Abbey House by Group Retreats

Abbey House looks out towards Audley End House, a 17th Century Jacobean mansion, widely regarded as one of the finest country houses in England. This stunning location is available to hire exclusively for family get togethers, celebrations, corporate entertaining, or team building exercises. There are plenty of spaces here to play, party or just be together, and smaller spaces to break out, read and unwind.

The property is approached from a private drive and has parking for between 8-10 cars. The house is entered through the impressive entrance hall.

The house has a grand dining room, that has views across the gardens and an open fireplace. There is a fully equipped kitchen for all your catering needs. Whether you choose to cook a family meal or bring in a professional chef, you can dine like Lords and Ladies of the Manor.

Abbey House has nine beautifully furnished bedrooms to choose from, four ensuites, and there are two further bathrooms and a downstairs loo. All linen is provided.

There is another sitting room ideal for relaxing or entertaining. The library has comfortable seating, a log burner and books for anyone in the family that would like to enjoy some peace and quiet. We have a games room with a poker table and a separate TV room ideal for the family. We have a den in the loft complete with sofa bed and playstation.

With a swimming pool and great landscaped gardens and grounds to explore, there’s plenty to keep children occupied. The pool is heated from April to October and the pool house has a bar area and barbecue ideal for summer bookings. There is a covered winter garden where you can play table tennis.

Walkers and cyclists can enjoy a wide variety of footpaths and trails. This house is a superb base for discovering the stunning countryside that is all around or for experiencing the medieval market town of Saffron Walden. You’ll find many fantastic pubs and restaurants here.

Take the kids to Audley End Miniature Railway where they can ride mini steam engines. Alternatively, take a look around the breath-taking Audley End House or spend a day at Saffron Walden Golf Club. Cambridge is only a short drive away where you can go punting on the river or enjoy a night out.

Whatever you choose to do with your time, you will have a fantastic stay at Abbey House.

• Please observe and adhere to all speed limits on the driveways.
• Please do not enter the working farms. This is for your own safety as the farmers could be shooting.
• When on our walking routes, please close all gates and keep any dogs on leads.
• Please adhere to all signage with regards to parking. Do not park anywhere which may cause a nuisance to our neighbours.
• Noise. Please respect our neighbours, in particular, with regards to noise – consider children’s bedtimes. Your gathering must be brought inside by 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends to control noise.
• The pools and hot tubs may be check during your stay by the caretaker. Please be aware that he may be on the premises for this and for other maintenance purposes.
• The pool cover is not a safety cover and must be removed fully before swimming. It will not support your weight.
• Children must not be allowed to enter the pool area unsupervised.
• Please do not swim in the lakes.
• Please ensure to use the designated smoking areas only.
• Only wood is to be burned in our fires and these must be extinguished if left or when you go to bed.
• Children must be supervised at all times.
• Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the hot tub.
• The hot tub must be filled with water at all times. If the water level falls below the top water jets it must be refilled immediately.
• If the pool or hot tub water is not completely clear it must not be used. Please inform us immediately if this happens.
• No glass to be taken to the pool or hot tub.
• If bringing dogs with you, please ensure to keep them under control and away from any livestock.
• Do not use any glitter or confetti. No decorations are to be sellotaped, pinned or blue tacked to the walls or doors.
• We do not allow fireworks, external speakers, DJ’s, marquees, or day guests exceeding the maximum number of guests at the property.
• Noise must be kept to a reasonable level at all times. If playing music indoors during the evenings, please ensure to keep any windows closed.
When You Leave
• The house must be vacated by 11am at the latest.
• All rubbish must be removed from the house and gardens, and placed in the correct bins outside.
• All washing up must be done or loaded into the dishwasher.
• All unused food is to be thrown away or taken with you.
• All furniture and items must be returned to where they came from.
Failure to observe the above rules may result in loss of damage deposit.
