About this property

Walk to the ocean, very private. Secluded, woodsy location.

We are a cozy studio in a unique setting. There is a babbling brook that runs through the property to the ocean. This was a granite-quarrying site many years ago, and the property retains the remnants of a granite road used by ox carts to move granite blocks to the schooners. There is wild life on occasion, we recently had a great blue heron for several days. State park on the ocean is a 20 min walk.

The only challenging thing was the weather! Phil was a fine host; the location is lovely. It is not at all accessible, so keep that in mind. We were in Gloucester to explore the outdoors, and Phil had a well-stocked 'things to do' binder, which we used.

I had a great stay :) Phil was very welcoming, friendly and hospitable. Took some great walks and had a nice meditation spot by the creek. Despite owners being on the property, I never saw them unless I needed something. They made it feel very private and that was very appreciated.

The hosts communication was wonderful. Directions were great. It is definitely a rural area which is appx. 20-30 minutes from Gloucester. The host lives there, which is no big deal except parking was horrible. He didn’t accommodate us at all. We had to walk down a grassy hill to get to the apartment, which was difficult for me with a walker. The kitchen isn’t really usable due to the size. There is a support beam in the middle of the walkway. The bathroom door didn’t shut and the toilet was so close to the sink my knees hit. The bedroom area was very nice and he had heavy comforters for people like me that are cold all the time. The windows did not lock nor the sliding glass door. We are from ny so we lock things lol. The pictures you see of the rocks with words on them are not visible. The yard would have been great if it were maintained. No babbling book either. There were, however, two chairs outside to sit in. That was enjoyable and it was definitely quiet. Overall, I would not recommend this property. I’m f course you may feel differently if you want to give it a whirl.

We honestly can't put into words what an absolute RESPITE this beautiful place is! It was scrupulously clean, provides what you need, (the water pressure in the shower is amazing) and the setting is a tranquil "Shire" type setting that is a joy to just look at or photograph. The host, Phil, is friendly, kind and so interesting! Close proximity to all we wanted to see and do. We definitely will be returning!
