Azenha de São Mamede - Tranquility in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park

The Azenha de São Mamede is the result of the recovery of a water mill located in the Natural Park of the Serra de São Mamede. It is intended to accommodate those who want tranquility and communion with Nature. In addition to several places of interest nearby (Portalegre, Marvão, Castelo de Vide, ..) is the ideal space to start hiking and enjoy peace and quiet throughout the property. If you wish to take advantage of your stay, you can make some of the routes proposed in the information provided in the accommodation.
The property allows the isolation since it is not next to other dwellings; around the property there are other houses that are 200m, 350m and 550m away from the Azenha de São Mamede. The accesses are good; from the paved road to the Azenha there is a dirt track with about 200m.
During summer, apart from the pleasure you can enjoy by being by a stream, a removable swimming pool of about 4mX2mx1,20m is installed.
In the area where the house is located, the mobile network available is Vodafone, with a 100% signal; if you are a foreign traveler you should check if your operator is a Vodafone network partner. The two other larger networks in Portugal, MEO and NOS have no signal in the area.

Peace and quiet in nature

Lovely converted watermill, with a working history. Complete privacy in a nature park but still fairly close to Portalegre for services. Nice terraces, a mini swimming pool for cooling down and a refreshing stream. The owners are very welcoming.

The best I've ever rented

This place was incredible from every perspective. First of all Jose and his wife were generous, kind and thoughtful from booking right to meeting us (late at night) at the house and showing us around. The wine, beer and cookies were a lovely extra touch. The house was perfection. Cozy, comfortable, modern renovation but maintained all of its old charm. Beds we're comfortable, and a clothes rack provided for each of us. We felt like we were waking up in paradise every morning.

An Idyllic Place!

Jose and Clara were consummate hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble. The azenha was a home from home, comfortable and with everything one could need. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by trees and with streams flowing past the mill, on the smaller of which Jose has constructed an island of cemented stones, reached by a small wooden bridge. Watching the dragonflies and damselflies hawking up and down the stream was a delight, as were the clouds of white butterflies, including the handsome Iberian Marbled White. There are numerous tracks through the forests, some of which are signposted hiking trails. There are very large supermarkets in Portalegre, but we tended to use Pingo Doce in Castelo de Vide, which is our favourite Portuguese town! The mill (azenha) has been beautifully renovated and has all mod. cons. The bed is comfortable and there is a more than adequate supply of towels and high quality bed linen. If you love nature, it is paradise. On the first morning, at about 09:00, I stepped out onto the patio outside the front door and a pine marten trotted along the length of the dwarf wall which encloses the patio. We stayed for four weeks and were reluctant to leave, but I have my 1,500 photographs! Thank you Clara and Jose.

Tranquilidade e conforto no meio da natureza

Para mim esta propriedade é a definição perfeita de casa no campo, um pequeno paraíso na Serra de São Mamede, num vale junto à ribeira de Arronches. Bastante isolado para termos a tranquilidade e o descanso que procurávamos, só se ouvem e vêem os bichos da natureza circundante. A casa é muito acolhedora e está completamente equipada, tem tudo o que é necessário para uma estadia tranquila e sem privações. A localização permite chegar de forma fácil de carro a outros pontos de interesse (Marvão, Castelo de Vide, Portalegre) e tem muitas trilhas que fizemos a pé na área em redor. O José e a Clara são uns anfitriões muito prestáveis e simpáticos.

Sítio idílico

A propriedade é muito bonita. A casa está equipada e decorada com muito gosto. Os anfitriões são muito simpáticos e acolhedores! Gostámos muito dos presentes de boas-vindas :) Recomendo! O único alerta que coloco a outros turistas que não conhecem a zona é que as estradas naquela parte do Parque Natural de São Mamede são estreitas!

As estradas são estreitas e é preciso conduzir com cuidado; são vias da responsabilidade da Câmara Municipal e por esse motivo por vezes não são consideradas alternativas nos sistemas GPS. Fantástico

Era justo lo que queríamos, un lugar tranquilo, fresco y un montón de actividades para hacer en plena naturaleza. El arroyo que pasa junto a la casa ha sido el lugar de juegos de nuestros hijos junto con la piscina. La casa es preciosa, muy cuidada y tiene todo lo que puedas necesitar. José fue muy atento, incluso se acercó a recogernos para que no tuviéramos problemas para llegar a la casa. En resumen, un lugar idílico al que estamos deseando volver.

Romantische Idylle in der Natur

Leider waren wir nur drei Nächte an diesem schönen Ort, gerne wären wir noch geblieben. Man kann hier wunderbar wandern oder einfach nur den Garten mit Bach genießen oder grillen fernab von jeglicher Zivilisation und manchmal auch vom Handyempfang. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett, das Haus ist gemütlich eingerichtet und sauber. Es gab alles, was man braucht. Kaffee gibt es aus der Kapselmaschine wie in vielen anderen Häusern in Portugal auch, allerdings sind hier schon die Kapseln bereitgestellt. Wir würden das Haus jederzeit weiterempfehlen. Einziges kleines Manko ist der schwache Wasserstrahl in der Dusche.

Belle demeure et belle localisation

Nous avons été agréablement surpris par la maison. Elle est située dans un environnement très arboré,avec un ruisseau qui apporte de la fraîcheur en plein été et une source d'eau naturel où l'on peut se désaltérer. La maison a été réhabilité et décoré avec gout, les pièces sont toutes accueillantes. On a passé un superbe séjour ! on remercie José et Clara pour leur chaleureux accueil. On recommande vivement !

Absolute Ruhe, tolles Haus mit Pool und zwei Terrassen

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt. Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet und hst einen Pool auf der Terasse. Hinter dem Haus fließt ein kleiner Bach. Perfekt für eine Auszeit...kein Handyempfang und kein Internet. Ca. 20 Minuten von Portalegre mit entsprechenden Einkaufsmöglichkeiten entfernt. Die Gastgeber waren sehr sympathisch. Wir hatten mit unseren Kindern eine tolle Zeit.

Estadia repousante na Azenha de São Mamede

Excelente sítio para descansar e ficar isolado do bulício da cidade. Ar puro e fresco. Casa com todas as comodidades para passar uns dias para recuperar energias. Gostamos especialmente da cama, óptima para dormir como um bebé. O exterior é muito agradável, com o ribeiro mesmo ao pé, e frondosas árvores de todo o tipo e por todo o lado. Apesar de isolada, fica muito perto de Portalegre e de Alegrete, que vale a pena visitar. Uma palavra para os donos da Azenha que foram muito simpáticos, e que tiveram a amabilidade de esperar por nós no primeiro dia, em que já chegamos um pouco fora de horas. Conclusão: Esplendidos dias passados na Azenha, a repetir com certeza. Obrigado Paulo e Graça
