About this property

Nestled amid the rolling hills and peaceful tranquility of the countryside

The Farm House is nestled in a peaceful valley with a long driveway, miles away from the busyness of everyday life. With 4 bedrooms (2 queen and 3 full beds) we can accommodate large groups in this country home of yesteryear. All linens, towels, soap are provided. The house is set up to settle in for weekend stay or longer. Except for providing your own food the house is fully equipped with everything you need. There is also a washer & dryer. Originally built in the late 1800's little has changed in the house since it was remodeled in 1933. Original woodwork, hardwood floors, French doors, glass door knobs, and a coziness about it that invites rest and relaxation.House has recently been updated with new siding and windows. Country charm and warmth in every room. You're invited to hike during your stay on our 700 acre working dairy/crop farm. In the evening relax around a campfire (firewood provided). Dine out at the unique restaurants in New Glarus or use the Farm House kitchen or gas grill. Reconnect with family, friends and nature. You are also invited to visit our dairy farm if desired which is located 3 miles by car or 1/2 mile walking through the property. We look forward to having you stay. We are sorry to say that we will be retiring our farmhouse as a vacation house at the end of October 2023. Our son and his family who farm with us will be calling the the farmhouse their home. We have loved all the wonderful families who have stayed here in the 17 years we rented the house out. Thank you to all our wonderful guests who have made this a great experience.

Our first real vacation
We needed someplace to stay while we were in town for a wedding and knew it would be more cost effective to rent a house, rather than dealing with hotel rooms. The kids loved having games available and space to be outside playing, plus we were able to invite other family members to come out and visit and get some really good quality time with them. The rooms were beautiful and the beds were comfortable, and we couldn't have asked for better weather or location while we were there.

Peaceful Family Escape
Three generations gathered for a weekend of relaxing and outdoor play. The roomy bedrooms allowed for each family to have space. The children enjoyed the playroom, and all gathered around the large table for meals and games. Much of our time was spent outdoors exploring the property, sledding, making snowmen, and enjoying campfires. We love the history of this house and property. Maintaining this home is a labor of love from the home owners. Thank you!

Our family purchased the Farm House in 1992 along with 180 acres. The 180 acres connects with the remainder of our dairy/crop farm. We milk a herd of 75 registered Guernsey cows on the home farm. Our farm is totally family operated. We converted the farmhouse into a vacation house to share especially with city folks who don't get the opportunity to enjoy the countryside. We also wanted families to understand our farming life style. We moved to New Glarus in 1980 when we brought our herd of 45 cows to our original farm of 350 acres. Since then we were able to add acreage from this property as well as some other adjoining acreage so our farm now totals 700 acres. We have raised 7 children on the farm who are now all grown. Several of them along with grandchildren are still involved on the farm in different capacities. We enjoy getting to know our guests and sharing farming background with them.

Why they chose this property

Guests have shared with us that they are so amazed with the peacefulness and beauty of the area. You will feel you are a world away from everything yet so close to the Village of New Glarus which in itself is an amazing place to visit. Settled by Swiss immigrants it a tourist town that shares their Swiss heritage. Within a short distance is must stop - The New Glarus Brewery and Bailey's Run Winery are great spots to take in. Sugar River Bike Trail, New Glarus State Park for those that want to enjoy the outdoors whether biking or hiking. as well as Yellow Stone Park are close.

What makes this property unique

Located down a long driveway and nestled in a valley you will feel you are a world away from everything. The peacefulness is amazing. There is something about the farmhouse that takes you to another place when life was slower and time stands still. Take in the countryside and breathe.
