About Katrina Hackl
After a trip through Belize, we were immediately taken by the unparalleled beauty of the country and the the honest friendliness of the Belizean people - especially the locals we met while traveling through the village of Hopkins. It truly was an awe-inspiring experience that convinced us that this country was a place we wanted to be a part of.
Katrina Hackl purchased this House in 2015
Why Katrina Hackl chose Hopkins
The geographical diversity of Belize has to be seen to be believed. Full-on overgrown jungles, dry barren semi-arid areas, lagoons teeming with flora and fauna, white sand beaches, the largest network of underground caves in the world, and one of the top-ranked dive and snorkel reefs in the world. To have a home here, especially in one of the friendliest, most beautiful communities in the country, is a dream come true.

Everything about aMayanHeaven was perfect
Great beachfront house
The manager was very helpful and check in was smooth. The house is well outfitted, clean, and convenient. The value was excellent. Wish we had invited more people to stay with us to enjoy the property and the location.
Sunrises are amazing.
The huge rooftop patio is awesome for stargazing but too hot during the day.
We should have rented a car for excursions like the jaguar preserve or day trip to Placencia, but walking around the town was easy and safe.
Lots of quality restuarants nearby. Groceries were accessible and reasonable.
The weather was unreal. The beach at the house is clean and the water is shallow, safe and no seagrass.
Highly recommended of you are heading to Hopkins.
This is our 3rd time at this property. It has everything you could possibly want for a relaxing beach vacation. Plus we love the village of Hopkins and its friendly people and good restaurants
Wonderful stay at this beautiful home.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay for a week in this beautiful beach home, and wished we could have stayed longer. The house is lovely, tastefully decorated and comfortable fittings with all you could need. But the location itself was like a dream - so close to the sea - heaven, or a "Mayan Heaven" indeed! The property manager, Martin was so helpful and friendly too. We very much enjoyed our stay, it was our first visit to Belize and in some ways it was a bit of a culture shock...if you are an animal lover, be prepared to harden your heart a little as there are stray dogs everywhere and some of them look very sad. That really was the only downside though, the people and country are lovely and we are very glad we had the chance to experience it all.
Everything as promised and more! Our family had a wonderful time relaxing on the porch, playing in the sea, and cooking great meals at night. I read the other reviews and we experienced no problems with ants, water, or intrusive locals. We made memories and lifelong friends and you can be assured we will be back!
Hopkins is a Garifuna village on the coast of the Stann Creek District in Belize. Hopkins is considered by some Belizeans to be the cultural center of the Garifuna population in Belize. The town hosts its own national holiday, Hopkins Day, and welcomes people for their celebration on Garifuna Independence Day as well, they do this with drum ceremonies that can last till early hours in the morning.
The village is separated into two parts; the Northside (Baila) and the Southside (False Sittee). Hopkins is surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range inland, and the Caribbean Sea on its shore. The village was created in 1942 to replace the village of Newtown, which was devastated by a hurricane further up the coast.
Today Hopkins is a small but vibrant community of approximately 1,000 villagers. The people live mostly by farming and fishing, and more recently many have found work in the growing tourist industry. The residents are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, and welcome visitors to their village. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants and small bars. Hopkins was recently voted 'The Friendliest Village in Belize' by Belize First Magazine.
