure). Other places we stayed at had high quality snorkeling equipment. If you are going to stay at this resort, I would recommend finding another unit in this resort, as location is nice for day trips to north east side of island. And definitely make it into town for the donuts at the local bakery!

Nice, comfortable condo

It is a nice, comfortable place to stay. The balcony has an ocean view over the other buildings in the complex and is great to sit on in the morning. The couch folds out into a bed so even though the property has a single bedroom, the living-room/dining/kitchen area can be configured as a second bedroom overnight. The bathroom is well located so it can be used from both areas. The biggest thing that will determine if any unit in the complex is for you is location. Its a short walk from black sand beach, and a half hour drive from the volcano park. It does have a pool, hot tub and BBQs. And it is nice and quiet. A great place if you like nature and want a base for exploring the island. If you want restaurants, city activities and entertainment, and lots of nearby things to do, this is not the place for you. I have stayed in the complex before and was delighted to find this condo for this stay, so it really all depends on what you enjoy. Did have a couple of minor issues and the owner was easy to contact and responsive. The clothes dryer wasn't working but that was solved using a paid dryer in the complex laundromat. The washer is quite small so using the laundromat may be a good idea for larger amounts of laundry anyway. Also worth noting that fridge has a rather loud hum when the compressor is running that may be an issue for someone sleeping the in living-room (cant hear it from the bedroom). To sum it up - would we stay there next time? A definite yes!
