We had a great time at this condo! Check in was easy, the location was great, and we had everything we needed. We've stayed there twice now and already have our third trip planned.

Incredible Thanksgiving Weekend!

Our family had an incredible Thanksgiving Weekend at Bear Lake Reserve! We chose this condo due to its close proximity to WCU, since our son attends school there. The condo had everything we needed to make our Thanksgiving meal, and enough room at the dining table for two of his friends to join us for dinner. The property was beautiful, and so peaceful that we didn’t even realize we had neighbors. Being located near the Lake Club made it easier to enjoy the activities they had scheduled all weekend long. My favorite part was the lack of cell service, so my phone never even rang. My husband and kids connected to the condo’s WiFi and they were able to stream their shows and do homework without any interruptions. The owner was easily accessible through text message or email, and ready to answer any question we asked. I would fully recommend this vacation rental to anyone whether you want to enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer or stay to yourself. Our family did a little of both and we are forever grateful for the hospitality we were shown and all the memories we made!

Beautiful Condo with Convenient Location

We’ve been renting this condo for several years. It’s pet friendly, convenient to the pool and lodge, and overall a wonderful stay. Host/Property manager are exceptional. We look forward to our visits twice a year. The property is like paradise with few crowds and the most beautiful lake and golf course in the Carolina mountains. 5 star stay.

We had a wonderful stay but would recomend a few things

We had 3 generations from 17 yrs to 77 years together to celebrate Christmas, and had a wonderful visit... The travel through BLR was long and winding as promised and I would recommend arriving in the daylight for that reason. The kitchen was fully stocked and the space was sufficient for our size group (6). House was overall clean. I would recommend better lighting inside and out. It is very low light and difficult to see curbs and steps. We had the fire alarm go off for no reason and and several power outages. That was no ones error just poor timing. But it would have been nice to have the owners contact info to assist with that. And one towel the should have been taken out of circulation before our visit. But other than those small things we had a great time and would highly recommend! We also had a sweet visit with the otter that lives in the fising pond!

Bear Lake

This place needs a complete update. The heating/cooling is impossible and VERY loud. First 2 days were spent without phone, wifi, internet, text, or email capabilities. Property manager tried to say it was an outtage, however all tenants around us had theirs. The soap dispensers pumped rusty old black soap that hadn’t been checked/cleaned in ages. There is an electric fireplace that doesn’t seem to emit any heat and sounds like a swarm of bees buzzing. This is definitely not 3 bedroom as a bed lofted over the family room has no privacy or noise protection. On our 1st night, there was NOT AN OUNCE of soap, shampoo, etc to use until we could purchase some locally (which is a 35 minute treacherous ride down the mountain). While we met lovely people at the Lake House restaurant, facilities, etc, we won’t be back to this outdated and less than clean unit.

Not what was advertised

After a 10 hour drive to get to what we had chosen for our vacation- a water view unit at Bear Lake Reserve we were amazed to find out there was actually NO WATER VIEW at all. Secondly the listing states 2 bedroom and a loft. Sadly the 2nd bedroom is also upstairs which should be noted by the host. After several conversations with the property manager and us explaining that there is no Waterview at this property I was told multiple times the ad never states that however it did until we complained and then they updated it to say there is water views during the “winter months”. Needless to say, my husband and I were very disappointed and ended our vacation short. We were only credited one night not the two nights we deserved. Very disappointed with this experience and as seasoned travelers, and VRBO guests this host experience was absolutely the worst.

Fantastic Mountain Condo

We loved our week away in the mountains! The condo was exactly as described and was perfect for my wife and I, three adult children, and one puppy. We loved the fireplace and the view! Bear Lake Reserve is exceptional and beautiful too. We hiked, played pickle ball and ate some very nice meals at the Lake Club. As described by others, grocery shop before you arrive as it's about 30 minutes or more to a store of any kind. Once you enter the gate of the Reserve its another 5 miles to the condo and this will take over 20 minutes because of the very curvy and steep roads. I highly recommend arriving in the daytime. We visited the Highlands community one day and returned after dark. It was very difficult to see the road. Beyond that, we had an incredible time and plan on returning in the summer or fall so we can play some golf and swim in the lake and pool. We highly recommend this condo and Bear Lake Reserve.

