About this property

Characterful 5 bedroom, spacious and light coastal house in Marloes, Pembs

A characterful, spacious, comfortable and light four bedroom house and a one bedroom attached annexe flat, with separate entrance and patio, located in the peaceful village of Marloes, close to Skomer island and within minutes of Marloes Sands and Musslewick, just two of the stunning beaches on the magnificent Pembrokeshire coast. Whilst the two can be rented separately, renting them together suits large parties or families spanning the generations and in high season they are only rented together.

The house is surrounded to the rear and side by beautiful mature and secluded gardens. The downstairs is a large open plan area. A huge kitchen leads into a sun room with part glass roof and large sliding door opening onto patio area. This room has a sofa, two leather chairs and a couple of leather Turkish style bean bags. Down a step through a wide opening is the inner ‘snug’, with wood burning stove, two comfy sofas, shelving area housing TV, video and music system. A double sided thick velvet curtain can be drawn across to separate the two rooms to give that extra cosy feel to the snug, or when open, it is just one great space.

The kitchen is large and well appointed. The solid oak table, when fitted with extra leaves, comfortably seats fourteen. It has a beautiful waxed terracotta tiled floor and is fitted with a Raeburn oven (great for roasts), electric oven, gas hob with wok attachment, fridge freezer and dishwasher.

Off the kitchen is a utility / shower room. A walk in shower – ideal for use after the beach, and large enough for little ones to share. The utility room is equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, Belfast sink, wooden draining board and pulley clothes horse suspended from ceiling (good for drying out walking and beach gear). The large hall area has extensive hanging space for coats, an upright piano and shelving with a variety of books. There is also a downstairs toilet.

The upstairs is L shaped and houses four bedrooms: two are very large, each with king beds, bedroom three is a small double and bedroom four is a double bedroom with one double bed and two singles, ideal as a children's room. All rooms have shutters or venetian blinds in addition to black-out blinds. In the main bathroom, the bath has telephone style taps and shower unit, sink and toilet. In addition there is a separate shower . Off the landing is a large airing cupboard, ideal for airing any damp clothing and towels.

Formerly the original old post office, the annexe is a spacious and characterful one bedroomed flat furnished to a high standard with wood flooring, central heating, wood burning stove and roll top bath tub for added comfort after a day's walk. The open-plan sitting room and dining area is furnished with two sofas (one a pull-out bed) and wood burning stove. The sitting room opens into a small dining area with drop leaf table and chairs. Two steps lead down to the terracotta tiled galley style kitchen which overlooks the patio. Utilities include a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and integrated washer/dryer. A breakfast bar and two high chairs provide an alternative eating area. The bathroom is fitted with a Victorian style bathtub, with telephone style shower head.

The solar panels are really effective and provide the bulk of hot water in the house throughout most of the year, central heating can be turned on when the weather is not obliging. A number of roof lights allow sunshine to stream into the upstairs area of the house, down the stairs and, via a glass ceiling, into the downstairs hall, making this a bright and airy home. The Old Post Office is an interesting mix of contemporary and traditional cottage style and has been renovated to bring together the best of both and to provide a characterful home as opposed to a holiday let. When not there, the house and guests are looked after by my housekeeper, should the need arise, if not you have total privacy.

A beautiful part of the world

'The Old Post Office' was the perfect place for our family reunion. After about a fifteen year break since we spent many happy years in this area when our four children were younger, we all came back together this time with a son-in-law and three lovely grandchildren. The property was just what we needed with the annex to acommodate all ten of us. Even on the one rainy morning we enjoyed playing games, watching a dvd and listening to music. The 'new' post office and general store nearby was very handy for essentials and an even nearer pizzareare (open for three evenings a week) was a welcome take away for us one evening. The nearby beaches were perfect, (keep an eye on the tide times) and our visit to Skomer island was one of the highlights of our stay. All in all one of our best holidays for years with many happy memories.
