About this property

Upper Castlewright Cottage - spectacular views, historic gateway to Wales

Dating back to the 16th century and maybe earlier, Upper Castlewright is perfect for a peaceful getaway in the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire hills. A former drovers' inn, the cottage oozes with character. It is situated at 1,175 ft on the single-track Kerry Ridgeway, an ancient drovers' road feeding through Wales and into Shropshire.

The cottage, accommodating up to 5 guests, has spectacular views over the hills. It is an ideal touring base for the Welsh Marches, the castles, mountains and coastline of mid and north Wales, and the historic towns of Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Bishops Castle. Just 500 yards from a beautiful section of the Offa's Dyke national footpath, it is also an ideal base for walkers.