First Vacay as Empty Nesters

Bear Lake Reserve is our favorite resort in the Carolinas. This was our second visit. We loved the close proximity of this condo to the clubhouse. The 5 mile journey along the steep, twisty, narrow mountain road (devoid of guardrails) can be a bit daunting, especially at night. Staying closer to the lodge meant less driving in and out … a definite plus! The staff, grounds and food were top notch. Kayaking, boating, swimming and saunas were a daily routine. The mountain beauty was zen like and exquisite. Nothing compares to the views surrounding this pristine mountain lake …. except perhaps the pastries. As a former tv producer for Food Network, my palate is picky. Ordinarily, compliments on cuisine are few and far between. Having tasted some of the best foods in the world during my career, I can honestly say that Pastry Chef “G’s” blueberry muffins were in fact the best I’ve ever had … anywhere! And I know my blueberry muffins! But, all things considered, perhaps the most impressive moment occurred just as we entered the condo at the very beginning of our stay. There on the wall, cast off in the corner, was an out of place painting that did not fit the well appointed mountain decor. Upon closer examination, we realized that It was an image of the Coney Island Wonder Wheel in NYC.. We couldn’t believe it! Coney Island was where we had our first date twenty three years ago. Here we were on our first vacation as empty nesters after 2 kids and more than 2 decades of marriage. and there on the wall was a reminder of where it all began. It was a sign. Bear Lake is indeed magical. We intend to one day call it our second home.

Dreamy!

We loved everything about staying at Bear Lake and plan to return! We chose this villa due to the proximity to the Lake Club, as it was incredibly convenient being less than a 5-minute drive away. Take some time to chat with the employees at the Lake Club - they are incredible! In addition, there's something for everyone, whether you enjoy lake activities, swimming, hiking, golfing, etc. Our experience was so dreamy and relaxing. Note: I do recommend picking up groceries/necessities before you get out to the property, because once you're there, you won't want to leave. The drive from the main road to the villa is ~25 minutes of 17-mph winding roads and is another ~15 mins from the main road to Sylva.

Condo stay at Bear Lake Reserve

Beautiful, spacious condo a short drive from the lake house where swimming pool, hot tubs, gym, and lake access with sandy beach are located. You can also walk there but it a strenuous hike through the woods. The major downside is the remote location…45 minutes at least to the closest grocery store. The only restaurant at the resort is a bit pricey with only average food. Our condo was a 4.5 mile drive from the entry gate on a winding mountain road.

Wonderful Villa for a Wonderful Vacation!

The owner was excellent to communicate with and she was very accommodating. The villa is an easy 10-15 minute walk to the Lake Club and all of it's fabulous amenities. We came with 4 teenagers and they were absolutely delighted by the 2 pools and hot tubs, beach complete with Spike Ball, gym, bar/cafe, and pool table. The home was furnished just as pictured and the beds were all comfortable. The kitchen was also well stocked. If you are looking for a great get away to a gorgeous lake and do as little driving as possible (we never left the property the whole week) - this is the place to stay.

We always love bear lake

This is the 6th summer we’ve visited and even stayed for a whole summer before, so to say we love bear lake is an understatement. We always prefer the condos because of proximity to the lake club. This condo was clean, well taken care of & cozy. The only call out I want to make (because I missed it) is the condo is listed on VRBO as a 3 bedroom, but it’s actually a 2 bedroom with an open loft furnished like a bedroom. We sorta made it work, but it wasn’t preferable and didn’t give much privacy for my MIL who ended up having n the loft. I’d definitely stay here again if I was just looking for a 2 bedroom. We loved it! Easy check in & check out & has everything we needed!
