About this property

Pet-friendly Old Florida Cottage on the Forgotten Coast

Experience old Florida! Minutes to Indian Pass and St. Joseph Bay State Park, and less than half an hour to historic Apalachicola. Located in the heart of town, but still on a quiet residential street, our cottage is a welcome alternative to the condo scene of Panama City Beach. From our fully renovated 1920s cottage, less than a block from St. Joseph Bay, you have access to everything Port St. Joe and surrounding communities have to offer. Walk to the shops and restaurants on Reid Street, two blocks away, ride a bike on the city trails, paddle your kayak in the shallow, fish-filled waters at the end of the street, launch your boat from the public marina less than two blocks away, fish the surf or the mouth of the Intracoastal Waterway, swim and sunbathe on St. Joe Beach, or just kick back and relax.

Our spacious home has three bedrooms, a den, a sunroom/playroom, a screened porch with a fan and wicker chairs, a covered patio and ample off-street parking, including space for a boat. We offer you comfortable furniture and beds, wood floors, tall windows, a washer and dryer , and a utility room to store your gear. There is a king size bed in the master, and a queen and full bed in the second and third bedrooms. The sofa in the den pulls out if you need extra space. The newly renovated eat-in kitchen, while simple, is fully equipped for your convenience, and features a GE Profile gas stove with an electric convection oven. The den and bedroom both have 47-inch smart TV for viewing movies, and high speed internet is available throughout the house. Central air conditioning ensures your comfort on the hottest days, and on-demand hot water means no waiting for showers. Bathrooms were newly renovated in 2017, with a tub-shower combination in the main and a walk-in shower in the second bathroom. On-demand hot water ensures that everyone can shower without waiting. On the back patio you will find a table with seating for 6.

The home is located on a quiet residential street, despite its proximity to downtown and the Bay. This is a perfect vacation home for friends or families, but we ask that you respect our neighbors and pass us by if you are looking to throw loud night time parties.

About the host

Host profile image
Like many people, I always imagined Florida was nothing but condos and retirement communities. In 2010, I came to a training in the Florida Panhandle and discovered the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Forgotten Coast. My partner and I bought this house as a winter getaway, and have spent winters here since 2015, fishing, kayaking, and enjoying the friendly community. During the summer, we're back in Montana, where I work as a biologist in the Rocky Mountains.

Why they chose this property

We picked this house because of its location, less than a block from the Bay, because of its traditional charm, and because of the laid-back neighborhood. Even in the height of summer, this is far from party central; the house is part of a residential neighborhood, where the cool Bay breezes make year-round living enjoyable. Everything about the house and the street invites relaxation.
